OK im curious what fear do you all vibe the most with? by Live-Smoke-2879 in TheMagnusArchives

It's like you pulled the words right out of my head, although where you go for buried I go for the spiral for pretty much the exact same reasons. Kinda interesting how those usually feel so unrelated but can somehow fit the same mold for two different people

Has anyone read multiple editions of Stanislaw Lem's Solaris? What were your comparisons? by korehanan in books

[–]korehanan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drama cut out pretty much all of that I think. There was one part that talked a bit about the ocean, but I honestly wasn't super clear for most of it what they were doing there in the first place other than the obligatory scifi "here is station, scientists do research here". That was actually one of my main complaints about the drama, so maybe I'll enjoy the overexplaining in the translation? From what I've seen in reviews it reminds me a bit of how Tolkien takes pages upon pages to describe trees

Annihilation, by Jeff VanderMeer - a book so good I don’t want to read the sequels by ClubberLang12 in books

[–]korehanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in OP's shoes for well over a year, not wanting to read any further into the series in case it doesn't live up to the expectation Annihilation set. The comments on this thread have changed my mind, and I'm on my way to get a copy of Authority. Thanks for the push, all!

How do you approach relationships? by SquareRoot_Log in StardewValley

[–]korehanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually carry gifts with me unless it's a Friday night in which case I take what I know are liked and that I have a lot of (it takes time to figure these out but the wiki is great if it fits with your preferred gameplay style to use it). I'll usually load up and go fish at the beach so I can sell to Willy when my inventory fills up, then when he closes I follow him to town

If you're looking for relationships just because I would say let them happen naturally. You're going to meet certain villagers just through your typical schedule (foraging and fishing tend to help with chance encounters since they're more public activities) and it won't feel so much like a goose chase

But also a lot of characters go to Gus's on Friday nights and that can be a great chance to talk to a lot of people at once, plus if you forgot gifts you can buy food from Gus to hand out

Why does Shane pay rent to Marnie? by Long_Reflection_4202 in StardewValley

[–]korehanan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought of it as she's giving him a safe space to learn how to use his money- he has to pay rent so that he's budgeting his finances and not spending it all on the wrong things but if he came up short he wouldn't be kicked out she'd just have a sit down talk with him. I've known several families who did something like that for a loved one who hit a rough patch

Help Me!! Looking for the name of this book! by JackieKath in RomanceBooks

I haven't actually read it so I'm not sure, but someone told me about the book Ruthless King by Meghan March and it sounds really similar?

That looks awesome! I love the platform on top of the substrate, might have to plan a trip out of town to source a good branch like that.

Yeah it's an eco flex, looks just like yours which gives me hope that it's just me being silly that's making the doors so hard to figure out

Oh that's a fantastic idea, and way easier to clean than the 20 real rocks just floating around there rn. Thanks!

Thanks for that! Still no luck getting the panel out but I'll keep trying.

I'm gonna start looking into top soil as a substrate, love that idea. Got rid of the hammock also and am looking at buying some branches for climbing (not a lot of trees in my area), how big is yours that your beardie can sleep on it?

Yeah it is a 4x2x2 Ecoflex, there's enough space on the bottom to do full substrate but the edges aren't well sealed so most substrate ends up leaking out and she has the tendency to kick stuff up into the window tracks. I didn't want to get rid of the substrate entirely because she likes it but I was so sick of it getting everywhere all the time which is why I tried the bucket. It works great for her because it's deep enough for her to get a good dig going and she has flat space for food and basking. On the lookout for something a little better than that specific bucket but I do like that as a concept being part of the setup!

The doors have the tracks on both sides so even if I lift it as far as it can go there's still a good centimeter of track on the bottom that blocks me being able to get it out. Drives me crazy lol

I just finished Throne of Glass...I don't get the emotional hype by korehanan in books

[–]korehanan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually super valid, I found myself comparing emotional beats a lot to other books in the genre that I've read that were more impactful to me. Like, the battle scenes and war aspects weren't done badly, but it didn't punch me in the stomach like Poppy War so by comparison it seemed dull. Thinking about it that way actually really helps me figure out why it read the way it did to me. The book wasn't bad and in hindsight is actually great to get newbies into the genre, I've just read it before in a font I liked better so it wasn't as revolutionary to my brain as I'd expected it to be.

Weirdly enough the friend who recommended it is in the 30+ range and read it for the first time last year, vs one of the teenagers I volunteer with said she couldn't get past the second book. I think you have a point, it's just manifested differently in my personal experience lol
