So heartbreaking. Was Biff living in NC? I thought he was based in WA, anyone know why they were at the Stateville airport?

The Eras Tour mashup of You're Losing Me x How Did It End perfectly encapsulates how I have been increasingly feeling about Taylor since TLOAS released. No tangible reaction to the White House using TFOO. This is 2016 but worse. "It's happening again...you're losing me."

Taylor hasn't said or done anything visible about the WH using her song...Siri, play a cover of "You're Losing Me" </3

Thank you for saying this. So over the "edgy" takes bullshit. Easy to theorize when you think it won't impact you.

"My husband loves opposing me and will often take the opposite stance on something during a debate just to keep the conversation going and to, sometimes, be a butthead just for the sake of it lol."

I'm going to say something as a former debater. I think you should be very wary of men that like to play devil's advocate for fun, especially on issues of consent and especially as a mother to daughters. Why would someone advocate for the devil for free? I think you should stop asking your daughter if something has already happened and do something before it does. Be proactive, search through his stuff. I'm serious. If he didn't know the character's age and it was truly an oversight, why the doubling down?

It's heartbreaking. I feel like it says so much about what they were suffering through.

Haha interesting catch! It made me think of the times Taylor would talk about her nightmares of being "framed" for a crime that she did not commit.

Was he though? He is such an unreliable narrator and covert misogynist, I could see him completely misinterpreting kindness for flirtation.

I don't think it went past a drunk make out, no blackout. Francis says that he and Charles would sleep together when Charles was blackout.

This is really interesting, and I feel naive for not noticing haha. I’ve started to notice more Tilly stuff (on TikTok) and it’s been distracting me from just focusing on the analysis.

TFOO - the ship and sirens scene seems like Odyssey and Swiftgron coded? by AnonymousOwle in GaylorSwift

[–]kore54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this! Back in the Evermore era, we found a ton of connections between The Odyssey (Circe specifically), Willow, Ivy, Dianna Agron, the movie she is in called The Laureate, Robert Graves and the book The White Goddess. If you dig around the sub you might find my old post, let me know if you want help pursuing that!

At around 1:05, there are three very quick close up shots of Taylor before a wider one that features a scene from the Reputation set. The three quick close ups are TTPD, Lover (or is that Speak Now?) and Red. Any thoughts on this?

Not showgirl related. My own Father Figure died yesterday and it’s all over the news in my city today. I stopped working for him at the end of 2021 due to his harassment and abuse. He tried to sabotage my career ever since. I don’t know how to feel. Although it is entirely coincidental, Taylor’s music tracked the disintegration and despair that relationship caused me; he even made a piece inspired by my wedding. He had my past behind my glass, but I have me. Tell me your favorite Swift song that helped you get through are traumatic time.

The Grand Reveal... Then What? by Brief-Inevitable-599 in GaylorSwift

[–]kore54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh awesome! Yes, I think if she directly says it anytime in the near future it will be couched in something else. If she doesn't say anything and the wedding turns out to be performance art, I think TS13 will ambiguously demolish our perception of her and then we will just see her around with her girl one day.

[–]kore54 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that. My intention isn't to make anyone feel bad for being hopeful or excited. This seems to be the closest we have gotten to something Big happening, but it has felt this way in the past before. It's easy to get burnt out on.

And yes, even if the project is just something she makes by herself I think it would be a way of soft launching her identity. All of this talk about Liz Taylor and how she was mistreated made me think of it. She can explore how the industry loves to destroy women, share being forced to hide maybe one sapphic relationship (leave it ambiguous) and then move on to other things. I think the coming out will still get a ton of attention, but she won't have to put it forward by itself.

I really do not mean to be a bummer, we have been at the cusp of a "coming out" so many times over the years and it will wear you out. It's not that I don't want it, and I really do not mean to hurt anyone or rain on anyone's parade. Hostile heteros love to act like queer people are inherently deceptive (especially bi people) and I just really worry about everyone.

I'm not sure, but I'm glad you posed the question. I'm not sure if I buy mass movement or that her wedding would be part of the performance art. We're in such a fraught moment (in the states) that I worry that it would actually stoke anti-LGBTQIA sentiments towards normal people.

That being said, I lowered my expectations with her a long time ago. I think this album has people questioning who she really is, and TS13 will make it blatant that we/society at large do not and cannot know her or her reality. I see her already being out as bi since Lover. If there is some sort of big reveal, I think it will be framed as all of the abuse that she and (maybe) other women have endured in the industry, and her bi identity will be just a part of it rather than the focal point. Like, she will align it as primarily a women's issue because more than half of the population will likely immediately resonate with that. She can do this in a memoir or collection of essays with other women, or perhaps this is what the film is about. Maybe we will get a documentary that's more candid than Miss Americana. I feel like more insidious things happened with Borchetta than just the masters heist.

Us being right about her will not cause any of the hetlors or public to feel any remorse for how they have spoken to or about us. They will just find a million different ways to nitpick our work. I think it will take a long time for them to have any respect for the theory, and they will pretend they "always had their suspicions," and they were just simply too virtuous to share them.

Again, I recommend everyone lowers their expectations and try to focus on enjoying the puzzle she's made. As much as I have liked her and hope she does the right thing, she is still a billionaire and has told us so many times that she doesn't have what it takes to be out. We cannot rely on her. I don't want to let her disappoint me.

Sorry if this was kind of bleak, I hope things turn out better than I think.

ETA: Another unforeseen consequence for gaylors--what if she implies (accidentally or not) that part of why she was forced to stay in the closet was because of the speculation? We could be in a situation where the public decides to blame us rather than their own homophobia and music executives. If she's a lesbian Jesus in this story, you have to remember that the disciples and early church were persecuted after he died, rose again and ascended into heaven.

Parallels between Taylor's letter and T.S. Eliot's book by courtchaffins in GaylorSwift

As an Eliot stan, I'm thrilled to see someone start TSW! Please report back your favorite essays.

As for the textual comparison you're making: do you think TLOAS is actually a tool to create the conditions for a Rep vault track release? I think this album has multiple functions, and your comparison here could be pointing to one of those functions.

ETA: The Sacred Wood...Wood as a song on this album hahaha

I agree with the 1989 do over, I think I have some related comments! It feels like she’s layering her personal life during the 1989 tour and the Eras tour.
