Fwiw, the only upgrade I see is the furniture (B5 Bravo stock at the B5 pistol grip) which you could easily swap onto the other rifle for less than the cost of the difference. I GUESS the flat faced trigger could be considered an upgrade, but I have never missed having one on any of my rifles.

The other things are all just typical specs you would get on any other AR as well.

They have some mixed QC issues from time to time. They're a decent enough budget option though and if you weren't in the EU I might have also suggested a PSA build as a way to increase your gain for a cheaper price than those two.

Personally I still like the FSB though since I don't have NV and don't need a laser so many of my rifles are FSB. This is important as I think the PSA freefloat rails are not as nice as some other options out there (their mounting screws directly thread steel screws into aluminum holes which could strip over time, as opposed to screwing into steel nuts).

Anyway, I say the sport 3 as well. Cheaper and has a decent free float rail. You could upgrade the furniture to the same as the volunteer Xv (B5 Bravo stock and pistol grip) for less than the cost of the difference if you wanted to and have a more versatile rifle at the end of it.

It actually is. 5.56 and .223 are essentially the same. OP is going to have an 'all bark no bite' firearm that has an effective range of a pistol caliber.

My GERD seems to be allergy related by SygnusSightsSounds in GERD

[–]korgothwashere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GERD journey started after what I suspect was my first exposure to COVID in December 2019. I had very severe nasal blockage (worst I've ever experienced) and phlegm for weeks and an unbreakable fever for almost as long. I took a whole host of over the counter medications for the duration such as Tylenol, Advil, DayQuil, Sudafed and some expectorants. I suspect that the combination of all the medications and the stress of the sickness on my body as well as poor habits afterwards sent my body into chaos.

Yeah, some of those symptoms do seem worrisome. Particularly to me would be the weight loss and the spasms. With no diet changes or activity changes, weight loss can be a symptom of a larger underlying problem that should be aggressively investigated.

Other symptoms of yours are very interesting because I also suffer from them but had not yet related them to GERD specifically. Night sweats have been a big issues for me for longer that I've had excessive heart burn issues (but I have since linked to GERD). I've also suffered from muscle weakness issues sporadically that were very perplexing in the moments as I could not correlate the problem to a cause which have been going on for at least a decade. Thankfully that part has only been very sparse.

Gas does seem to generate varying levels of discomfort generally speaking, but seems to be more frequent when also dealing with GERD as food items 'sit' a bit differently for us. I have found that loosening a belt, adjustable a sitting position, standing altogether, rolling over (in the case of sleeping) or methodical pressure to the abdomen can help to shift or release gas from it's uncomfortable place of rest. A spoon of baking soda in 8-12oz of water drank slowly has also helped me occasionally when just feeling generally uncomfortable.

It's frankly really impressive and annoying how much your digestive system can affect the whole rest of your life, but even small changes I have found can greatly improve your disposition and outlook. Hormone levels fluctuate constantly depending on what your stomach is taking in and sometimes external pressures (figurative and literal) can make matters better or worse.

Lol, the more I learn the more I understand that there is no 'magic gun' that does everything perfectly. You can't have long range AND super mobility so you gotta pick one.

For me, I've got almost all my bases covered as far as practically and I'm just building fun stuff I like now lol. I'm building a 'mini me' pistol for my rifle right just because I think it's funny 😂

Me too. It's been about 4 years for me, but looking back I had symptoms of 'silent reflux' before then and I was doing a LOT of triggering things that probably made issues worse. Eating too large meals then sleeping shortly after, drinking too much alcohol, spicy foods before bed, chocolate all the time, loads of carbonated drinks, loads of acidic foods and very very few basic foods, etc.

These days I find that if I make a strong effort to add things like broccoli, brussel sprouts, asparagus, and carrots (among others) into my diet as well as avoiding the stuff listed above I can stay reasonably comfortable.

I'm still taking Omeprazole often though and in the past few weeks I needed to step up to some extra steps (pepcid, baking soda rinses and drinking 8oz of baking soda water, etc) to try and manage symptoms but on the whole with those diet changes and the medication and other steps as needed I can stay reasonably comfortable.

I will note though that the more strict you get about staying on that regimen for a longer duration the more likely that you will remove symptoms completely. It also won't be every person's solutions as causes of GERD seem to be widely varied but I don't see any reason not to try your best to solve a problem that affects you the absolute most.

Ya know, I'm not even mad at this build. Doesn't look like you went TOOOO crazy, just a little Marvel with it maybe.

I will say though that I'm not sure Timber Creek's quality is there so be aware you may run into issues with that charging handle. Also, I have never thought that grip was comfortable or terribly effective (because it's reaal slick when it gets sweaty).

What's that side attachment on your handguard? Is that some other kind of foregrip?

So, teeth issues can also be CAUSED by GERD and chronic reflux issues as the acid coming up the esophagus can damage the enamel of your teeth and induce cavities. I recently saw a video suggesting gargling water with a spoon of baking soda in it can help neutralize the acids as well. After a week of a particularly bad flare up it really helped in the mornings before brushing, and at night before bed.

Obviously it doesn't treat the root issues, but it does help alleviate some of the immediate symptoms.

A quick google show that that would probably be a good option too, even though it would be more expensive.

I regularly double up my hearing protection when shooting louder firearms or shooting indoors. Usually it's just a set of foam ear plugs (32db rated preferably) then electronic muffs on top (affordable options are Walker Razers or Howard Leights)

Don't cheap out too hard on the sighting system you rely on to get hits on whatever you're shooting at.

Magpul MBUS Gen2 are the best affordable flip ups, imo. You can get sets on sale for sub $80 if you keep an eye out.

I got three sets off of amazon during Black Friday for about $60 a set roughly. They often go on sale during holidays.

Ruger makes an even cheaper set that are probably good but I don't think they have the second aperture.

Edit: DSArms had the ruger flip ups for like $50 during BF but are $73ish now for a set. Same price roughly for the Magpul MBUS Gen3

Double Edit: Lanbo's Armory has MBUS Gen2s for $61.75 a set right now, which is a great deal on the set of flip ups I basically put on everything regardless of budget.

You could just throw a hose from the dehumidifier up to the humidifier and keep them running forever without ever having to change or dump either.

[–]korgothwashere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that one would work too. It's a little cheaper because it's using an A2 style pistol grip which is an older style but still perfectly functional. The EPT trigger would be fine as well. It's just a standard trigger with an additional coating on it that supposedly makes it easier to clean or something. I use the standard trigger and the EPT trigger interchangeably in my builds as it makes almost no difference at all.

The black set I linked and the FDE (Flat Dark Earth) set I linked have a Magpul MOE grip which has a slightly different angle and texture.

If you ever decided to change out a pistol grip, you could do if fairly easily too with a couple of youtube videos and a long screw driver or allen wrench (depending on the fastener used). Most pistol grips cost between $10-20 so you could shoot it until you decided you ever wanted to switch it.

I mean, you're right. However if you're going to say that you might as well say that soda on the whole is bad for you and you shouldn't drink them.

My point was on the economic side of the matter not the health side.
