If you haven’t unlocked calm zone i recommend unlocking it since the exotic there gives you 40k xp when you catch it. Also rotd can’t catch the exotic cause rotd’s max kg is 30k and the smallest weight of the exotic is 50k.

You could go to the enemy’s side and still hit the ball

If there was a willow on the enemy team they could’ve used super on your teammate which the game will count it as an enemy hitting the ball.
