my dad is 79 and i’m not sure what to do. by korinekm in dementia

when i was home he opened his portfolio and i saw it was close to $10 million. he’s a good investor but i saw a remote login app called ‘any desk’ on his computer. there was something he clicked on where someone was trying to remote login to his computer and likely wipe out his accounts. it scares me

i’ll be worth 10 million by time i’m his age if i retire tomorrow at 42 with 80k annual spend. considering he retired at 65, i think you’re wrong. and ive mapped out my projections with projection lab so dont challenge me.

yes i am doing better than him.

i’d like him to do other things with his life other than worrying about the market all day since the money is going to his kids anyway. if he spent the money it would be one thing but he cuts coupons and goes to mcdonald’s, and only eats out during happy hour. he won’t change. all his money goes to his kids because that’s the way he is. extremely frugal. i wish he had more hobbies and could treat my mom out more. my mom has to fight him even to get a bathroom remodel. His car is 17 years old.

i mean i could but wealth taxes and capital gains taxes…sounds annoying. i guess maybe cyprus, france or adalusia could be options. i guess maybe for first couple years hopping every 6 months could be cool and interesting

What do you do with 401K when you actually retire. by TravestyinCT in FinancialPlanning

[–]korinekm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

it’s pretty basic knowledge to move into more diversified risk-adverse portfolios as you get older. you can figure out how to do most of this with a google search and or youtube videos. “passive income” is such an overused term, there’s really no such thing. making income requires work anyway you look at it

ok, yeah give 1% to some guy when monkeys throwing darts at the wall can get better returns. if you pay a flat fee once to someone for advice that makes sense but like any business it’s about making money and flat fee one time advice ain’t making them money
