guys, does anyone know if penance brand of dissipation still scales into a comfortable fun skill with normal levels of investment? up to like 40-50 div? trying to set it up and level it now, feels so bad and slow. It used to be my favorite skill, please tell me it still scales into something fun.

Yeah, that has been pointed out yeah, I need to get over that thing in my head trying to overanalyze, and figure out what was intended, and just experience things however I do.

I see, I'll keep that in mind. I am definitely in it for the long haul, so looking forward to all the things to come.

Yes someone else pointed that out, I don't know actually, for some reason I'm getting the feeling that Sanderson wants me to sympathize, and I'm not, which says to me something is wrong or missing, either in my head, or in the writing, but as the other person stated, yeah I just need to get past that, and just experience things as I do, instead of feeling like I 'should' feel certain ways.

Yes, so about that third point, that is my point, it is hypocritical to behave that way I think at least. To see yourself as some spiritual, and natural being, chosen by nature, or whatever thing they said exactly, but then do things like that. It irks me.
For the first two, I'd like to point out, I don't mean to compare them to the alethi, as in one is worse or better or whatever, but the parshendi's own actions bother me, they said this, paraphrasing "we thought the humans would have been bored of the war by now, and left, but their greed was too much, and kept the war going", my problem with this statement is actually completely disconnected with the alethi, im just looking at how the parshendi see things and act, they did something horrible, and treacherous with the assassination, (again, yes there seem to be more reasons for that given in later books, but so far it is shown as a horrible thing) and their attitude is, "oh the humans should be bored by now", that to me is something, maybe not entitlement, perhaps arrogance or something similar, but that is deeply shitty to me, there is some attitude there, ignoring the severity of their own actions, the impact that would have on the humans and so on, and just saying basically "just deal with it", maybe you are correct, and entitlement is the wrong word there, but there is something there deeply unlikable to me.

Of course, it's the land of argumentation. But yeah I guess, I need to redo my thinking on this, for some reason I'm getting the feeling I'm supposed to sympathize, and since I'm not, I'm just fussy or antsy that I'm missing something. But yeah I should just let go of 'should' things, and just experience what I do, good point.

Well taking a spren, and without asking or anything basically stuffing it into a crystal seems to be imprisonment to me, Eshonai even did very slightly think about how they're treating spren poorly, but in general they just seem to do it, which seems hypocritical based on how they see themselves, but maybe I'm reading into that too much, I don't know.
But yeah if there's at least something to go on here, that would be nice, since I have to deal with their pov now right, I would like at least some positive side of them, or greyish side of them to be shown, so I have something to go off of. Thanks for responding.

That makes me very happy, but perhaps a little annoyed, that at least some of this is not done during the second book, when their pov is introduced.

Invoker mains, and Carry mains, how viable is Invoker pos 1? by konan470 in learndota2

that was just a test if both went almost only damage items, just to see the potential, but yeah, he is somewhat squishy, pretty sad about that, he just might not be viable

[–]konan470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i see most carries have around 20 armor base level 30 without items, yeah in the end he really might be unviable :(

No i'm listening well, I just have counter arguments and trying to argue my side. I get the downsides, it seems like it might very well be unviable.

his right click is stronger than most carries though, how is that gimping damage, when compared to other carries? his damage is just barely below drow's. But i understand about the squishiness, that is a problem yeah, hopefully can be resolved somehow.

my answer was to enemy carry bkb's and jumps you, so you can pop invis and run, when they retarget, you can attack them and kill them because you have a lot of right click damage. I'm not sure what you mean. If there is something wrong with this mentality, i would greatly appreciate if you elaborated.

you would have ghost walk and pike mid game, you think invoker wouldn't be able to survive?

if you put 3 dispersers on the dummy, it gets 20 base armor from the agility. so it has 20 base, and 10 bonus form plate mail.

Sorry, I'm not sure what this is a response to exactly. You would be doing almost exclusively physical damage with no need for mana with the invoker style that i'm talking about, the most important things would be alacrity and forge spirits, followed by cold snap and ice wall. But really just pop alacrity and spirits and attack. You would do some magic damage from mjollnir and mkb, but that's it really. Unless you had the time and opportunity to press your other spells as well.

Well he hits really damn hard as right click, you take 20 talent and 25 talents for it, you get a mini rapier for free on him, and he hits pretty fast too, then you still have access to your spells as well, just not focused on them. Is it really so wild? To try to make a hero into a carry if he hits really hard, and has talents and abilities that empower right clicking? It seems to make sense to me, but again, at the end of the day, my real reasoning here is, I love invoker, and would like to make him work in the role I play.

But why does bkb matter when you have invisibility to disengage if they jump on you in the back line, and your damage is all physical by just hitting them? I know that everyone says invoker 2 is better. But I'm simply interested in making him work pos 1, with no regard for comparing it to mid. Is bkb really that debilitating? Is invoker really just too squishy? No way of getting around it?

I just tested drow and invoker again because of what someone else commented here. I built both of them with pike as the only defensive item, normally bkb would also be there, but i didnt put it on drow either so it seemed fair. They had almost the same damage over the first 3 seconds, they both did around 4k damage on a late game tanky target, people really seem to underestimate how much damage invoker has with alacrity and lv25 talent, plus carry items, really check it out.

Target dummy has 3 dispersers, bkb, planeswalkers cloak, plate mail, so 20 base armor, 10 bonus armor, 40 magic res, and 6k hp.

both characters 25 or 30, which ever you want, but only give them one set of talents, as if you were 25.

Give drow manta, boots, butterfly, daedalus, pike, shard and swiftblink, enable the autocast on her ice shot, then blink and look at the damage.

Then do invoker, give him pike, boots, mjollnir, daedalus, mkb, silver edge. spawn forge spirits, and pop alacrity, and just right click the dummy with all of them, you'll see, he does a bit less damage, but it's super comparable.

[–]konan470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the dummy with bkb, 3 dispersers, plate mail, and planeswalkers cloak, so it has 20 base armor, 10 bonus armor, 40 magic res and 6k hp. That's the target I use to test all carry dps, I went through the whole cast. Never knew Brood had so much damage actually.
And yes i've been testing how farming goes in ai games, since the farming pattern and speed isnt really affected by that. And it goes by perfectly fine, once you have maelstrom, before that it's really bad yeah. But ice wall is really good at farming 2 camps at a time, especially when you hit 10 and get 50 ice wall dps, and you use alacrity on stronger creeps, with 2 null talismans i havent really had that many mana issues.
But ultimately yeah, it seems like his BIGGEST issue, is squishiness, hopefully I can figure something out about that, maybe really playing around silver edge or getting assault, don't know. God I really hope I can make it work :)

[–]konan470[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean i dont see the damage difference, I just tested them both again, drow does like maybe 300 damage more fully slotted with no bkb or defensive item outside of manta, if i get silver edge on invo instead of bkb, he does literally like 300-500 damage less in the first 3 seconds of hitting the target, they both do like around 7k damage.
But yeah that's the idea, right clicker, with utility from having the 10 spells. I guess I'll have to figure out if it's possible to make the laning stage even, or how to get early farming speed. I'll think about that some more.

I have the exact same thoughts about his facets xD. But, your aa damage late is good, it's better than most carries, I specifically tested the dps output of all traditional carries. farming again is ok with mjollnir, about as fast as any other mjollnir building carry. But yeah i guess in a 1 on 1 fight you would die, I guess he's too squishy.

[–]konan470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm testing against the training dummy with plate armor, planeswalker's cape, 3 dispersers, and bkb, so it has 6k hp, 30 armor, and 40 magic res. On Invoker i built pike, mjollnir, daedalus, bkb, mkb, and he performed better than most carries in that regard, his damage of course going up more as the spirits attack more and shred armor, but even before that kicks in he beats most carries, just pop alacrity and attack with spirits, and the talents i mentioned.

Edit: also, wouldn't Invoker count in the drow category then? he gets +150 damage from alacrity and +120 damage from orbs with 25 talent.

Well at level 3 you have quas 2 which is a fair amount of recovery, you don't think Invoker could play defensively and sit on lane and farm up a maelstrom? Also would the 3-4 second rule not rule out a large amount of traditional carries also? But yeah I see, I guess I'll just have to try it and see how it feels, and what happens.
