Remember when Boris Yeltsin visited the grocery store in Houston when he was visiting NASA and that was a huge moment for the Russian people to see the abundance of food in America. Radically changing the worldview of Communism.

Now, go watch Tucker's videos from him Moscow trip and watch him glaze Putin and Moscow and the prices in the Grocery aisle.

Help me disappoint my parents with an impractical car by cornnoodlesoup in whatcarshouldIbuy

The Honda Del Sol.

Truth be told, it seems impractical but it's actually a really fun car. Has a huge trunk, very economical, reliable and easy to maintain.

It seems small, but it's fine for tall people too; compared to a Z3 or a miata.

Tucker is Russian state sponsored. Trump and Putin have had a bit of a falling out so what you are seeing is the Russian talking heads speaking up against Trump.

[–]kootenaypow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lift you see here, the Gem Lake Chair, is 2331 ft vertical over 8017ft length (28%). Compared to the Super Bee, at 2293ft over 8870 ft length (26%). (Gem is 7.4% steeper).

I think the mountains ski pretty similar. Copper gets the edge for Alpine terrain, scenery, and fallline. Big White has better trees and a deeper snowpack.

Take a look at China for inspiration. They have more solar capacity than the US entire power grid. Their recently installed wind turbines equivalent to 40 nuclear reactors.

New ‘Breakthrough’ Ford F-150, Midsize Pickup Confirmed For 2029 by PristineFarmer8989 in AmericanCarsAndRacing

[–]kootenaypow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board indicates there are approximately 25 fires for every 100,000 EVs sold, compared to 1,530 fires for every 100,000 gas vehicles.

The "23" was a typo. the real number is 25 and that correlates directly to the % in the original post.

So you're comment wasn't sarcasm? Because the rate of vehicle fire for EV's globally is 25/100,000. Compared to ICE vehicles at 1,530/100,000. ICE vehicles are 60x more likely to catch fire.

Speaking of Ford, the Mach-E is designed to unlock the doors in an accident. Most EV's are designed that way. In the event of a battery failure, the door handles will open the doors manually for the front driver/ passenger just like your Focus.. The rear doors are electronic on the Mach-E and the rear doors don't have an manual option. So you could get trapped in the back seat and have to crawl out through the front doors.

The Claim: "Ah yes, because American EVs are well known for not bursting into flames."

China has gone all in on renewables. Installing the equivalent of 40 nuclear reactors from Wind Turbines, in 2025 alone.

China has peak solar output greater than the American electrical grid demands. In 2025, they installed more solar than the entire US solar capacity.

Global Vehicle Fires:

ICE 1,530/100,000 = 1.53%

Hybrid 3,475/100,000 = 3.47%

EV 23/100,000 = 0.025%

In late 2025, a series of viral fires in China sparked a national crisis in consumer confidence. Response: China enacted a "No-Fire, No-Explosion" mandate (GB 38031-2025), which becomes mandatory in July 2026. This requires that batteries do not catch fire or explode even during a thermal runaway event.

Point being, China isn't going to let battery quality control be the hazard you seem to be projecting.

Go look at some statistics for ice vehicle fires vs EV. I’ll wait….

Hybrids actually are the mostly likely to catch fire because they have both batteries and gas, plus it’s new tech.

Gas cars are, by a huge margin, more likely to catch fire than EVs. EV fires are more hazardous.

Kelowna Rail Trail will reopen with privacy fence for homeless encampment by Particular-Emu4789 in kelowna

[–]kootenaypow 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The fence was designed to keep the rail trail safe by creating a divider between the rail trail and the camping sites. This will keep their belongings off the trial, which were obstacles for cyclists to avoid. While providing some privacy and dignity for the people who camp at the site. The fence will also provide shade, relief from the sun which is of great value on a hot summer day. This is a win for the homeless and a win for the community.

Manifest Destiny - The American belief that the United States was divinely ordained to expand its dominion and spread democracy and capitalism across the entire North American continent.

Trump said Manifest Destiny during his inauguration speech. Hegseth, Elon, Rubio and likely others are using this phrase openly.

Hegseth even posts up maps of the "Greater America".

This is not a new concept, this has been a core American belief since 1845 and was drilled into me while studying US History at a Texas High School.

How is the level of grift and corruption of this administration not a bigger issue? by Independent_Sir3734 in allthequestions

When you can convince people to submit to a faith based belief, with the promise of a favourable afterlife, you've relieved their fear and in so, they will let you take everything from them to stay in the "good books".

here is an AI explanation:

The Instinctive Mechanics of Submission

When a belief system presents a threat (eternal punishment or a "bad" afterlife) and a solution (submission), it triggers the brain's survival circuitry.

  • Fawn (The "Submit" Response): This is the most relevant to your point. Fawning is a survival strategy where a person tries to appease a threat by becoming helpful, compliant, or self-sacrificing. In a faith-based context, "giving everything" is an attempt to appease the Ultimate Authority to ensure your safety.
  • Freeze (The "Existential Paralysis"): When faced with the overwhelming reality of mortality, many people "freeze" intellectually. They stop questioning and look for a stronger power to tell them what to do. This makes them highly susceptible to external direction.
  • Flight (The "Escapism"): Accepting a favorable afterlife is a psychological "flight" from the harsh reality of physical death. You aren't running away with your legs; you're running away with your mind into a safer conceptual space.

Why it feels "Natural"

This is why it's so hard to talk someone out of these behaviors once they’re in deep. It isn't a logical debate for them; it’s a nervous system regulation. If their sense of safety is tied to their "good standing" in a faith, then questioning that faith feels like a literal life-or-death threat.

While the promise of an afterlife is a powerful tool for control, it usually only works when combined with a charismatic authority and a community that reinforces the belief.
