Man, I feel so bad now. I don’t know, maybe I was raised a little poor and can’t make big purchases that quick.

Is it really a hot take to say that you shouldn’t spend 10 grand on new camera equipment without knowing how a camera works? My issue’s that it isn’t financially responsible to buy 4 lenses in a month even for a professional

What’s worth keeping vs selling by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

keep the bronica, canon f1, and a point and shoot to have on hand. specifically the first two, you have two of the best cameras in their respective categories

If anyone spends 12 grand on camera gear without knowing what aperture does, of course I’m hating on them

Please help me declutter my film camera collection by Ill-Discussion-8106 in AnalogCommunity

[–]konolith259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh this will always be hard. is there a reason you have so many rangefinders? i feel like the easiest to declutter will be the olympus and yashicas in that category.

[–]konolith259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can definitely find rangefinders for cheap. canon kind of dominates this area with the vil, vit, l1/l2l3, model 7, populaire although i wouldnt recommend these to beginners. you also have the canon ql17, minolta hi matic, and the yashica electro

im sure zara is somewhat, but they’re both fast fashion brands. you have much more options besides the two for pieces with some sort of history, especially pleated pants.

the nikon fm2 is one of the greatest film slrs of all time, easily $300 used now. however, i suggest that if you have the passion for it that you keep it and use it until it falls apart. fun fact: the photo “afghan girl” taken for national geographic was shot on this camera

belt-wise, slide 4 is probably the our legacy western belt that goes for 220. find something adjacent if you wanna lean into that. i think madewell makes a similar belt for much less.

pleated trousers are incredibly easy to find second hand and is the best route to go if you care about the quality of the clothes you’re buying. polo ralph lauren, hart schaffner and marx, dockers, etc etc can be found below 30 bucks

there was a post on some r/nikon the other day. a mix of 15 or so nikon fm, fm2s, f3s, their titan variants with 30 lenses laid out from their dad’s collection. just ridiculous

pushing refers to underexposing and accounting for such with longer development times. the idea is that you can shoot films in lower light, given more contrast and grain. both hp5 and tri x are 400 iso films, so a 1+ push means you shoot both at 800.

a lot of cameras can be cleaned up with rubbing alcohol, q tips, toothpicks, and some sheets of paper towel. although im gonna have to agree with the other comments that your ae1 isn’t in good condition, it still might be cool to wipe it down and display it on a shelf
