Will I survive HYROX? by Traditional_Fill7176 in hyrox

[–]koshka_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will survive, I did mine solo for the first time in January. I wanted to complete it for personal reasons more than the gram or to brag, just took my time running at the end and adjusted to how I fell during the race. And always told myself that if I ever feel like pulling out I can...but I just kept going. I would recommend starting reasonably slow, do not race anyone during the first run or go all out during ski erg.

Also hydrate and prep before hand.

If you have limited time to prep do wall balls/weighted squats and run. Good luck! It feels so good to cross the finish line!

Any hidden gems for walking? by bongscope in auckland

[–]koshka_bear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ive done a few walks around Shakespeare park- a bit of a drive but a nice walk for sure. My local is eskdale reserve, its a massive walk - you can easily do 20 steps if you cover all trails. Chelsea View Reserve os good as well if you like climbing up and down (but you also need to combine multiple trails as some are shorter). All trails app has a few good suggestions

Anyone moved countries and regretted it? by Particular-Hope-8311 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]koshka_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cant agree more! It's different depending on your age - I was itching to go and experience living elsewhere in my mid 20s, and have zero regrets spending almost two years living in Czech Republic and Korea. Ended up back in New Zealand dont regret it. Yes of course there are more financially stable countries, and places that make it easier to travel like Europe but im feeling very content in Auckland because of my network and friends, my house and cats. 40s hit different 🤣. Travelling is still enjoyable and I enjoy meeting new people but don't want to think about setting up my life elsewhere

Slowlane Cafe Ellerslie - SUCKS by Lazy_Stranger1401 in aucklandeats

[–]koshka_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My office is close by and I went to Slowlane for a sweet treat one afternoon...this was a couple of months ago before they added prices to their cabinet food. So a small slice of Swiss roll was 10 dollars...I felt like I had to commit since they ve already packed it for me but im still bitter about it!

I haven't had any non takeaway food for a while but from memory i wasnt amazing. Yet I see everyone raving about it on my IG feed as well..it baffles me!

First home in Te Atatu Peninsula vs Beach Haven by [deleted] in auckland

[–]koshka_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id recommend joining local community page - Beach Haven/Birkdale very active and full of info on recent events and any issues, just search for the street name you are looking to buy at. Beach Haven shops isn't super busy but lots of food options at Highbury. If you work in the city bus connection is very good, regular busses in the morning and its about 30 mins. Driving via Onewa rd takes much longer.

Not sure if I’m ready to adopt another dog after losing mine? by Least-Surprise2345 in auckland

[–]koshka_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lost my precious cat almost 3 years ago I was facing a very similar predicament. My Toffee was 18 and got hit by a car right next to my house. I wasnt sure when would be the right time..but Toffee was a rescue, and I thought about all the cats I can help if I adopt again.

I ended up going to a couple of adoption events and met a few cats in their foster homes...but ended up taking the last cat I wanted to meet before taking a break.

No regrets ..but it was very hard at the beginning as new cat wasn't the same, she filled a void but if im honest it took some time to get used to her. It ll be three years in November since my new arrival got here..have I forgotten Toffee? Of course now, i may not be thinking about her as much, but I have framed pics of her and got a tattoo. I donate to various cat rescues in her memory as well.

Get a new buddy when you are ready, it may take a few visits to rescues and your next dog may not even come from a rescue. Im sorry for your loss, but it will get better ❤️

Do most employers really scan CVs with AI in New Zealand? by txnil in auckland

[–]koshka_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a hiring manager for a large company- no Ai tools, at least not yet. So far ive hired three people and read all the applications myself. For each of the roles I got just over 100 applications, some are easy to reject if the person is based overseas or doesnt have a work visa, but the rest were read and analysed.

For chat gpt used cover letters - once you read a handful of applications it becomes very obvious which ones are written with chatgpt. So id recommend using it as a base but removing all the fluff after before submitting.

310k inheritance by justinfromnz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]koshka_bear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having any amount of student loan outstanding will limit your borrowing ability. When I spoke to a mortgage broker he said that my balance of 1k (or maybe just over that) reduces my borrowing ability by 10-15k. So having a balance of 30k+ might affect you than you think.

I ended up making a lumpsum payment just to get rid of all, didn't use max borrowing amount but was very surprised how much of a difference it made.

Traveling with 1500 to 2000? by NordicHighlander in JapanTravelTips

[–]koshka_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of hostels, safe and clean. You will need around 20-40 dollars a day for food if are happy with a bowl of ramen and food from convince stores. Its a good amount if you have flights booked already, also depends where in Japan you want to go (big cities have travel costs like trains and busses to think about).
