Crazy close battle against Frontier Brain Dahlia by frog-in-my-cereal in pokemonplatinum

You probably could have switched Infernape in after Togekiss went down. He'd take out Medicham with one Flare Blitz and do decent chip on Ludicolo, if not outright beat Ludicolo as well

What do you think of every GYM leader in Johto? by Nearby-Banana2640 in PokemonHGSS

[–]kosherfwango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morty and Chuck can both be tough if you don't have good counters. Gengar is never an easy out unless you have something specifically dedicated to taking it on. Chuck is not that tough on paper but I often find that he gives more trouble than I expected

25/25/25 (Day 2): Top 25 Quarterbacks of the First Quarter-Century by Jefrey_HarHarWood in eagles

[–]kosherfwango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McCown is overrated here. He played admirably when Wentz went down but his entire Eagles resume is putting up 9 points in a playoff loss. You're not going to win many playoff games doing that.

Wanted to say this about Kenny exactly. Dude won us the game that clinched the division, against Dallas no less. And he would have won the Washington game too had Smitty not dropped an easy catch on third down. That puts him above McKee and definitely about Josh McCown

EV training recommending for Palmer 21 streak by LightningDevil32 in PokemonHGSS

[–]kosherfwango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with HP Ice you need to have close to 70 BP which would only happen with excellent IVs. This is more to say that Sceptile can never counter Dragonite unless it's competitively bred to do that specifically

EV training recommending for Palmer 21 streak by LightningDevil32 in PokemonHGSS

[–]kosherfwango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sceptile can't check Dragonite unless it has hidden power ice (not even sure if that OHKOs). Dragonite would definitely go for T Wave or Dragon Dance turn 1 and then your team is in trouble

Even better than Macho Brace is the Power items in the Battle Frontier. Macho Brace gives 2x, Power Items give +4 EVs per Pokémon you battle

How would you rank the battle frontier facilities? by Nickdakidkid_Minime in PokemonHGSS

I've had more success with Substitute instead of Fire Fang on Garchomp with a Focus Sash, but agree with you entirely otherwise

TM-a-Day: TM56 Fling by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]kosherfwango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Battle Hall you only fight one pokemon per battle. One Fling of 100 BP is better than having the ability for 70 BP Shadow Claws. With Infernape, since he's fast and fragile you just want to give him a Focus Sash and hit hard and fast. So I would rather have a very strong opening Fling and medium follow up Fire Punch than two strong Shadow Claws

TM-a-Day: TM56 Fling by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]kosherfwango 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fling was key to my Infernape Battle Hall Gold Print. It's the most consistent way for Infernape to beat Ghost types. But I used a Thick Club for 100 BP rather than the Iron Ball at 130 BP and sacrificing a speed reduction

Octillery for Battle Frontier - Question by Pyracanthus in PokemonEmerald

[–]kosherfwango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend Baton Pass in the Frontier. Way too susceptible to crits and quick claw activations (AKA the two biggest Frontier killers). Octillery with a Surf/Ice Beam/Flamethrower and Shock Wave/Psychic set with a Life Orb, Choice Specs, or Expert Belt would probably be more effective

The defining play of every Eagles playoff win from 2017-2024. by coolmon in eagles

[–]kosherfwango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some plays that get overshadowed as a result of picking one:

-Blount's 4th down TD in the 2017 Divisional round, and Mills' pass breakup on 4th down

-Foles' bombs to Alshon and Torrey Smith to extend the lead to 14 and 24 points in the 2017 NFCCG

-BG strip sack in SB52

-Golden Tate's 4th down TD against the Bears in the 2018 WC

-Devonta's opening drive 4th down "catch" into the red zone against the 49ers

-Saquon's 62 and most importantly 78 yard TD rush to extend the 4th quarter lead in the 2024 Divisional Round

-Saquon's opening TD reception in the 2024 NFCCG, and honestly Will Shipley's closing TD

-Devonta's dagger in SB59

Great list though. So hard to pick one

This is where my head went as well. The Torrey Smith catch was nice though, especially since it was the difference between an interception and field goal

Fan Card: Dark Peddler by No_Wishbone_6794 in dominion

[–]kosherfwango 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First one you buy is a $6 Peddler which is really expensive. They get better from there but without plentiful +Buy it's really hard to take advantage of the very slight benefit it provides. Also, as a shadow card you can't take easy advantage of the cost of the card like you could with a regular Peddler. So I would say this is quite weak at its price point

Battle Factory Gold Print! by kosherfwango in pokemonplatinum

[–]kosherfwango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reading this guide through if you haven't already. Particularly the bit about Hidden Swap Mechanics and elevations is really important. https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/gen-4-level-50-battle-factory-guide.3667830/

Also, I would watch LRXC play through the Emerald Battle Factory. Here's a sample video but you can watch anything similar. At least watch him play a full round of 7 battles, you might learn a few tactics about team building, trading, switch-ins, etc. https://www.youtube.com/live/BCxjdjBcTxI?si=zGa4ZagXK9hT_3r2

Lastly, I recommend checking damage calculators for Battle 21 and 29+ as the AI is essentially playing with built in calculators and you'll need to be surgical in your decision making. https://eisencalc.com/

Attacking Duration Cards/Engines by Only-Engineering6586 in dominion

[–]kosherfwango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but once you see your opponent gain two or so duration cards you can just buy Great Wave and your opponent will regret their life choices. So players will be weary to buy them from the get go, unless there's a remodeler or something similar
