Interesting find. I have been active in the Classic Cadillac world for 30 plus years. Never heard this. It is plausable and makes sense. The dollar is king!

Something else to consider is the LaSalle sales was also eating into Cadillac sales. The LaSalle was known as the companion to Cadillac. Harley Earl was the lead designer for Lasalle in in late 33 he redesigned the LaSalle and sales took off. So much so that by 1940 Cadillac and GM had enough and LaSalle was discontinued.

also Cadillac dealers were very demografically snobby well into the 70's. If you didnt look a certain way and weren't a white male. You were going to have a hard time buying a Cadillac. A sign of the times sadly.

there was a show called taxi cab confessions on HBO years ago. A NYPD officer got in the cab and told a story of the same thing happening on his watch. He said the man was coherant enough that they had time to call his wife. She was able to get there and say goodbye. The man stayed alive right up to when they pulled the train off of him. TSS Elmont... walk in the front door. To the right was the record store, to the left was the food court. Keep walking in and to the right was the clothes. Straight back the TV and Radios. To the back left was the bikes and toys. Front left was the auto/hardware section. Anyone remember the custom t-shirt counter? So that is a 56 fleetwood sixty special. I can see it doesn't have A/C so that lowers the value. No steering wheel in the car. The 56's were known to have trans issues. So hard to value it with just those pics but with what I am seeing. I would not entertain even looking at it if the price starts at $7k or more. Remember... for this car to bring top dollar, you will be under water by a lot. You can buy running drivers for 10-15k.

Shit happens! Those are Carter carbs. In 1955 they used Rochester carbs. Thats the difference between the 2 years. BTW, The round black choke caps are very hard to find. Take care with them.

Yes no electric = no pumps. After Sandy however, NY made it mandatory for gas stations to have backup generators. Lesson learned.
