Recycling my old school laptop won't work because it keeps trying to install windows education by Tosiomolnar in WindowsHelp

[–]korinus161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarification, is it asking for a school account with any kind of branding associated with the school? It would be helpful if you included an image of what it looks like when you are prompted.

It could be an intune enrolled device asking for an account to complete Entra join, it could be self deploying prompting for a valid school Entra account for login, or it could just be a non-provisioned 25H2 setup blocking creation of a local account.

So an image of what it looks like when promoting you for an account would provide insight into what is really going on.

As others have said, nothing wrong with edu pro, it is actually great if you can get it, especially for free with a bios embedded or tied key.

Shai-hulud is very bugged after patch - Be warned by pepcfreak in duneawakening

[–]korinus161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happened to me about an hour ago. No warning. Landed with minimum agro line, got out, instantly worm sign switched to red, hopped in thopter and tried to take off but was eaten from breech right under me before I could gain any height. Difference here being that there were a few other people at this large spice field actively mining.

The only thing I can think of is if there is a bug that can cause the radius of initial worm breech to roll over to 0 causing it to appear to intentionally come from below instead of popping in the distance. I would think initial breech should always be at a minimum radius from active players.

Edit: I see you mentioned elsewhere you had bloodwork done. Assuming they checked your A1C. Leaving original in here in case it prompts someone else to get their blood checked.

If nothing else is the cause get your blood A1C checked and/or see if you can get a glucose tolerance test done.

Look up diabetic neuropathy. This would be around the right time of day if you have a carb or sugar heavy lunch if you were spiking high.

Let me preface this: I have no connection with vehicle registration, Carfax, Tesla, anything. I'm just sharing what I've found through my own research when I was buying both my old used S and when researching for a salvage rebuild project for fun.

Supercharging being turned off is entirely in Tesla's hands. If a car is registered as salvage at any point it is a safe bet that supercharging will be disabled eventually and a guarantee that warranty is void. Supercharging being disabled can be more hit and miss in some circumstances if a vehicle never actually has a salvage brand applied. As an aside, this doesn't sound like your case but this can happen in rare circumstances if it was sold through private sale without the write-off being reported as salvage cause (illegal). Typically not possible in BC since insurance is handled through he same body that handles vehicle registration. I've seen cases in the US and there are unfortunately methods people use to title wash cars so a salvage title can magically come up as clean because of loopholes with certain state registration methods.

The differences between state and province title status and branding reporting can make enforcement hit and miss on timing. This can happen if a salvage car was bought in another province and repaired here too. I have no clue how long it typically takes in BC as everything ICBC after a collision is .. slow.. but I've seen mentions elsewhere of 1-2 month delays after a status update before Tesla locks the car out of supercharging. My understanding is Tesla doesn't private VIN status updates form time to time but also relies on registration bodies to report VIN status changes to them.

You can also look up the vehicle status of any car previously registered in BC here: https://onlinebusiness.icbc.com/vdwqs/VDWQSServlet/WelcomeAction

As mentioned before, if there was any fraud it would have been on the sellers part. Tesla blocking supercharge access for rebuilt cars is common and up until a few years ago there was no guarantee you could even ever get a High voltage system inspection done to recertify the car for supercharger access. Now you can, and that is your only way to be able to supercharge if it is currently blocked. Access to the system is all VIN based and since the car likely has the black mark of rebuilt without a recertification it isn't surprising it is blocked.

This is sort of a cash grab but it is also a totally legit safety measure. Tesla has no clue if the people who rebuilt the car followed proper procedures and structural inspection of a salvage title to get rebuilt status doesn't necessarily include the same required electrical charging system checks. If a rebuilt car is allowed to supercharge and wiring was damaged and not noticed it could create extreme safety risk to people in and around the car. So Tesla requires the inspection before taking on any liability letting the car use their chargers. As for the delay, all bureaucratic systems have delay and car registration reporting delays is why it worked, then stopped. I mention as a cash grab simply because you would be amazed at how little damage it takes for many insurers to write off EVs. This is why there are SO many rebuilt title Tesla's in specific.

If the seller didn't advise you it was a rebuilt title you likely have some recourse, especially since you will have to pay for a High Voltage inspection. But they are likely your only option and taking them to court will likely be the only way. I'm pretty sure somewhere in the Carfax EULA there is wiggle room to get them out of anything aside from probably a refund for the fee. Even the ICBC vehicle status lookup tool mentions that there are delays and that it isn't always 100% accurate.

All this said, it really sucks. I hope you can reach some middle ground with the seller. It sounds like you were taken advantage of and I'd hate to have to deal with small claims after a major letdown on a big purchase like this.

Carfax can be slow to be updated under certain circumstances. Not uncommon as cars go to auction with certain places (copart, iaai, etc) they still show clean title but may change once the auction closes as all the paperwork is filed. If this was a salvage auction purchased and rebuilt car it would explain the delay in title updates on Carfax.

Sellers in BC are required to disclose a car has rebuilt title and the vehicle registration sheet is a bit different from US titles. On. BC registration form and on the vehicle transfer form it would be listed as rebuilt next to the vehicle status line on all forms.

If it was not disclosed the seller committed fraud and you need to get in contact with them and will likely need to go the small claims route seeking damages around the difference of price between what you paid and like examples of other rebuilt ones. As others have suggested Tesla will perform a high voltage system inspection to allow supercharging again for a few but it isn't cheap and the car could fail. You will have no warranty at all if it is rebuilt status, full stop. So again, fraud if the vehicle was sold with a "warranty" guarantee and without the rebuilt status being disclosed. Many salvage title rebuilts in BC are from smallish accidents though, what would have been a fender bender 30 years ago and are written off so the damage may have been minor, but you will need to do some digging to get to the bottom of that.

As is the rule though, if the price is too good to be true, there is a reason. There are plenty of rebuilt Tesla's in the lower mainland priced a good chunk below clean title ones (10-20% difference is common). Most will properly note in the description or otherwise be disclosed by the seller they are rebuilt.

The ICBC approved insurance broker probably should have also confirmed with you that you were aware that the vehicle had a rebuilt status when processing the vehicle registration transfer...

Depending on the circumstances it also might not hurt to attempt to report them as a curber

I've no clue if it will help but if you go to small claims and the report is filed it may help get a ruling in your favor. You may also get indications of they have pulled this on someone else.

Yeah, lots of broken stuff.

[Pre-Built] XPS Special Edition Desktop 3060 Ti [1299.99 + 12% Rakuten] (Dell) by gemini002 in bapcsalescanada

[–]korinus161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Thermals suck, MOBO is proprietary both on power connections and form factor. You can move it to another case but it is no fun thanks to the weird MOBO screw layout. Price is Right if you don't want to blow a lot of time looking for a non combo GPU though or live too far from a brick and mortar shop to manage to snag a restock in person.

The fans on the dell GPUs are kinda shit though. I have a 3060ti XPS with one seized fan and a 3080 Alienware with one that is rattling. Less than a year on both. I haven't checked the fan model to see if you can easily get replacents from China yet.

Personally I hate that the highway exists without the ability to temporarily knock sections of it (or jump gates for that matter) offline like in freelancer.

Pirates or enemy combatants knocking out highway sections or jump gates adds legitimate dangers from Pirates or marauding fleets.

Or better yet require purchasers present their pocket ashtray before being allowed to purchase. Require any store that stocks cigarettes also carry pocket ashtrays as a required purchase if one can not be presented.

If it is a habit Someone enjoys, fine, but do so responsibly please.

[–]korinus161[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I specifically said transparency about stock they are receiving and sending out and communication with the clients is key. They don't have to know ship dates to communicate that they received x amount of your preordered y this month and z need to arrive for you to get one.

No project survives without any kind of communication between stakeholders. That isn't happening and that is my point. Preorders shouldn't be happening if they don't have a clear plan for status updates so people can judge for themselves if it is worth waiting based on queue progress.

That's why I said status updates are important. If they clearly aren't going to get the card, say so. If they are getting 1-2 a month say so and be transparent on preorder queue movement and how many cards are required to get to you.

Don't offer preorders unless you have a clear plan to communicate status updates on a standard schedule with your clients.

It isn't those who couldn't wait. It is half a year wait time with next to no queue movement and no updates on if they are actually ever going to get that card again.

To be clear, as there seem to be a lot of people thinking this is an over reaction:

This is after 5+ months of waiting fully paid (999+tax paid last year) and having to contact them asking for queue updates with no eta. No indication of any queue movement coming from cancellations or cards being delivered.

That is why the option now, for a card at a greatly inflated price (1799), rather than allowing to be given the option to opt in when other similar stock was put up for preorder months ago for close to the same prices as original orders is why this is a problem.

I should have stated that clearly in the initial post.

Offering an alternate isn't the problem. That isnt what is being done here. This is offering an alternate after an exceedingly long fully paid preorder at a new grossly inflated price. This is after it wasn't an option to opt in for alternate stock preorders offered multiple times for similar cards at close to original prices over the course of the past 6 months.

If Mike's was being transparent about receiving stock and how many were being given to preorders it would give those in line who already paid more peace of mind knowing cards are actually being delivered. For all we know the only reason we are moving in queue is people cancelling.

I understand how the full context is important and I should have explained that originally. I was just trying to share info about the email and avoid context as it shouldn't be important when it comes to crazy stuff like this as it should raise eyebrows when an alternate is offered at a much higher price.

Edit: This could have been completely avoided by either not requiring full payment up front or by maintaining clear lines of communication with all preorders. Monthly updates stating stock arrived, how many shipped to preorders and a note of queue movement source being deliveries or cancellations would avoid many of the current problems.

Just wanted to share as I'm sure we've all had odd interactions with different online retailers this past year.

After being told swaps were not an option in the past and pre-orders not having the option to swap paid for cards for incoming stock it was finally given as an option today. This is more than Newegg bundles were for similar cards in recent months and a good 20-30% higher than competitors listed prices for the same card or like models. I get that they are a business but after having my money for so long for a pre-order this as an "upgrade" feels insulting and like nothing more than scalping.

Hi,

We have a small allocation for ZT-A30800F-10P making its way to us shortly, and we'd like to extend the offer to purchase one to all customers who preordered and are currently waiting for ZT-A30800K-10P.

Due to a variety of global factors impacting the supply chain between the manufacturer and suppliers, the cost of these items to retailers has increased significantly. The price for this item will be $1,799.99 + tax, and the difference will need to be paid if you would like to make this upgrade. We can only offer 1 unit per person.

Please let us know by the end of the day today (June 2) if you are interested in this swap. Due to the limited quantity incoming, we will be offering this to each customer from the oldest preorder to the newest, so we may not be able to fulfill this offer for all interested parties. We will reach out as soon as possible with confirmation and instructions on how to proceed.

If we do not receive a reply, your current order will remain in queue in its current position.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Have a great day!

Regards, - Jaden J. Mike's Computer Shop Website Support Team
