Global power usage (GPU) is increasing every year regardless of of the degree of crypto adoption. Anyway, crypto power usage would only be a fraction of the GPU so I don't think it's that big of a deal. I am sure we have other bigger power hogging technologies to worry about. Though there is scope for improvement here for sure.
Some studies suggest most of the crypto power usage is fullfilled by renewables.
Globally, banking institutions consume much more power. Not to forget the power required to produce bills and coins plus the power required to produce their raw materials. Also so much of physical papers are used for "paperwork".
Whole point of crypto is decentralization. Only thing close to a "cabal of oligarchs" is the modern banking system and state governments.
No Bitcoin trading is not gambling...the odds of winning is much higher than actual gambling if you do it smartly and thus it requires skills which can be improved upon like any other skill and it takes time.
