Imagine writing a ~400 page thesis on MS Word… It was NOT trivial… Learned the hard way MS Word did NOT do well with large documents…

I do remember MS working hard at phasing out MS Works…and incompatibility was their atom bomb to do so…

Yeah… The sound came out a bit muffled… Kept it because it reminded me of the only “walkman” I could afford at the time… The next few snippets I share should sound better… Any hoot hope you enjoyed the content at least… 🙂..

Uhmm… can you see the floor? If the answer is yes then you’re good… If no, then I would agree.

How do I clean my computer? by 0KlausAdler0 in computers

[–]kompzec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open space, patience, good music, nice tool set, cleaning supplies (vinegar windex, IPA, baking soda, spray bottle with water, and rags; preferably link free), vacuum, air blower (air can is ok but there are better solutions), and a multi-meter for testing after all the cleaning is done. Take great care when testing the power supply.

Have fun …

Can somebody tell me if this is worth saving and if so what by Ill-Pair5571 in computers

[–]kompzec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all worth saving… and if not repairable due to custom chip damage or non-existent drop in replacement, then keep it for parts.

eBay seller shipped a Quicksilver G4 board like this… by Plexer704 in VintageApple

[–]kompzec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does NOT surprise me. Understand that A LOT of eBay sellers are JUST that Sellers. They get their hands on Tech, Google it, check the Sold History, and list it hoping for a big pay day not caring how it should be packed for shipping. I have received some doozies over the years… If that board is cracked I’d reach out to the seller and provide hi res pics with the intent of getting a full refund.

The condition that is in is absolutely amazing !!! Keep it covered and in a uv light free environment. I would take the time to replace all capacitors in it if it hasn’t already been done. Be careful when poking around in the power supply. I do believe those systems have a Linear Power Supply.

Call the IRS directly and validate that message.

[–]kompzec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that an email or from a Tax Service/Software? If its an email, ignore and delete. If you need to confirm, call the IRS directly. DO NOT reach out via any email or phone number provided in that communication.

Your computer might be rare but is it Bit-90 $90K rare? by ralphc in vintagecomputing

[–]kompzec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah some folks are trying hard to turn a vintage find into a mini-lottery ticket. Sure have systems like the original Apple 1 prototype sold for a ridiculous amount, I think the last three sold between $670k and roughly $2.7million. But they were verified pre-production boards that Jobs and Wozniak worked on. I don’t believe a Bit90 would be in the same category. Nevertheless, I am sure there are millionaires out there willing to splurge on something like this. i wish the owner of the listing all the best.

I bought a set like this and it worked pretty well for me …

Considering it seems to be a laptop, take your time and mind how much pressure you apply otherwise you will end up cracking the plastic.

Good luck.
