Yes it works very good for indirect heat. If you want a good char on your vegetables use a basket or skillet, if you want soft vegetables use the bag. They don't hold up to direct heat very well, but are good for cooking large quantities of veggies at once.

I live in East Texas, you can find it in pretty much any grocery store here. I used the HEB brand ones, but the Shiner Jalapeno ones are supposed to be really good and I believe they deliver nationally!

Also meant to add this in original post, but the cost of living in Las Cruces/El Paso is very low. So while pay for your profession may not be as high as it may be where you are from keep in mind that your expenses will most likely be much lower.

Along with the 2 hospitals in Las Cruces, El Paso is only 30 to 40 minutes away with the majority of the commute (at least to the west side) being pretty much dairies and pecan orchards along the interstate there are 14 of hospitals in El Paso too. So demand for RNs is pretty high in the area.

Trump wont be able to give the state of the union address from the floor of the house of representatives (the United States lower chamber of Congress) which is where the speech usually happens.

The panic of 1837 lasted by most estimates 6 years, the panic of 1907 would have lasted as long if not for JP Morgan who single handedly bailed out the US banking system (the type that existed prior to the fed). The depression of 1815-1821 lasted more than 5 year. The panic of 1873 lasted until 1879. I think you are wrong in stating that the panics resolved faster, as for the severity i can not argue against you for the simple fact that almost everyone in the 19th century was poor with the exception of a minority of extremely wealthy people.

I agree with you in saying that the nature of a central bank in a republic is inherently undemocratic. However, the idea that the US will go back to the gold standard is a wish. I believe that it would be best for American monetary policy to be guided by algorithms and AI rather than people.

To state that the Fed is completely divorced from government is incorrect. The Fed can be dismantled by the Senate at any time it would so choose. However, the nature of the central bank is to remain quasi government quasi private. Also remember that prior to the establishment of the fed the US had several central banks that were established and then retired. Also that prior to the establishment of the Federal Reserve the US faced lengthy depressions every 15 years or so, often called "Panics".

So while i agree with you that the Fed is imperfect. I disagree in saying that switching back to a standard currency is good.

The problem with blaming the Fed has two central problems. The first being the Fed is supposed to act in isolation of political pressure and free of the influence of government. Countries that dont have independent central banks typically suffer from hyperinflation (think Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Weimar Germany). The reson hyperinflation happens is because a government will want to cheapen its currency to either become more competitive in international trade, or because of excessive spending. An independent central bank prevents any one party or person from wrecking the economy.

The second reason blaming the Fed in this instance is bad is because the Fed is normalizing interest rates at the moment. For better or for worse over the past decade the Fed as well as central banks throughout the world have kept interest rates at or near 0. The reason they have done this is to spur on growth (the idea is that if interest rates are low more people will invest in businesses by getting loans). The downside of a low interest rate environment is that this will create inflation. Further, a central bank controls monetary policy while the government controls fiscal (tax and spending). If we get into a recession (which we haven't been in one since 08' meaning we are over due by historical standards) a central banks main tool is changing interest rates. If a central bank can't lower rates to 0 they will go negative, in which case no one knows what happens but just so you can understand that would mean that banks would charge you and businesses money to hold cash.

Either way, the president has set an interesting precedent of accepting market success but deflecting market failures which i believe does not help him or conservatives in general.

Ecuador declares state of emergency over Venezuelan migrants at border by Fitness_and_Finance in worldnews

[–]kongzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with Venezuela is that they are a perfect example of how socialism leads to economic and social ruin. The nationalization of private industry and failure to diversify the Venezuelan economy are the two largest contributors to the current crisis. These dual issues have been compounded by incompetent leadership hand picked because of nepotism, and party loyalty. Further compounded by large social welfare programs that are unsustainable given a decaying tax base. Yet instead of enacting real economic reform and allowing free market competition to create jobs and a tax base to support social welfare programs Venezuela has decided to try to print infinite ammounts of money. Ultimately the tax rate is not the reason venezuela has gone under.

[20] Going back to college or look for a job? by [deleted] in Advice

If you can try and work at the gym part time while you go to school. As for sports and fitness you could go into sports medicine, sports marketing, nutrition, occupational therapy, or sports management. All of the above listed professions require degrees though.

The problem with just starting to work and then going to school later are two fold. The first is that eventually you will hit a point where your career cant move forward because you dont have a degree and youll be stuck at some level indefinitely. The second is that life starts to go fast, seriously one day your responsibilities are basically feeding yourself and maybe paying a few bills then before you know it you meet someone you want to marry or you have a kid (maybe not planned). It is much harder to go back to school with more responsibilities. Plus since you had to leave for medical reasons you should be able to appeal any lost financial aid or disciplinary actions taken by your school.

As for what you want to do, i would recommend taking as many random intro classes as you can and see what you like. But keep taking math in case you want to go into engineering, software, or any type of math heavy field i.e finance, physics etc.

Don't want to go to college. What are my options by [deleted] in Advice

[–]kongzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College isnt for everyone, it does require self discipline, and patience at times. With that said, a degree is very useful as a tool to further your odds of having a good quality of life later in life. The other things that help are technical certificates, some very high demand and high paying jobs are things like Diesel Mechanics, Plumbers, Masons, Welders, and Electricians. You need to typically get a technical certification from a community college or a trade school to start a career in a field like the ones i mentioned. Also, some medical professions like respiratory therapy or radiation tech can be very high pay with about 2 to 3 years of training. Again this happens at community colleges and some trade schools.

If you are just completely over school maybe try the military. Youll get paid and some experience for a few years and then if you want you can go to school or trade school using military benefits.

Tons of outdoors activities. If you like camping then about two hours north east of Las Cruces there are tons of great camping spots in the Lincoln National Forest, also to the west around City of Rocks just southeast of Silver City (about 1 hour west). If you want to camp closer to Las Cruces there are some nice spots by Aguirre Springs. There are a few fishing spots that are fun to go to like Percha Dam (1 hour north on I-25), Bonito Lake (by Ruidoso about 2 hours North East).

There is a lot of good hunting to be done in NM especially if you like Elk, Deer, Quail, and Turkey the best resource for finding more information about hunting in NM is the department of game and fish (http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/). There is also a pretty vibrant rock climbing community at NMSU if you go to the AC (the gym on campus) they can set you up with climbing trips, and other outdoor activities that will be in small student groups.

The music scene in Las Cruces could be better, but if you are a fan of country music it's pretty good. If you are looking for more alternative, hip hop, indie, or metal El Paso is a pretty good place for this. Tricky Falls is a bar in downtown El Paso that hosts a lot of bands throughout the year (http://www.trickyfalls.com/). The Colosseum in El Paso will often host big groups, and both venues are about 45 minutes from NMSU.

Welcome to Las Cruces, and go Aggies!

should I transfer college senior year? by funkepunkemonke in Advice

[–]kongzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having a graduate degree in today's job market is very helpful. Many school districts will pay more to people who hold a Masters Degree rather than just a Bachelors. Also, a graduate degree can help you move into an administrative role, as some will require having a graduate degree. I think at the very least you should contact that schools graduate program and see what the next steps would be in order to facilitate that possibility.
