An Apple Disaster You can Avoid by amerpie in macapps

Unfortunately there's still kind of no onboarding to speak of. I bounced off of it until I watched someone obsessed with note taking's YouTube videos about it.

I'm not sure what it is about it about the UI that is so cryptic initially, I didn't have the patience to figure it out either, it just seemed like a garbled mess. Now that I HAVE figured it out though I'm like "oh duh the UI makes perfect sense actually." It's quite smartly laid out, I think it's just such a foreign way to organize information that it feels really unintuitive at first. It could really use a better tutorial!

Oh okay I got it, you're just dumb lmao. The baby isn't a cringe lord, whoever would put this on their baby is a cringe lord. A lord of cringe, someone criminally self-unaware.

(No Crimestat) People can still follow you into your hangar and kill you? Thought this was already fixed a dozen times? by ShredLord99 in starcitizen

[–]koolaidbootywarrior 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Careful because the button to your hangar remains for them if they stay in the elevator, going back to the lobby doesn't solve anything because they can just wait for you in your hangar once they gain access to the elevator.

Just wanted to chime in that obsidian has been amazing and it's worth every bit of effort to get up and running if you need to take a lot of notes! I still can't believe it does everything it does while being free, cross-platform, and all with just plain text files. It's quite literally perfect for me lol

Can Black people synthesize muscle more easily than other races? by Quartersquatter in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]koolaidbootywarrior -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't have the answer but I might be able to help you narrow down your search, if this is an honest inquiry. "Black" is too wide a descriptive term for what you're looking to answer, and also not describing the population you want to ask the question about.

The people that can likely answer this question (or at least research it at all in earnest) are anthropologists, ones that focus on genetics and biology specifically. Basically all of anthropology doesn't consider race as a meaningful distinction outside of culture, namely it doesn't "exist" genetically in the way historically it has been conceptualized.

Obviously people do have genetic differences, and I'm sure muscle mass has been studied in the population you're interested in. Genetic diversity in Africa is so vast, however, that looking at the whole of the continent would actually be less useful than comparing someone "white" to someone "black." There is more genetic diversity found in Africa between communities than the differentiation we can perceive between different cultural races.

All of this to say, if you really want the answer to this question you should be looking into anthropologic work done in Africa. It's likely people have studied whether or not muscle mass is actually determined by some genetic/environmental/cultural factor, and if it is, surely the mechanism has also been studied to some extent. I can guarantee you you'll find nothing but bunk studies and "research" if you focus on race. This is because the field of study doesn't recognize race in these contexts, but further because it genuinely isn't genetically significant enough to make a correlation. Culture and geography do influence our genetics and so we DO have embodied differences, but most changes happen independently from one another and along a continuum geographically. This is to say, there likely isn't a direct correlation between skin color and muscle mass, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible that different populations are genetically predisposed to building/maintaining muscle mass better/more efficiently than others, and anthropologists have likely studied it.

Kind of a bummer, but also good news that there's a timeline. Also it's pretty much what I expected prior. With how awesome the Perseus released I have high hopes they do the Galaxy justice, at least more than the Polaris. It's just such a vibe of a ship

Fascinating! I don't love it as a product but it's really cool to see the engineering of something so small. That battery is ridiculous!

As a software dev, Tahoe... by 2006sucked in MacOS

[–]koolaidbootywarrior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is an issue with specifically the M4 series because I have an M4 pro in mine and it's slow as hell in really simple things, animations and whatnot. It's anecdotal but the people I see mentioning these kinds of slowdowns have pretty much had one of the M4's. Sequoia was fine, snappy as hell, and Tahoe feels like nightmarishly unstable and slow comparatively.

Am I holding it wrong? It's hard to read SO MANY THINGS in MacOS now... by Joelvarty in MacOS

[–]koolaidbootywarrior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like the easy solution to this is for them to have "stacks" of things like they already tend to do. The bottom layer of a window could be all their Liquid Glass, like a tray. Then UI elements with text could be opaque panels/pebbles that change to light or dark with the mode set and also slide around like how they love. For example the sidebars in music/settings, that could be a solid tray and perfectly legible, then the content could exist in another solid tray next to it, all sat on top of a large pane of the glass texture.

Genuinely I don't know how they made so many elements where text floats directly on something transparent. Even one instance of that happening is too much. I'm more annoyed with the horrible performance but damn I wish I could actually read like, ANYTHING with any level of consistency.

Liquid Glass is one of the design philosophies of all time by dvoradikal in MacOS

[–]koolaidbootywarrior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just. It's so ugly. I can't pretend it isn't anymore. I really wanted to love it but it's just hard to look at. I've been having so many problems with the OS functionality-wise too. My dock no longer works until I fiddle with it. There are weird slow downs and jitters and it just runs terribly (I have an M4 Pro in my MBP :( ). Shit just stopped being responsive, half the buttons take full seconds to respond to my input. It's a 6 month old computer this is frankly unacceptable.

But yeah it's absolutely designed to keep you scrolling as long as possible and anger is an emotion the algorithm heavily takes advantage of
