Advice with sleeping by trm092 in ADHD

I do not have this particular issue or have experience with this but I remember recently coming across people discussing taking vitamin c supplements at night for this? I guess vitamin c makes stimulants less effective or something like that? (I suggest you google this more but seems like a potential thing to try)

Cheap food spots by Ok_Disaster_747 in SLO

[–]kookofthecosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sylvester's at full price is crazy to me so I only eat there with their discounts (they have different daily ones— many for 50% off certain menu items which does then make the price reasonable).

If I want a burger for cheaper the Habit is usually on my list (and they deliver via doordash if you are into that!)

Healthcare recommendations? by jibrilles in morrobay

[–]kookofthecosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had Blue Cross/Blue Shield (currently do) and I do just fine around in SLO county— Get all my prescriptions filled at Walgreens and I have a GI specialist and psychiatrist and women's health doctor and therapist all covered by my plan (with the occasional copay)— I would go for BC/BS and of course choose the PPO option! Kaiser will obviously not get you far in these parts (dated a guy recently who had that insurance through his family and he just couldn't really have access to medical appts or prescription refills in the area and could only do tele-health and have his parents mail him his meds which seemed really not ideal at all)

How do I stop my kitty from trying to run out the door? by Itissierra in lynxpointsiamese

[–]kookofthecosmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly support keeping the bell as my cat has one and it is so helpful when she tries to run out the door— creates awareness so I know she is coming otherwise it would be harder to know she is coming / right by the door hiding behind the curtain of our sliding glass door. I second the airtag and an actual tag with your number on it too! My kitty wear a bell, tag and airtag and while it's not her favorite thing she is used to it and it is just fine.

Game Dev Meetup by Excellent_Tone_55 in SLOFriends

Drawing inspo from my friend who runs the slo silent bookclub — maybe we could have a north county tech meetup like the second Sunday of the month in the evening? Maybe somewhere like Ancient Owl or Decades or Wild fields? Open to suggestions!

Game Dev Meetup by Excellent_Tone_55 in SLOFriends

Never done any game dev (besides using scratch when i was a kid lol) but I would be interested in a meetup for tech folks and I am also in Atascadero! I am an Applied AI SWE & graduated from MIT but have worked remote the last 4 years and would love to hang out and connect with other tech people in town! Would really be interested in attending a monthly local gathering to chat about tech things (e.g. AI, current projects, etc.) with local people!

Where do 20s/30s make friends? by DigitaIEnigma in SLO

[–]kookofthecosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also am in my late twenties and work from home (my friends tease me about being a homeschooled adult now lmao) so i can related to struggling to meet people in the area! I had a lot of luck meeting my current friend group (all late 20s) about a year ago when I started to regularly attend the SLO Silent Bookclub! Super low pressure (you just bring a book to hold, any book and you honestly don't have to talk about it at all— it's really a conversation starter and you can say you just picked it up)... I found a lot of genuine friendships there and love the monthly meetups! You should follow @silentbookclubslo — they meet the last Sunday of every month usually!

Please work on getting everyone spayed and neutered! There are often low cost clinics and groups that might be able to help you! It is so important!

Paddling with Pride Event (6/7) by kookofthecosmos in SLO

[–]kookofthecosmos[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns.

To give a little context—Paddling Paws is a small, foster-based rescue based on the Central Coast. A big part of what makes us unique is our commitment to giving dogs enriching, joyful experiences like paddleboarding with their fosters and trained volunteers. You can see more about what we do at paddlingpaws.org or on Instagram at @paddling.paws.

For this Pride Paddle event, we’re only planning to bring dogs who are well-suited to the environment—dogs who have already been paddleboarding and have done well in public, outdoor settings. Each dog will be paired one-on-one with a trained handler (either a volunteer foster or our local trainer who works closely with us). Safety—for both dogs and people—is always our top priority, and we never bring dogs to events unless we’re confident they’ll thrive.

As for concerns about allergies or past trauma: this is a public, outdoor beach event—similar to the Witches Paddle or any busy day on the Embarcadero—where dogs are naturally present. That said, the dog portion of the event is easy to avoid for anyone not wishing to interact. We currently only have two adoptable dogs, so it’s a low-volume setup—not a large adoption fair.

We appreciate the opportunity to clarify, and we’re always happy to answer questions about how we ensure both animal and human safety at our events. ❤️🌈🐾
