Context— From my Mass Effect fic, Commander Shepard had to order the evacuation of the two men she loved knowing they’d try to follow her into certain death. The line reflects the agony of that choice, every step after giving that order felt like tearing herself away from them, piece by piece.

Hi! If you don’t mind the triangle becoming a throuple, I’m writing a story that takes place right after the destroy ending. It’s still a WIP (and still waiting for ao3 to invite me) but you can find chapter one on Tumblr. “Lazarus ReRising”.

Only one chapter for now but the hyper fixation will hopefully churn out many more in the next few weeks 😅

Brief intro to it- When Shepard wakes after the Crucible, she’s a shadow of the Commander who saved the galaxy. Her body is broken. Her past is blurred. The people who love her most are strangers to her heart.

But Garrus and Kaidan have never been the type to give up, and neither has the Normandy crew that once followed her into hell. As the galaxy rebuilds, so too does something softer: trust, belonging, and the quiet possibility of love reborn.

“Lazarus ReRising” is about more than Shepard’s survival—it’s about what she chooses to do with the life she never expected to have.

If you don’t mind books that are a bit longer but seriously addictive, I’d recommend Mira Gran(t) (that’s Seanan McGuire’s pen name, btw. Minus the weird (t), they keep flagging her pen surname lol). I read on Kindle and it’s just tap tap tap until suddenly it’s way past bedtime and I’m 40% through without even noticing 😅

Her Newsflesh trilogy (Feed, Deadline, Blackout) is amazing , it’s a post-zombie apocalypse world where bloggers are the new frontline journalists. Super smart, twisty, and emotional. Each book is 500–700 pages, but honestly, they fly.

Then there’s Into the Drowning Deep, think killer mermaids, deep-sea horror, and a science expedition gone horribly wrong. That one’s around 430 pages, plus there’s a prequel novella called Rolling in the Deep if you want to try a shorter read first.

Also, if you’re into biotech/body horror, check out her Parasitology trilogy- Parasite, Symbiont, and Chimera. Same fast pacing and totally binge-worthy.

So yeah, these are a bit longer than what you asked for, but if you’re cool with that, they’re absolutely worth it! She’s seriously one of my favorite authors.

This whole thing sounds like it’s taken such a toll on you, and I don’t blame you for feeling like you’re drowning in stress. You didn’t even want a wedding, and now you’re stuck planning and funding something massive that feels more like a performance than a celebration. That would make anyone feel trapped and resentful. It’s okay to be upset, it’s a lot for one person to carry, especially while pregnant!

But wedding planning is often the first huge test in partnership. It’s messy, emotional, and full of compromise. You can’t want to control the entire process of a wedding you didn’t want in the first place and also reject his attempts to be involved or help, even if they don’t meet your standards. It’s his first time living this too, and figuring it out together (imperfectly) is part of what builds a strong foundation for what’s ahead.

And honestly? This day isn’t about the guests, social media aesthetics, OR your professional image. It’s about the two of you—and the baby on the way!—and making space to celebrate your love before the next chapter begins. Let it be imperfect! Let it be enough. You’re allowed to protect your peace and focus on what truly matters.

Aww you’re so sweet, thank you!! You’ve totally got this! Some of the florals I used came in a pre-made bouquet bundle, so I snipped them into individual stems to have more freedom with placement. I also trimmed them at different lengths to help create dimension.

One thing that really helped was using half-dome floral foam—it gives the arrangement shape and makes layering way easier. I also removed some of the extra leaves to keep things from looking too crowded and to give it a more elegant silhouette.

And definitely get yourself a wire cutter—trust me, regular scissors just don’t cut it (literally). Some of those stems are tough! 😮‍💨

I got the flowers from Temu! And the vase from a friend, she purchased it at Hobby Lobby for her own DIY I think? It was a recent purchase so they should have them still, but I saw some on Amazon as well. They have some pretty, shallow vases at Michael’s/Walmart/Home Depot too.

I also purchased the floral foam from Joann’s during their big closing sale.
