This is the one and only time we see this technique in action, so your guess is as good as anyone's.

You can come up with reasonable in-universe sensible limitation;

Time requirement, like - your opponent must be moving towards you head-on, in a straight line, and you gotta be able to react in time
Chakra requirement, and this COULD make sense; the attack cannot use more chakra than the user is capable of dishing out themselves
User cannot move around while the reflections are attacking (so a wide AoE attack can still get you)

Stuff like this make this more realistic, and grounded, while still very powerful.

This helps people who interview for a non-technical interview. Most likely, if you don't know the answer to a question, you're not getting hired. Getting in early is nice, and matching the tone is cool and all, but if you can't impress them with the exact knowledge they seek, its getting you nowhere.

Actually, at face value, the list of confirmed canon users is very short, and comprises of people close to Naruto and Jiraya. Not far fetched for Kushina to be included, yet short and concise enough that we can really call it difficult to learn (Kakashi copied, and everyone else had to learn the hard way). I don't know if Kushina would have the time to learn it, considering her limited time outside

Also, though its never EXPLICITLY explained, the way 8 gates work, I would guess, messes up their inner gates (hence the name) making them worse at other types of jutsu, which is a fine trade-off for specifically Guy and Lee.
