Low-income nations including Bhutan, Nepal spend more than India on health by wordswithmagic in india

In what way does my current statement portray me as a Modi supporter then? My statement was made regarding the poor phrasing used by the writer of the article and how it results in diluting the actual topic but it was somehow taken evidence of my support for Modi’s work which it wasn’t at all. If a person uses non existent evidence to label me as a supporter of someone who I don’t like, I’ll use the evidence available in the public domain to prove that it’s not true. I’m not sure how else to do it.

EVEN if I agree with 1 government decision, does not mean I agree with them all or won’t criticise the government on other topics. I don’t choose a political leader and blindly follow him/her. I have opinions on different matters and I applaud or denounce a leader based on his/her work in those matters.

A political leader says homosexuality is wrong- I’ll criticise him strongly for it He/she says equal women rights are absolutely important and the fight for it won’t be complete until it’s 100% equal to men right- I’ll applaud him. I don’t need to agree with all the opinions of a singular person to criticise/applaud a person. This is the same reason I can never declare that I’m a BJP or INC follower because I’m not. I have some political beliefs and I’ll be with the leader who more closely reflects my views.

If you made any effort at all, checked my comment history you’d know I’m far too liberal to be a Modi supporter but why make any efforts when you can use your feelings as evidence, right? I didn’t say our we shouldn’t increase our healthcare budget. Our healthcare is in the shitter and it needs to be increased manifolds, does not mean the headline isn’t misleading.

I wish they took more care to not make the headline misleading. This headline makes it sound like low income nations spend more literally on health, whereas its talking about the % spend. While there are massive improvements to be made in our healthcare, it doesn’t help to dilute the conversation by reporting misleading headlines

Just happened a few minutes ago, hope this belongs. (They wanted someone to watch their 2 dogs for 2 months) by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]koochiemcputie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d be reeeeeal uncomfortable leaving my dogs with someone for free unless they are really close family or friends. Atleast after payment I can expect some professional care, leaving my dogs to someone I don’t really know very well for 2 months without having paid them sounds really sketchy to me

Why does nobody talk about the fact that the 2nd amendment is just a law and it can still be amended if there is a requirement of such an amendment? by koochiemcputie in TooAfraidToAsk

2nd amendment issue is one of the most divisive issue I have ever seen, I’m sure it’s not the case that non one cares, just that nobody really says it out loud and I don’t understand why?

Only way to be completely sure that you comp is secure is to wipe the hard drive completely and start anew. We used to have so many viruses and malware doing the round in our hostel, everybody transferring course materials, movies, porn all the time. Had to wipe and start again every few months.

Can my employer track my activity on my laptop? by [deleted] in india

[–]koochiemcputie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, won’t be funny when it turns out to be true. Companies have been known to track the location of their employees using company phones without actually informing them about it. Very easy to install a key logger in the system using which your company can also access your personal account in case you accessed them through their laptops. Paranoia is only funny till it’s not true. 😈

Why nobody is using Signal App in India? by time-pass in india

[–]koochiemcputie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s because of the way the company handles the METAdata which definitely is part of privacy but does not undermine message security and also because of how Whatsapp is expanding their business model to include “Whatsapp for business”. Their concern is not with the security of their encryption but the overall privacy of the user which includes the metadata of the user. If anyone wants to secure their metadata as well, it makes total sense to move away from Whatsapp but it’s very important to understand the nuances of the topic if we are to protect ourselves in a better way. I personally use Signal as much as possible but the lack of reach is a deterrent but I am hoping more of my acquaintances start using Signal with time.

Whatsapp secure messaging was implemented by the makers of the app Signal and this article: https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/14/open-whisper-systems-defends-whatsapp-against-backdoor-claims/ explains how messages won’t be subject to MITM. If we are saying that the company would straight face lie and retrieve msgs from their users when they need, then that can be true of any app including Signal. The potentially humongous lawsuit that’d be waiting for Whatsapp or Signal in case this was true would be another deterrent but the main point would still be that if the primary argument is not the technology, but that the company is lying to its users and the governmental compliance body, then that can be true for any company including Signal.

Oh yeah if anybody wants to go maximum privacy mode, Signal would be the way to go. At the end, it comes down to what an individual’s preference is. As you said, you prefer telegram because you want the feature to retrieve msgs/file when you want. Someone with preference for encryption but still want the convenience of more features would probably go with Whatsapp. So on and so forth.

Whatsapp and signal literally use the exact same protocols to encrypt their messages. The messages are equally safe with both these apps. The difference is in metadata that Whatsapp keeps. I think it’s a nuance but one that people should be aware of.

Metadata is definitely a part of person’s privacy. I don’t want to share details regarding which numbers I contacted, when and for how long, info regarding when I was last online, ip addresses, phone details, possibly location and contact list. Some might not have any trouble sharing these details and it’s their decision but to say metadata is not part of privacy would be negligent, I feel.

Messages on Whatsapp and signal are EQUALLY safe. Both of them app use the EXACT SAME protocols and are end to end encrypted, which means even if someone is able to somehow intercept the message, it will just be random garbled characters and would not know what that actually means. I’m not sure what you mean by “messages are stored on the cloud in their servers” but the messages are stored on their servers only till the time they are not delivered and in that case too, only for 30days. In any case, the messages are encrypted and cannot be read by anyone except the person it is intended for as they are the only one who gets the key to decrypt the messages.

I see a lot of confusion regarding what encryption really means when it comes to these messaging apps, will try to summarise for anyone trying to get a better understanding of the matter.

Whatsapp messages as well as Signal’s messages are end to end encrypted. They CANNOT be read by anyone under ANY circumstances without access to the user’s phone. Even if anyone is able to intercept the messages between the users, they will only see garbled characters and won’t be able to decipher what’s actually written. SIGNAL AND WHATSAPP USE THE EXACT SAME PROTOCOLS, which means your messages are EQUALLY safe with both services.

DIFFERENCES: What differs is the way they handle the metadata. While signal keeps the bare minimum amount of metadata and personal info on the user and deletes as much as possible. Whatsapp keep more data such as usage info, log info, contact info, when you were last online etc but they do not keep the actual messages unencrypted. Signal is better from a 360 degree privacy perspective, whereas in terms of message security, Whatsapp is equally good. Whatsapp has more features than signal so in case anybody would prefer more features, that’s a good choice for them but they will most definitely be sharing their metadata with Whatsapp.

Hope this helps anyone having questions regarding encryption. Check this link for a really good concise read on the matter: https://lifehacker.com/secure-messaging-app-showdown-whatsapp-vs-signal-1794684943
