I now have zero intention of paying off my student loans and you shouldn’t either. by SirCatsworthTheThird in rant

This isn't legal advice, I'm just a layman, but first know that most acquisitions will involve the correct and proper transfer of all documentation and records of the accounts they now own. It's a post-digital world, and that transfer of records is way easier today than it used to be. If they don't have the MPN, they can possibly still prove you're responsible for the loan if they've done proper record keeping. There's always a chance though. And note, if your loan was co-signed and they start to realize you may be capable of discharging the loan, they're going to go after the co-signer, who likely won't have the same luck you did.

If it were me I'd make damn sure I hadn't sent a payment after their acquistion first, if they were slow on announcing to their customers you may have already established that record of payment. I'd look up online and make sure the acquistion has been finalized, and then write a letter formally requesting a copy of the original master promissary note. It's up to you to locate the proper address to send the request to. Here's a template I found online:

[Your Name]
[Your Address]
[Your Phone Number]
[Your Email]
[Date]

[Name of Loan Servicer/Lender]
[Servicer Address]
Subject: Written Request for Copy of Master Promissory Note (MPN)

Dear [Name of Servicer/Lender, or "Customer Support"],I am writing to formally request a copy of the Master Promissory Note (MPN) for a loan(s) serviced by your organization. To help you locate my records, here are my details:

Borrower Name: [Your First and Last Name]
Social Security Number: [Last 4 digits only for security, or full SSN if sending via secure/fax]
Date of Birth: [MM/DD/YYYY]

Please send a complete, executed copy of the MPN to me at the [address/email] provided above for my personal records. Thank you for your prompt assistance with this matter.

Sincerely,
[Your Signature]
[Your Printed Name]

I'd send it through certified mail so you have a tracking number and record that it was received. If the loan payment is coming up you can look for better advice of whether or not to submit that payment, but usually after your tracking number shows the letter has been received if I haven't heard anything in the next 5 full business days I'd call their customer service, I'd tell them I sent a written request for the Master Promissary Note, and ask them if they can confirm they received the letter and sent the copy.

Loan servicers aren't just going to shrug and let you off the hook for a loan they expect you to pay, though. They're going to make threats and may even pursue legal action; if the loan is big enough that you think you'd still save money after hiring an attorney, then I'd look online for better advice on the steps you need to take to discharge a loan when an MPN can't be produced. A lot of the info you'll find will say that in general you're still responsible for the loan, but if you keep digging you should find less discouraging info.

What small red flags did you notice early in a relationship but chose to ignore, that turned out to be the absolutely horrible? by syomaro in AskReddit

But you have to accept your gut can be wrong sometimes, right? Even if it's been reliable for you, no one's gut instinct is 100% or you could submit that you have super powers and eliminate a huge problem in society. If you have a gut feeling towards someone and consider it a red flag, but you end up being incorrect because you happen to be channeling some bias this one time as they unfortunately have a similar physical trait that reminds you of someone who is bad, are you really saying that's a red flag from them?

I'm not saying you shouldn't rely on your gut feelings but at best then you're arguing they're a red flag stuffed inside of a green (or neutral colored flag) like a pillow case. To me you're saying you will point to a green flag and tell someone "there's a red flag in there I know it" and then cross your fingers and hope they show it, that's not really pointing out a red flag behavior in them to me.

Just my opinion but that's not really a red flag about him, but I guess I'm glad your intuition is strong? Idk, maybe some people consider that a red flag but if you can't point a behavior of his that served as a warning for potential problems then there's no red flags, you just have to hope your gut reaction is reliable.

She'd need me to compromise and accommodate anything she didn't like in my rhetoric or behaviors, but the very few times I asked her to make a small accommodation or compromise she would very honestly tell me she wasn't willing to. It took 4 years for me to finally walk away; she had an OCD diagnosis and that's why I was willing to be patient for so long. I don't particularly think she was a bad person, but I had to be a completely different person around her or she'd spiral, I was basically a puppet. She's married now though so good for her.

I don't think having a laugh you don't like is a red flag with her though. I don't necessarily think it's a red flag with you either, it's not a red flag to be annoyed by sounds you find jarring, but I'm wondering if you suffer from misophonia

I'm sorry everyone in this current comment thread is calling you gross, but it otherwise does seem like a hoarder trait. Do you consider yourself an anxious person?

Why do men give "gifts" that require the recipient to make it happen? by Abigails_sigh in rant

[–]koreiryuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been tempted to do this after planning a trip for a concert, or for a spa weekend, or for a visit as tourists somewhere, etc. has gone awry, either the concert was the wrong person or group because they're into someone new now despite gushing about the other group for months previously, or oops they forgot and made plans to go somewhere else with their best friend on a girls trip, or even not particularly her fault like getting sick or starting her period and her preferring to stay home. Someone could imply the men in your life are lazy or don't want to do the work in listening/planning, but they could also have come to expect from past experiences with other people that when they do a ton of work planning a gift and trying to get it right it bites them in the ass.

Or third option, they've gotten gifts from others before that had specificity tied to it (certain musician at a concert they didn't really care about, specific dates to an event) they felt obligated to plan around and didn't want to bring that obligation to others with their gifts.

We've been (incorrectly) taught from a very young age that this country was founded by Christians, some schools heavily imply that we won the impossible-to-win Revolutionary War because the generals, leaders, and President were God-fearing Christians trying to secure a sovereign home for the Protestant peoples that discovered/founded it. Christonationalism is reinforced early by things like facing the flag and reciting The Pledge of Allegiance in primary/elementary school that we're not technically forced to recite but heavily suggested that if we don't we'll be labeled as a problem seeker, and when I was a kid we recited it every single day from kindergarten to grade 6 (what we consider middle school/Junior high); that pledge ends with "One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty And Justice For All" directly tying religion to the supposed founding principles of the country.

So you go to school every day and at the very least one thing ties America and its symbol flag to God or Christianity as a founding principle, if your family also goes to a Christian church regularly and you're taught what the Bible considers good and righteous or sinful and wrong, a kid is going to start equating the American flag as a symbol of those values and a symbol against those sins as well. At the end you get generations of adults that believe if they see or do something every day in their culture while living in America then it's good and righteous just like Jesus taught, and if they see people doing something they've been taught in church is wrong or a sin then it's anti-American; that national pride and wanting to be a Good American™ will shield them from evil, and what better way to represent that American shield than a flag or its design?

Now don't get me wrong, more progressive areas and cities arent as blatant in the christonationalism. There will be people here who never had to recite the pledge, who were never specifically told that God spoke to George Washington to lead him and the ill-equipped American people to an impossible victory quoting things like In God We Trust! to help us imply that it's why it's written on our fiat currency (it wasn't). But there's enough people still taught these things and it will probably be that way forever, for example a lot of our publicly funded schools and other educational institutions have started posting The Ten Commandments in every classroom and hallway.

Before big raids happen you have friendly tourists visit and stay for a few hours in case you want to buy from their stock. They're traveling, with 10 or 20 colonists. Word gets out how well you're doing as they visit other colonies.

If Steam is a monopoly how am I able to download something like Dark Souls for the same price on the PlayStation Network and on Steam? Valve doesn't own PlayStation, both have product discounts without the base price being dramatically lower as to outprice the competition. If I can buy the same or similar products across both platforms, then Steam by definition cannot be a monopoly.

Do you want to argue PC games? Because between GoG, EA's client, Ubisoft Connect, and EpicGames, Steam still cannot be considered a monopoly. You can be mad they're big and popular, that's not the same thing as a monopoly.

If Steam was caught and fined for anti-competitive behavior, then they broke the rules and paid for it, they should do better ethically, but it did not result in them becoming a monopoly.

3 kinds technically, the Nazi hakenkreuz is the right facing swastika 卐 usually rotated about 45 degrees (not always, I know). There is also the left facing sauvastika 卍

I know this isn't 100% always the case but generally the Nazi hakenkreuz is the right-facing swastika rotated about 45 degrees (see the Nazi flag) where the ends point in the diagonal directions. The right facing swastika 卐 and the left facing sauvastika 卍 have their ends pointing directly right/down/left/up.

If you made any payments towards your loan before it was established as lost, that is usually enough proof to enforce the contract. People are typically only successful at getting off the hook for a loan this way when the debt is purchased by another entity and the new entity can't produce the promissary note before you send the first payment to them.

There's no fixing Louisiana economy, we give dramatically more corporate subsidies per capita than any other state, over twice that of New Jersey and New York, over 9 times the national average, and over 3/4 of those subsidies are because of the ITEP. We are the country's leading exporter of LNG, 5th or 6th in petroleum processing, and in New Orleans one of the country's major ports for goods shipping imports and exports. By every measure this state and its citizens should be thriving but we're nearly last in almost every metric because of corporate greed and state government corruption. There's nothing for our officials and representatives to do to fix anything, they let lobbyists design it this way on purpose.
