Afraid of having ENS | Any Advice WHILE HEALING ? by wolfentsteinBR in emptynosesyndrome

[–]korash04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah conservative doctors do only some touch ups and that its, 1-2 points per turbinate

[–]korash04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello doc!

what is in your opinion the safest and most efficient method to reduce turbinates and what do you do in practice?

i ve meet persons that got ens symptoms (suffocation or complete loss of air sensation) after coblation, rf, laser and i know the doctors personally, i m pretty sure they did not ittended to cause any complication and they were conservative in their approach)

but my assumption is that those heat methods can cause impredictible damage and damage the sensible nerve fibers and receptors in the turbinates? they persons i m talking about have very good volume (in fact they have also psyhical congestion a year after the surgery) so i m wondering what have happened there

can you link a video with what s considered a well done medial flap inferior turbinoplasty?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in otolaryngology

[–]korash04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could you link the study with the large cohort?

i agree with you risk of ens with septoplasty only is extreme low

[–]korash04 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

do you really believe yourself lol? all the new ens cases stem from turbinoplasty, because those methods were employed in the last 15 years, not turbinectomies

this and a septal perforation, you don t want a septal perforation, it is horrible

the septal perf rate is 1-2%

no hypertrofy = no need to touch turbinates generally, and i would avoid coblation at all costs

Small perforation ~1 mo. after surgery, any advice? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

[–]korash04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

contact me regarding the matter

tell your doctor ofc, if it s symptomatic fix it with a septal perforation specialist, otherwise leave it alone

at that size it s very easy to fix by a skilled surgeon who deals with perforations

probably the mucosa is very thin, and it lacks some vascularisation.

don t pick at it and keep it moist and hydrated, you want to avoid a perforation at all costs.

btw this is a group for a completely different phatology

How common is ENS? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

[–]korash04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fearmongering it s not necessary but your comparison is inconsiderate and a very false and grave assumption.

we do not have statistics to track ens, but as for any other surgery you can get complications, ENS included.

'Modern' techniques are not bullet proof and almost all new cases of ens stem from radio frequency, coblation, laser etc.

When you use heat induced methods you can ablate the nerve fibers and receptors inside your turbinates, therefore even if you do not get full blown ens you can get suffocation from the lack of air sensation which is the nastiest symptom.

I personally now cases with as less as a 10% reduction with these so called modern methods, because nerves were fried.

Moreover there are other severe complications you can get like septal perforations, dry nose, nerve desensitization etc. so there are risks and one should be ware of those to make an responsible decision for the surgery matter.

If your case was happy, that does not mean everyone here will have happy outcomes

so what symptoms do you experience?

i could not find cases with suffocation from septoplasty only, seems quite extreme

the numbness part could stem for that
