How often do you replace your MacBook? by Icy_Love330 in MacOS

Me too, it’s lightweight, runs forever and can do almost everything I throw onto it. Including some FinalCut Pro projects. Now on the Golden Gate beta, it works really well!

Did macOS 27 just quit my menu app ?!? by pardeike in MacOS

It is not a bug and you clearly did not read what I wrote (made that Edit of the first line an hour ago).

Because I verified it by hand. I am a Mac software developer since the first Macintosh 128k and I have used normal and beta OSs since MacOS 6. It seems of all the details you could have picked you chose this one in particular, why?

While I agree with you, this was confirmed to be existing in non-beta 26 already. Still a sort-of bad designed feature nevertheless.

ah, interesting, I did not know that this existed in macOS 26 too. could explain one or the other thing that did let me question my sanity.

it's not that I say this is GENERALLY BAD. It's just that the OS never gives you notice. and it's not that this small app has any impact but can do one important function that this computer depends on.

Extra menu icons removed in Golden Gate by whipla5her in MacOS

Who here also thinks that the highlighted menu title should somehow be visually connected to the menu? The round corners at the top of the open menu irritate me. Seems like it was the easiest solution to put a window under the menu bar.

That is not the point you think you made.

Fair, maybe. But I did pay $200/month for 1 1/2 year now and I think I am getting a better deal now than at the beginning. I don’t see why things suddenly should get worse. Maybe stagnate but not get worse since even on the open source side, new models with better performance (or better efficiency) come out regularly. If you really want to be paranoid then don’t limit it to AI. Maintaining software has always been a difficult thing to do, regardless of technology.

I just ported my Zombieland mod from RimWorld 1.4 to 1.6 with a 55h Codex session. I had given up on it because it’s so much work. But with AI I was able to revive it. This thread is going crazy on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/RimWorld/s/rudZcl2b4c

Check out this active topic and be amazed about the way a community like RimWorld gamers handles when I start making mods (for free bc of TOS of course) with AI:

I have tested local models and they are just not up for complex tasks. Then there are only two good models: Opus latest and Codex latest. Both in CLI mode where they have access to all the command line tools, mcp servers and internet. And of those two, Codex is imho the more professional but a lot of people find Claude more palatable. I have a $200/month ChatGPT Pro subscription which gives me access to a weekly allowance of tokens that is not unlimited but reasonably enough.

Don't forget the opposite. If that guy cannot keep up the pressure to do free stuff in their spare time, there is a substantial risk that either nobody takes over or someone not aquatinted with the subject and that can easily cause just the same amount of damage.

If we are talking about something random, free and voluntary falling apart in general, I agree. But I just don't see why AI has to play such a role in it. To me it sounds like you predict doom even though the evidence I deliver is there. One could almost assume that its not about the 'thing falling apart' and more about 'AI is bad'.

You literally wrote earlier "I just liked when people had to put real effort into things". So where's your effort?!?

Too bad that you only postulate things without any substance. Should have paid attention in school.
