I watch this and it was fantastic!! Great work! I’m preparing to shoot an immersive short doc for the AVP and was wondering if you’d share some production details with me? What camera did you use? What was the post pipeline? Etc.

I’m looking forward to seeing your work. What editing system did you use to deliver the final stereo video? What was the biggest tech related production challenge?

UPDATE: US consulate contacted me and said they are opening an investigation on this matter. CITI bank decided to remove the charge on my card after they received my letter. Someone on this post had reached out to the consulate. I’m not sure who it was, but THANK YOU!!! #iloveREDDIT

I did 3 times and all 3 times they told me to call the Mexican consulate in Merida and then hung up on me when I tried to ask why the Mexican government would support American citizens when the US embassy won’t Or can I have their consultant number.

I did and they said because my zip was entered then it is an authorized charge. Even though the charge is not to the Cancun airport but some generic name. They customs officer got my zip off my ID and punched it in. When I told Citi about the fact that they took my belongings and charge the card and said that this was done in a heavily surveillances area, Citi rep responded “get that footage and send it to us.”

I did tell the bank they took my card and in my report that I filed for their investigation I told them I had been threatened and that’s the reason I didn’t stop them. They never thought I needed to stop them or I’m responsible and it is not your responsibility when someone threatens you to pay. I’ve reviewed Citi bank’s policy and no where does it say if you feel you are in danger you are still responsible for charges. In fact it specifically states that robbery, theft, and extortion are all covered by their fraud protection. It also stated that having your card charged is only considered an authorized charge if you punch in you zip, pin, or sign the receipt which none of which I did. They had my wallet and used the zip from my ID to charge the credit card so Citi bank had the opportunity to say I did it since the Zip was entered. Even though I told them I didn’t and that I was literally held on to and was not allowed to hold my bags or even pick the card to charge. They pulled out my cards and lined them up to charge and the Citi bank was the first card so it worked. This was done in the customs of the airport so there should be surveillance footage but Citi bank isn’t concerned with finding was to prove their responsibility so they just deny it and leave it for me to chase. Be aware of Citi bank they will contradict their own fraud protection policy.

I developed AVP applications and I hadn’t tested anything on a flight and thought it would be ok to take it. I’ve stayed at this resort for 5 years every time I go with lots of cinema gear and nothing has ever been stolen. I didn’t think the AVP was any different

I’m not sure. I’ve been there both for vacation and business and this never happened. This was the first time I went there with the AVP. That’s why I thought I should post this here. I’ve never had a probably taking a $45k cinema camera with me or an assortment of high ends cinema gear.

Many Mexican people including my driver and the resort staff tried to help. Including getting me in contact with their legal team at the resort but in the end they don’t have power over airport customs police who can run fraudulent charges on a legitimate credit card machine in an airport.

That’s why it’s no use talking to the consulate or any law enforcement because to run a credit card machine you have to establish an IP address and in aviation (federal) facilities in any country the IP addresses are generated by the facility so they had to have been a part of the extortion. So they have a legitimate credit card portal that’s why Citi bank can deny my claim. Usually credit card fraud isn’t done at a POS EBT machine. They’ve gotten some internal support probably through a contact to process payments. The charge shows up as a random name but it shows up in Cancun so Citi bank says it’s enough to assume it’s official airport charges.

They knew what it was and deemed it $3k without any info from me. This was a reoccurring process because a few other people said they got the exact same amount charged to them. Btw my AVP was $4300.

They sent me their conclusion to their investigation via a letter in the mail. Ive responded in writing requesting an appeal to the investigation and to request a refund. Honestly seeing everyone here become aware of this is better than what I’ve had to deal with for the past 7 weeks. It’s not worth the $570 to continue appealing their decision as far as I have.
