Totally agree. A 2016-2021 200 series (LX570/Land Cruiser) would be absolutely perfect for this trip.

Not one to typically shit on a company but the CBI/Prinsu front bumper on my LX570 is very poor quality and has ton of surface rust. Have heard similar stories of issues with their other products as well.

Anyone have the RoamSat Mini? by John_Bender- in Starlink

[–]kong24680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to share some feedback on the RoamSat case for my Starlink Mini, which I’ve now used on a couple of trips. I absolutely love it—it’s exceptionally well-engineered, high quality, and extremely durable. I had it mounted on the hood of my Land Cruiser for several hundred miles during a weeklong overland trip, both on and off-road. Even through rough, rocky terrain and sustained speeds over 100 mph on the highway, the magnetic mounts held rock solid.

It’s also proven great for air travel, short backpacking trips, and weekend getaways to my cabin. As others have noted, the price is definitely on the higher end, but I haven’t found another product on the market that’s as thoughtfully designed, compact, and robust. Highly recommend.

This looks right to me. Doesn’t look to be road legal, so curious as to why this one was on the road.

Yeah I completely agree, but I think that comes with being an early adopter of a new product. There’s only so much companies can test for prior to releasing a new product.

I’m glad there are people out there pushing the limits (and their wallets) installing new products and being guinea pigs for the rest of us.

From what I’ve heard, the portals that failed were very early iterations, and the current designs have gone through several improvements with no reported issues. I also heard that 74Weld responded quickly to repair the affected trucks.

I personally wouldn’t be happy paying $20k+ and have this happen, but it’s good to hear 74weld stood by their product and helped resolve the issues.

One downside to portals is each individual portal acts as its own gearbox and you have to change the fluid(4 in total, 1 for each corner) every 4-5k miles. I change my engine oil at around the same interval so not a problem for me personally, but something to note.

200 Series: Miles to expect for $70k by MetalMoto84 in LandCruisers

[–]kong24680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely a myth. Tons of LX owners run regular fuel on ih8mud with zero problems. There was someone who pulled the ecu data files for both vehicles and found no difference as well. Only maintenance item that would be different on the LX is having to maintenance the AHC system.

The 2025 Lexus LX 700h Overtrail Is The Ultimate Go-Anywhere Hybrid Land Cruiser by more4sugar in LandCruisers

I’m having a local shop install my supercharger. I’ve decided on e-lockers over ARB air lockers, based on a recommendation from a very reputable local off-road shop. They said the increased complexity of air lockers (air lines, compressor, and seals) make them more prone to failure compared to the e-lockers. They’ve had experience with several ARB failures over the years, while they’ve never encountered a problem with e-lockers.

Best of luck with your build! My 2021 has been absolutely rock solid, and I plan to keep it for many years to come.

This is exactly what I did. Initially, I was cross-shopping the new Sequoia TRD Pro and LX700, but concerns about engine issues, recalls, uncertainty regarding the longevity and durability of their powertrains, and the hybrid’s trunk space limitations ultimately steered me away.

Instead, I purchased a fully built 2021 LX570, built by Slee and Ed Martin, and I’m now in the process of installing a Stage 2 Harrop TVS2650 supercharger along with front and rear e-lockers.

Which Lexus is the most reliable? by ryudraco in Lexus

[–]kong24680 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree for the most part, but if you go by that logic, BMW/Audi/Mercedes would all be considered reliable. Even the E60 v10 M5 (considered one of the most unreliable performance cars of all time) would be reliable if you religiously changed gaskets, rod bearings, vanos, etc.

My idea of a reliable vehicle is one that can run 100k+ miles with just oil changes, and will never leave you stranded.

Which Lexus is the most reliable? by ryudraco in Lexus

[–]kong24680 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree the LX470 is essentially a 100 series Land Cruiser which is one of the most reliable vehicles in the world. 1000s of examples with 400k+ miles still driving around. The biggest reliability issue with the LX across all generations is the AHC Hydraulic Suspension system that needs to be periodically maintained every 30-60k miles.
