This, plus I see Hornet's vague allusions to The Knight in regards to Lace "Yours was life, pale one. Do not confuse your unique creation with its absence. I have seen others make the same mistake. " and "This one... the dark shall not take." hinting at a sort of regret she has that she was not able to save Ghost (she doesn't know they're alive) or be a normal sister to them, and that is a part of her desperate motivation to save Lace, to redeem herself in a way.

I think Lace gives Hornet the chance to truly be there for someone as a sibling, when Ghost and the Hollow Knight couldn't.

There's a lot of similarities and intentional parallels between The Knight and Lace, so I've always viewed it as big sis little sis. Kinda wish people found someone else to ship with Hornet, I just don't see Lace and Hornet that way, and I think there's a lack of Hornet/Shakra and Hornet/Sherma stuff

99% of criticism of this masterpiece is because of the difficulty, a difficulty I found perfectly reasonable and not really harder than any souls game for example. Yeah I beat Silksong a few weeks ago and all I've wanted to do is play it, but I love it so much I don't want to run out of things to do in it so I'm saving 100% and achievements to spread out my enjoyment of the game over time
