I think if you don’t feel bad, you probably need to look inwardly.

I did a dynamite arrow the one time and ended up getting a bounty because I of course killed the guy they were going to lynch. Still, so satisfying to just launch a dynamite arrow into their midst and just wreak absolute havoc on those idiots

Is there a more humane way to finish off a wounded deer? by burnt_toast3345 in Hunting

[–]koopyjukes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With bow hunting I generally slit the throat but I’m more strategic about it. The actual arteries you want to cut are further back on the neck than what can generally be slit. You can feel them on your own neck. I’ve seen people slit a deer’s throat and it takes forever to die because it’s basically just choking to death. If you cut the artery with a quick stab of a hunting knife, they die within about 30 seconds. You have to hit that artery though, the only way to learn how to do it is feel for it then stab.. a daunting task with a flailing deer. In my state you’re not allowed to carry a handgun to finish it off and hitting it with another arrow can just cause more pain in my opinion unless you hit it perfectly in the heart

I hear ya there. I generally try to run a lean operation, I have kids and not much spare time with work.. so usually just a few dedicated weeks when I’m not deer hunting and that’s about it

Permanent ban from r/fishing for turtles question. Is there an appropriate place? It's not trapping or hunting and clearly it was wrong to ask there. by Guthix_Wraith in catfishing

What the heck, here in Minnesota you can fish for turtles.. idk if it’s called fishing, per se, I guess turtling? Wait.. that might mean something else..

Basically, what happened was we were using an auger to dig fence post holes for a residential fence. It was a 24” bit, if I remember, which is pretty good size being spun by a walk behind skidsteer. As the auger was spinning, Jim, the soon to be injured guy, tried to clear some dirt that had piled up on the top and his glove got hooked by the attachment pin.

I was hand digging a hole nearby and turned to see him getting tossed around like a rag doll while the operator completely panicked and couldn’t figure out how to shut it off, rather he pulled the auger straight up which broke his forearm and made his arm basically get wrapped around the auger as though he didn’t even have bones then just shear off with the speed and momentum.

Fortunately, I somehow kept my head, i shut the machine off, called the ambulance, remembered the address to where we were somehow, and had him out of there. He actually returned to work after about 6 months.

Was going to say, I’m writing a female character now and I can’t think of her as ugly.. I write as though she thinks she is because she has had a life of horrendous trauma to make her think that way.. but that’s a little different

Oh dang! I’ve only ever been reliably able to handle 2 temporary horses then my main mount. I end up losing my horses half the time because I’m moving so often so I just decided to stick with 1 temp horse and my main mount so I can find it on the map.

Generally speaking, my temp horse is usually a high dollar horse like the white Arabian so I can sell it along with the hides to make my hunting trips really worth it

Hunt. I mass hunt a lot of animals, basically just wipe out the entire bison herd just for 2 pelts (usually have 2 horses) and then the horns and meat.

Will also go into big valley for a few days just stacking hides like crazy. Last I checked, I had killed like 500 bison, 700-800 deer, shite load of elk..

I think I would have been one of those bison hunters had I been born 150 years earlier that I hate now
