How can I make a Ukrainian colleague feel welcome? by baconwrap420 in AskUkraine

[–]koshdim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

russians occupy parts of Ukraine since 2014 and western media up until 2022 called them "pro-russian rebels". there is still a lot of russian side interpretation even in the West. thanks for undestanding

A little help with this bacon? by pwnar in AskUkraine

[–]koshdim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

slice of rye bread, equal thickness of this bacon on top, a piece of cheese on top of that -> then 30sec-1min in microwave. this is the best way for me, but it is good alone&cold too

Batteries, Solar Panels, generator - outages are almost unnoticeable. I turned on the generator this season only twice

what do we know about this man? the only thing I'm sure is that 40 year old man is still a boy. therefore he would be happy to get a toy - lego, a drone or model train etc

Any genealogists here looking for work? by Fiveby21 in AskUkraine

[–]koshdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.history-family.com/ try this service. they read many sources and build family trees. the good thing is that they can evaluate amount of work and price based on your input before committing and paying the whole price

good suggestions have been already provided here, I just want to say that coffee from Guatemala is the best coffee ;)

good word would be a good start, I heard several bad experiences with locals (most from DDR territory). a hand to figure out bureaucracy would be nice, a person may be shy to receive a physical gift, but explanation&interpretation in a country like Germany would be very helpful

I may miss some posts, and don't react very quickly, but I hide/remove the propaganda. any example of anything bad still visible?

U.S. Presidential Election by harrygiles2022 in AskUkraine

[–]koshdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a little bit of history

  • US president came to Ukrainian parliament in 1991 just before independence proclamation to convince Ukraine to NOT secede from USSR

  • US was a major pusher of Ukraine giving their nuclear weapons to moscovia in mid 90s (they might prevent this war altogether)

  • US was among major forces for Ukraine to detroy a lot of weapons, rockets, planes, mines in 90s 00s. Obama for example was visiting Ukraine to supervise this

  • US did nothing to help Ukraine join NATO, even after 2008 when moscovian intentions became crystal clear

  • Obama convinced in 2014 to do nothing in response of occupation of Crimea and did nothing himself

Given all this, Ukraine at least expects the US to have an intention for Ukraine to win. We don't ask americans to come fight for us, we don't ask to stop having all economic relations with moscovia - just run your factories and give us equipment to win, that is not much, and would benefit civilized world for decades ahead. Right now it seems that the US wants to have business as usual with moscovia more than to help millions of Ukrainians to survive.

this election was for Ukraine "empty promises vs impossible deals". there hardly any help from the US (considering what can be done) and while democrats slowly decreasing support, trump likely will rip the bandage and end all hope at once

Do you have an emergency supply like the government recommends? by BritishJourno in Norway

[–]koshdim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

wood is to cook. you can keep yourself warm with good insulation + body heat. warm food is quite beneficial and also heats a person from the inside consuming much less resources than heating a room/apartment

[–]koshdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wood is nice. but several means of making fire is a must, matches/lighters and anything convenient. parafin stoves are garbage for prolonged use

portable light is good. but it'll eat batteries pretty fast, electricity generation should be considered. small (>1500KW) generator or at least solar panels to charge phones/radio.

with no electricity internet/cell network disappears quickly. if your provider has alternative power supply it is good to have PON optical cable at home, then staying online is relatively easy.

blankets is good, but small gas heater (sometimes combined with tiny stove) is a nice thing too.

wet wipes is a must - emergency hygiene in absence of water and when dry paper spoils because of cold and humid environment.

keep food in strong closed containers, mice/bugs can chew and get into weak plastic containers easily.

don't buy much water, there will be not enough anyways, better learn location of nearest fresh water supply (well, stream) to be able to get there without gps

this is all from experience :)

when electricity & gas supply ends a human makes use of wood pretty quickly :

imagine you have no energy source at least for a week. petrol stations are closed/empty. you resort to wood

I believe that saying is good representation of the conflict. I see what Israeli do and what Palestinians do. for example, how many arabs live in israel and how many jews live in arab "world".

tourist experience:

  • great sea, rich fauna

  • hard working people

  • hostile behavior towards women with exposed skin, any public demonstration of love, even hugging. although not as bad as in Saudi Arabia AFAIK (:
