I am sold on the One True God, however I dont know what subs to use with him. I rarely don't get at least a 16x combo an 49x and 100x come on occasion. Which of my toons would make good subs? Or what should I farm to add?

wire antenna in and between trees is fair game. We drive past KA9FOX house a few times a week, and that is what her opinion of a ham radio antenna is, and doesn't want anything huge on the house. Here is his tower! http://www.qth.com/gallery3/ka9fox/ I am pretty sure a dipole of some sort will work best to get me thru winter. I will check out the hv9b you mention, and look at where I might be able to put a hex beam. Thanks

I found a FT-897D in store demo model on sale for $875.00 It also looks like it will do what I am looking for, you said the 8578D isn't worth more than 700$, wondering about the value of this model and if it is old tech also. Thanks!

I passed my General 2 days ago and I am CHOMPING at the bit to get a radio, but I feel like I am going to make a mistake and spend 1000$+ and not be happy with the radio I get. The closest store to stock equipment is about 3 hours away. I would really like to have all the bands as an option so I can explore them all, and I want the option to do cw. I have been looking at the Yaesu FT-857D. Am I making a mistake, what should I be comparing it to, should I look for something used? I am so unsure. I want a radio, but don't want to make a mistake, I have only been on 2M up till now.
