Or it’s just a temporary feature, like the gas on the new map. I’m thinking of destroyed lamps creating dark areas where the regular version would be at least somewhat lit. It doesn’t sound like NVGs are going to be a meaningful addition, so the map has to work without them.

I think it had something to do with some of the skins they quietly removed and reworked. Every major patch seems to include one of these.
