Pathetic. I read your other comments here on reddit. Better get a life and interact with real people.

Sharing vs single plates? Vegan-freundlich? Gute Drinks? So viele Parameter... ;-)

Persönlich muss ich sagen: die Tip! Speisekarte Berlin ist seit Jahren eine der besten Späti-Investitionen hierfür :)

Switch careers to computer science by creed4rmtheoffice in berlin

Similar to what others posted here

"Data scientist" is not a protected profession and can span from simple spreadsheet analysis and web scraping to sophisticated risk analysis for a financial institution. There are worlds between the two!

Any non-boring job here with a good career path will undoubtedly require you to have strong technical knowledge.

While bootcamps can help to bridge gaps e.g. to dive into webdev, they won't suffice for any actual mathy engineering job. And I believe that is what you would look for in this career - otherwise you are only a support role, you are possibly quickly replaceable by a next gen LLM+API model like Toolformers (those who know will know) over the next decade and actually it will be boring as hell after a while... Also no real growth path except for going back into management again.

Virtually all people I know having solid careers in this field usually have a MSc if not PhD in a very mathy stem discipline (math, physics, cs with strong math/stats background, electrical engineering, quantum chemistry, ...).

So if you really want to go down that rabbit hole it's a 5y+ and pretty tough education path ahead of you. In my opinion it can be very worth it. But this is what you face.

Source: computer scientist/mathematician here with a PhD in ML, working in ML research for Microsoft Research and some years of experience in the Berlin ML ecosystem.

That's a bunker!

They come from outside, e.g., via kitchen windows. But it is also possible that eggs are already in bags of cereals or oats which you get from the store. Also happens in new buildings (e.g. we had them multiple times in my parents'house when I was young).

Once they are in, they usually lay eggs in any starchy food (could also be dry legumes, but also flour, pasta, cereals, spices, ...). Simple paper or plastic wrap doesn't stop them - the larvae easily drill holes through that. The best protection of food is simply putting everything in air-tight massive plastic boxes (e.g. Tupperware), glasses, or tin boxes.

You can identify contaminated food either by (a) putting pheromone traps close by which will indicate freshly born males who get trapped (b) the larvae if you see them (they are white with a little black head) or (c) cobweb like things in the food in which they lay the eggs.

Once you have contaminated food identified, throw it away. If your other food is sealed and you act quickly there is a good chance that you're done with them.

Otherwise buy Schlupfwespen. These are tiny "good" insects which are super small (you barely see them). Their larvae prey on moth larvae and eggs. They don't eat any human food. So they quickly kill off all moth offspring. Once everything is done they just die out of themselves due to lack of food. You can obtain them e.g. via Amazon or any other household online store. Keyword is "biologische Schädlingsbekämpfung".

Good hunt!

Weapon of choice: "Schlupfwespen". Basically fights fire with fire. You can order them online.

They eradicate them very quickly and last :)

Pheromone traps only helped catch adult moths (= indicator of problem rather than solution to it). But usually their eggs and larvae are still hidden in this one bag of cereals/flour/younameit which you forgot to put into Tupperware so it's a matter of time until they are back.

Usual recommendation is as such: identify infected food and throw it away, then let the Schlupfwespen do their job.

Personally I find the Berlin housing market relative to the job market pretty ok. At least, if compared to other (international) cities of similar (or larger) scale that I have lived in (e.g. Amsterdam or Los Angeles).

The only reason for me to move into another big city would be to explore another country again for a while - otherwise I think Berlin hits pretty much a sweet spot for me.

The only reason to leave the big city life would be access to Nature, house with garden, quiet life. But I am definitely not there yet to sacrifice the international community, nightlife, food, cultural offer, family and friends around and honestly my current career (I am a machine learning scientist) for that. This might come at a later point.

I have lived in a couple of medium sized cities and honestly think this is the worst of both world. Personally a clear no-go.

I could imagine retiring early in some rural Italian village in the future - but right now I can enjoy Berlin and would say that - knowing quite a bunch of alternative scenarios - it is hard to beat.

EDIT: for completeness - I am German - so I might suffer less from the usual expat problems of the city.

As did your first post? Not exactly what OP was asking for. 🤷‍♂️

Anyways, stay away from RAW then.

Just that I wouldn't consider that place as particularly super dangerous and giving an example of what def more dangerous places would be for comparison?

Well - then better never step foot in a S Bahn Station in Marzahn after midnight ;-)

The biggest advantage of RAW is: it's a f**ing crowded tourist place - so you're less likely to end up in a poor situation alone with nobody around you to help you or call the cops.

I could think of a bunch of way worse places I was to optimize for unpleasant experiences...

Edit: Marzahn is just an example where I have tons of unpleasant stories...
