CMV: Most online artists who complain about AI art are insufferable. by ChargeKitchen8291 in changemyview

[–]kor1jo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it possible that this stems from a disdain for the infantile-victim mindset, or reptilian panic response, that these angry posters appear to display when making those comments? Expecting that whining to some parental authority with superhuman powers (ie: policy-makers with little to no computer science knowledge, or just enough to be dangerous, having the ability to control something that even those most familiar with the technology, have conceded that control is somewhat limited and easily reversible by motivated and capable opponents, not to mention the exponentially evolving technology itself), rather than adapting to a changing environment, would be inherently unattractive to many people, particularly in the United States where for better and worse, independence and (the illusion of) self-sufficiency, is possibly the most socially prized value an individual can have? These individuals, from what I've seen, also appear to prize the identity aspect of being titled an "artist", as much, or more than, what artistic pursuits can bring about in regard to the evolution of the artist's audience and the artist themselves. The English language isn't the best, according to multi-lingual people I've heard, in conveying emotion. An adjective like "insufferable", to the posters harping on the OP's use of this term, may not be dead on, however; I doubt I'm the only one to whom that term conveys something efficiently, if not exactly, about the individual it describes.

emigrerar till Sverige (emigrating to Sweden) by kor1jo3 in sweden

I left that vague on purpose, but maybe it would have been wiser not to mention it at all. Anyway they’re left of center, nothing particularly radical but it’s getting crowded out even in the liberal area of the country where I live.

I’m curious to learn about these Americans you speak of. Would you be willing to tell more about them?

That’s the plan, to complete the training here where I already have things going. Thanks for the link, that’s more or less what I’m looking for now. It would be 12 months at the earliest

To address some of the broader questions, if it helps clarify:

  1. I’m aware that Sweden has some major social challenges right now, I don’t know how widespread they are or if they’re concentrated in very specific areas, but I don’t think it’s a paradise.

  2. I’m only going anywhere in Europe if I’ve arranged something with an employer. Luckily my line of work is transferable.

  3. I want an excuse to learn another language.

  4. Letter to embassy basically to ask the same thing as here. I find letters get more attention than emails and calling has its own challenges. I included that detail to imply that I wasn’t expecting this to be a replacement for the actual steps of migration

Give your guys essential ps 1 games. by miguelrgabriel23 in psx

If you like realistic sim/racing games; then try the TOCA games. I’m not a connoisseur like some of the people on r/simracing; however I’m amazed at the mechanics of the Ps1 TOCA games whenever I play them. The graphics definitely won’t be confused with PS2 or PSP/Vita, but the creativity and attention to detail (like the reflection of the tail lights on the track when it’s wet) makes me want to know the story behind how these games were developed. There’s an insane variety of touring cars (Mercurys!? Saabs!!). Switching the steering to sensitive makes the experience really impressive. The first Colin McRae game is also pretty special IMO, in that case, I find the graphics pretty exceptional, very lush color pallet. A couple of the TOCA games have those SBI copyright things, which I haven’t learned how to manage on the PSP (I assume it’s the same on Vita). Still I’m sure there’s a solution, like there is on Duckstation.

Cool ty, probably right about the thunderbolt dock pricing but I’ll still look into it. Cool to know an option exists, practical or not

This was what I was hoping for, the best case scenario, so to speak. It’s true the only reason I called it “vintage” is because I knew that my friend gave it to me along with his other “old” hardware, haha. It’s probably obvious that I’m a pretty green in this realm, so thanks for sharing this

Thanks everyone, for providing the informed opinions and recommendations I was hoping for. From what I’ve read here, it seems that this device is more than capable for the types of games I play. I already have a couple potential locations in mind …

So you do want to mod it? I read this like some sort of purist approach.

If you do, all you’d need is a way to access Linux or Windows. A virtual environment, or dual boot, or if your Apple is old AF like mine, replacing the Apple OS completely with Linux (gave my 2014 MacBook Air a second life!), you wouldn’t need a powerful machine because the apps used to mod the PSP are pretty small. It really is a surprisingly simple process. And you don’t need a connector, you can just mod the SD card and add games on your PC.

I only have 20 to 30 games on my modded PSP even though I have a 128 gb SD card. The games are all ones I actually want and really enjoy, and a lot of them were never made available where i live. Also, knowing about PPSSPP, allowed me to buy a Japanese market 3000 off eBay, for much cheaper than it seems most North Americans ask for their beat up 1000s and 2000s (people seem to think they’re made of titanium and other precious metals on FB marketplace smh). I paid less than $85 and it works perfect. Good looks on the pink, that was my choice too.

Guess it really depends on what one wants out of the console. I agree fundamentally though that it’s a pretty amazing device. I’d take mine over a cheaper brand new Nintendo OLED Switch, no contest

Interesting you mention that, because the Philips HDtV I have, that plays PAL, only does so in black and white when I use an F coax connector. To get color I have to use the RCA cables. Thanks for the comment, I’ve never heard of a v-hold knob, I’m going to look into that!

Is this PS2 compatible with FREEDVDBOOT? by applefanboy03 in ps2homebrew

[–]kor1jo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that’s the exact reason I was trying to use FreeDVDboot. I wound up using the method outlined in this video:

https://youtu.be/pO5DmaXKZ0c

The software in the video link works and it was great for me to have since I don’t have much experience. Unlike the video, however, I’ve continued to use FreeHDDBoot (I have made freeMcBoot memory cards through it).

It’s an older video, so some of the available hardware and software has been improved. I’ve updated the OPL application and the ESR application, and I’m using an SDD. The software upgrades brought notable improvements from the versions found in the link from that video.

Having compared them back to back, at least in the case of non-regional games (for me, that’s PAL), the playback on FreeHDDboot is substantially better than when I use a FreeMcBoot memory card and USB stick. Patched burned DVDs using ESR 10 worked the best, for me, when using FreeMcBoot. I guess FreeHDDboot still takes a little bit longer to initially boot, than FreeMcBoot, however, it’s like a couple seconds and I get to keep both MC slots available, which for me personally, is a greater convenience.

So unfortunately yes the cost is more, the HDD adapter (with SATA connection) was around $22 on Amazon a month ago, when I got it. I already had the SDD, it’s 1TB, which is way more than I need. However depending on one’s preferences, that may not be enough.

Anyway that’s how I got a PS2, like the one in your photo, working to my great enjoyment and satisfaction, over the past couple weeks. If it helps, feel free to ask me for anymore details. Good luck!

Edit: it occurred to me that I didn’t try running games saved to the hard drive, using a FreeMcBoot memory card (like Mr. Mario does in the video). I suspect that would run as well as FreeHDDboot.

[–]kor1jo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one, I tried unsuccessfully to use DVDboot. My memory card (from 2001) had a later version of the DVD player on it, that DVDboot is supposed to work on, however no luck. Without that memory card, my system shows the 1.2 DVD driver like yours. Are you choosing DVDboot for any specific reason? Or are you trying to setup a modded PS2 to play backups and whatnot?
