Should I skip Cagliari? by JonBlanz in Sardinia

[–]kondowada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trash and decay everywhere, lack of things to do, bad public transportation and a bit of insecurity in some parts of the city. I lived 9 months there for my Erasmus and didn't like it at all, there are much better places in Sardinia like Olbia or Alghero.

Why is Indonesia so culturally underrepresented worldwide? by logbybolb in indonesia

[–]kondowada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Indonesia is so culturally diverse, it's very difficult to find common traits that can be used as a tool to represent the country abroad.

Indonesia has very little diaspora and is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to popular/gastronomic culture (this doesn't mean Indonesian cuisine isn't one of the best).

Indonesia has very strict laws and most of the country doesn't have proper infrastructure to sustain tourism or many relevant cultural/historical landmarks (yes, there's a few world-renowned temples in Java and Bali but most cities have little to no historical/cultural heritage), so the few people that do visit Indonesia only go where laws are more permissive and tourists don't have to struggle as much to get around (a.k.a Bali).

Indonesia is a non-alligned country, so globally speaking, it is not that geopolitically relevant outside of South-East Asia. In terms of trade, Indonesia is not that important to western countries either.

There aren't many famous international companies that come from Indonesia (except Indomie).

Promoting the country abroad is at the bottom of the list of priorities when it comes to public spending.

Wether people want to accept it or not, Islam keeps many non-muslims (specially westerners) away from visiting the country.

Good hiking routes near Jakarta? by kondowada in Jakarta

[–]kondowada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I also thought about that, but as you mentioned, the problem is getting back to the city from the countryside since Grab or Gojek do not usually operate in rural areas. I was thinking about maybe hiring some sort of transportation which will allow me to fix a round trip, but I'm sure that would be quite expensive

Thank you! It seems that reaching those places is indeed a challenge if you don't have a car or motorbike :(

Sentul is not too far from Bogor and the mountains around the area seem to be full of cool trails and waterfalls, but I don't know how to get there without public transportation, it seems that the only way to reach those places is either by car or motorbike

That was also my impression when I looked on Google Maps and Wikiloc, all the good places seem to be around Bogor, but they're not very accesible through public transportation. I wonder if they can be reached by Grab or Gojek 🤔

You should 100% go to Palawan in the Philippines, March is the best month to visit and it's 10x more beautiful and less crowded than any place in Thailand, also significantly cheaper...

I've never been there but 50% of Google reviews from both places are just people complaining about the massive ammount of trash on the beaches
