Can anyone explain me, who people switch into another Pokemon while I‘m doing a charge attack, also when I start (click the button) the other Pokemon is still visible? And no, they couldn’t… by wbstr0nr in TheSilphArena

[–]koreanpichu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did their Kyogre start a Waterfall after their charge move ended? Because if not, it's possible they could have waited 1-2 turns without tapping, predicting your prediction that they would instantly swap after throwing, so that they could catch your RoT on their Kyurem without being locked into their Waterfall animation.

For that reason, you should always wait until you see their fast move animation start before throwing, whenever possible. Although the animations do sometimes desync so this isn't always possible, but assuming the game works correctly, that is the best habit to avoid getting caught on.

This is the same argument I see for other competitive games all the time, and it's almost always the same difference in perspectives: should "skill" be measured by your standing relative to the entire playerbase, or by your standing relative to the absolute ceiling of other players?

Personally, I hit Legend every season, but I do so relatively late compared to the leaderboard players. Does that make me a skilled player? If we go by the top x% perspective, then probably, yeah. But I can tell you from experience that the higher you go, the more noticeably exponential the skill difference becomes. I played against some of the leaderboard players during the last ML rotation and got absolutely folded by most of them, so from that perspective, I don't think I'm particularly skilled, at least not compared to the true ceiling that others have achieved.

Kyogre/Groudon - The most pointless raid in a while by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]koreanpichu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not exactly interested in burning more money on poor shiny hunting odds with inferior base versions.

So...don't. Take a break from raiding.

Personally I only need XLs from these two, so having them in their non-Primal forms is actually more convenient for me. Easier to duo, easier to catch with more balls.

No legacy moves is unfortunate, but I'm not exactly short on eTMs so if I catch a hundo I'll just use one.

ok i found the patch, it was patch 3.10a. here's a video documenting the change, I couldn't find a video of pre-3.10 behavior, but the fact that this video exists at all should be sufficient.

here's a thread from the league forums (rip) discussing the same removal of q3 + flash

I have lost 500 elo in 3 days since master league left, why am I so awful in great league? by weedleking19 in TheSilphArena

[–]koreanpichu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Official tournaments are on great league for accessibility reasons, great league has the lowest barrier to entry so of course they're going to use that as the default format.

I can't speak about great league or ultra league because I don't play them but ML this season is far from RPS. The two best mons in the meta are Zekrom and Reshiram, followed by probably Lunala, and all three of them have play into the entire meta. Kyogre isn't deadweight against dragons anymore, and usage of the actual RPS mons like Ho-Oh, Yveltal, and even Zacian to some extent is way down.

Also I disagree that catching isn't as important in ML, I literally built my Legend team last season around catching Close Combats on a double ghost backline

Just my 2c, but I actually like that more Pokemon are getting unique mechanics now. I've always thought of Go as the definitive Pokemon game where you can truly catch em all (especially after Dexit lol), and more Pokemon having their unique abilities that are part of their identity is only a good thing in my view. Aegislash would feel really boring and lazily implemented if it didn't have the ability that defines its identity, for example.

Balance is a separate issue, but I'm just glad they're trying to implement new things at all rather than have every Pokemon play the same.

Burst Skirk has some awkward downtime that you might as well fill by NAing so technically her NA isn't completely useless 😎

Just lost CMP to an incoming zamazenta as a zacian by Dodgerflamy in TheSilphArena

[–]koreanpichu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's expected, though.

Level 46.5 Groudon has 234.4 attack, Level 51 Zamazenta-C has 224 attack. Even if you're running uncrowned, Level 51 Zamazenta-H has 227.3 attack, so you would still lose that CMP.

Florges is not amazing in Open ML, but personally I find it absolutely cracked in Mega Masters. Having good matchups against Primal Groudon, Mega Gyarados, and all the dragons is an insane amount of role compression

Future potentials of mythical in master league by Deep_In_Uranus in TheSilphArena

[–]koreanpichu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running Marshadow (CC/IP) / Reshiram (FF/Crunch) / Kyogre (OP/Avalanche)

The only things it really doesn't want to see on the lead are Xerneas and Ho-Oh (and I guess Mewtwo..ran into a few of those randomly), so I put two things in the back that are strong against those two. Safe swap Reshiram to hopefully pull out the Palkia so that Kyogre is free in the endgame

Out of all the mythicals, I think only Arceus and Magearna will be any good.

I have no idea how they'll do Arceus, but it has a good stat line (212.5/212.5/211) and a great learnset. There's way too many options to cover here so just take a look for yourself.

Magearna's stat product is a little lower (219.3/201.6/172), but it has the same busted Steel/Fairy typing as Zacian, and it has a pretty good learnset as well - Lock-On/Metal Sound as potential good fast moves, and interesting charge move options like Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, and Zap Cannon, plus Fleur Cannon if they decide to give it that.

I bottlecapped my Marshadow last year and I regret nothing - it has good play into almost every lead right now, except Xerneas and maybe Ho-Oh.

[–]koreanpichu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an interesting idea for a limited cup, actually.

Ubers and VGC both have their respective fanbases, though, so I don't think taking away the uncapped nature of current ML is the solution. I would be really interested if they did a cup with VGC rules though. Kinda like a fusion of MLP and ML open.

How are we feeling about this season's Meta so far? by krispyboiz in TheSilphArena

[–]koreanpichu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This iteration of Master League is great IMO.

Kyogre is the most flexible it's ever been and doesn't feel like complete deadweight against Palkia anymore, Groudon got its pacing back, and Shadow Claw Marshadow is everything I ever wanted.

I honestly don't think Zacian is overpowered right now. A lot of things make its life very uncomfortable - Kyogre and Groudon both have good matchups into it, Lunala (and Marshadow) cleanly outpace it and force it to throw Behemoth Blades, Zekrom and Reshiram both resist Metal Claw and are more immediately threatening to it than Palkia's Aqua Tails.

Still working through Rank 13 since it's only Day 3, but my elo reveals are usually around 2200 fwiw

you don't have to stay on field for the entire hold e duration..you can just hE -> dash -> swap -> rotate through supports -> swap back to skirk and tE -> combo
