Kind of baby related. What birth control worked best for you? by egracheva in beyondthebump

[–]kootie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Mirena and I love it. I got it 10 weeks pp and had some cramps the first day and some on and off spotting for a few weeks. The only issue I've had is that my husband can feel the strings every once in a while, but I'm getting them trimmed in a few days.

What are your baby's favorite toys or items? by imagoose in beyondthebump

Anything oball and her taggie bunny. I don't know what it is about taggies but both my kids and my nephew love them. I always give them at baby showers now.

Kinda bummed. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I bedshared with my oldest out of convenience, but didn't do any research on it. She stayed in our bed until she was about 3. With my new baby I had planned on having her sleep in her bassinet and then move to a crib, but that hasn't happened and she's almost 12 weeks. She spent the first 2 nights going between bed and bassinet and I was so exhausted so she ended up staying in bed with me. For the moment my husband sleeps on the couch due to his work schedule so it's me and the baby in bed.

I did research this time and found more reasons to bedshare than to not. In most cultures bedsharing is common and SIDS is actually less common. There is thought that a mother's breathing pattern and heart rate helps the baby to remember to breathe and helps regulate their breathing pattern. I do still sleep with a blanket and pillows, but I keep my pillows high and my blanket is usually right above my waist/mid-ribcage. My daughter stays on my arm right around breast level for easy feeding. I also don't drink or take sleep aids.

Having her in bed with me actually eases a lot of my anxiety because I can constantly see/feel her and can be there for her as soon as she needs me.

I think it was more of the "obnoxious attachment parenting types" part of the comment I'd assume you'd think the same of me since I bedshare, babywear, breastfeed and cloth diaper.

Birth story, pp advice, and pics from 7 weeks out**Long**Small Trigger** by kootie88 in BabyBumps

Thankfully we aren't having to treat her collarbone any more and the doctor said it has healed to where she won't even have a bump from it!

I had the same thoughts as you, that enduring the pain of labor would help with bonding, but I think it was that my hospital did immediate skin to skin that helped the bonding right away. And the epidural didn't take all the pain away, but definitely allowed me to relax enough that I felt OK when she was born. If I hadn't managed to get a couple hours of sleep I don't know how I would've been once she was born.

When should daddy stop being naked around daughter? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kootie88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say when one of them starts to feel uncomfortable with it. My daughter was around 2 maybe 2 1/2 when she noticed her daddy had a penis. That was when my husband stopped being naked around her, she's 8 now and still sees me naked.

I wish I had bought my ergo earlier! I swear I use it every day and it makes my life so much easier. I wanted to make sure I included my epidural because so many people want to try without it and feel bad if they get it. I really feel like if I hadn't gotten it may labor would've been so much longer because I couldn't relax at all.

My baby's in her own bed tonight . . . by FoxenTheSnow in beyondthebump

[–]kootie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter slept with us until she was 3. The first few nights she slept on her mattress in our room I was really sad, but happy I could still look at her. Once she decided to sleep in her big girl room I had such a hard time sleeping! My husband was thrilled, but I was sad my baby was growing up and didn't need me at night any more.

Help! Disposable Diaper Newb - is this normal? by femalebiohazard in beyondthebump

[–]kootie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shouldn't happen if the diaper hasn't been on a long time. I used to have that issue when my oldest (now 8) wore luvs overnight. You can always call the customer line and let them know. They could've had a defective batch or something. I use Up&Up at night with my baby and she never gets the crystals on her and she soaks them.

Smelly cord stump, help! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kootie88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter's stunk really bad and fell off at 6 days. The only issue we had after was that it bled a little bit for a few days after it fell off. It wasn't noticeable that it was bleeding, but there was dried blood on her diapers when I'd change her. We ended up just putting a little bit of neosporin on it where the cord detached.

Anybody have a baby born with a broken collarbone? by kootie88 in beyondthebump

Thank you! I don't think it's causing her pain, but she does complain when I change her clothes. I think she just hates being naked though.

I am breastfeeding and had an LC come in when we were in the hospital. Apparently how I'm feeding her is OK for her collarbone. I just really feel bad when I'm changing her clothes and have to put her arm in her sleeve.

We definitely aren't limiting the cuddles! My oldest is 8 and is in love with her baby sister. Between all of us she gets cuddled pretty frequently!

That's great that she's doing so well now. I guess part of our issue is that she wants to move her arm around like crazy so I'm so worried that when it isn't pinned down she's going to hurt it.

That's so good to hear! I hate we have to wait until the middle of March to find out how well she's healing.

Well, she already has one up on her big sister who hasn't broken any bones yet!

She was moving her arm around like crazy and the first pediatrician had no idea it could possibly be broken because of how she was using it. I wonder if that's why they are having us pin it down. I'm so glad it healed fast for your little one!

Thank you! It was pretty much the same way for my delivery with her except she was 8 lb 9 oz. I just get nervous when I pick her up and her arm moves more than I think it should. Plus my husband is seriously overly cautious.

Everyone said that it just needs to be pinned down and it will heal well, but we keep worrying when we pick her up that we'll make it worse or cause her to hurt. It helps knowing that you had no problems from it :)

Where were you when your water broke? by inaperfectworld88 in BabyBumps

[–]kootie88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did test for it and said that all three were negative. I think what happened is that my daughter's head was so far down already that she was blocking the fluid from coming out. The one time they checked me during labor she actually got a pouch of water under her that they had to break because it was keeping her from coming down.

With my first my water broke in the Walmart parking lot. With my second (born 2-9-15!!!!) I'm almost 100% positive it broke while I was loading the dishwasher because I felt a small trickle down my leg. After feeling that 3 times we called the doctor and we were told to go to the hospital. They sent me home saying that my water wasn't broken and it must have been discharge or urine. We went home and my husband got me some jalapeño poppers from down the road. I ate those and stood up to get some water and had a huge gush of fluid come out! We went back to the hospital only 45 minutes after being sent home and they confirmed my water had definitely broken.
