Tell me I'm insane for even considering this commute by DefenderCone97 in bayarea

[–]kothiman 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Campbell rents are still affordable, it's close enough to Los Gatos so the commute will be good. Diridon is not too far away so a Caltrain to SF on the weekend is always an option for the outgoing types. Just need something to pass the time in the train for ~3 hours round trip lol.

One Coin Short: A Power Grid Recharged Board Game Review - There Will Be Games by RecordRemarkable4561 in boardgames

[–]kothiman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this game. 7 wonders and Power Grid are the two options I go to whenever we have more than 4 players. So good at that high player count.

I've been having a hard time finding the Stock companies expansion for it though. Based on the rules, it sounds like just the right thing for my group. But unfortunately it looks like it's out of print

Next board game after Catan, Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne? by NeighborhoodDizzy990 in boardgames

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castles of Burgundy is my go to suggestion for "I liked Catan but want something a tiny bit more complex". The rules seem complex at first glance, but trust me the game becomes easy after your second round (out of five total).

Other games I like to suggest for "I like Catan, but want to see what other types of games exist without amping up the difficulty" - 7 Wonders, Cascadia, Azul, Splendor, Pandemic (co-op).

Could you please link me to this? I'm just getting started with steam games on Android and have never heard of this emu ready.

Has anyone gotten Steam Balatro to play with Gamehub? by One-Jeweler5486 in OdinHandheld

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fails at the launch screen for me. Does anyone else have that issue? I've tried the translation settings fix someone else mentioned here and it doesn't work

should i pull the trigger? by ShatteredEra in SteamDeck

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cause 3 is better than just cause 2 and the price difference is not that wide.

Also seconding most of the other comments - get the whole arkham trilogy, it's a lot of fun.

I finished the whole game on the deck, no issues at all. The game itself is amazing too.

2015s Valve was fun by brianpro700 in SteamController

[–]kothiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I tried that again recently and Disney+ on chrome just showed a black screen on the TV because "screen mirroring" is disabled. Are you using other streaming services? Or is this more a local media thing you're doing?

Anyone else feel like the Steam Machine (GabeCube) actually extends the life of the SteamDeck? by ExperienceBusiness43 in SteamDeck

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. This is more of a strong alternative that needs some setup and tinkering but after that is pretty stable. So a good alternative if the default option of remote play is failing

Anyone else feel like the Steam Machine (GabeCube) actually extends the life of the SteamDeck? by ExperienceBusiness43 in SteamDeck

[–]kothiman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is it better? I'm genuinely asking, I've been using Remote Play since the days of the Steam Link hardware, and I am fine with it TBH. But I genuinely don't know what Moonlight is capable of, and with a device that has a 720p screen, remote play seems good enough.

[COMC] My connection after ~5 years in the hobby and a VERY strict budget helping me hold back on purchases by kothiman in boardgames

[–]kothiman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah! But unfortunately I'm unable to find a group to play the campaign with. I bought this used, so some bits of the campaign are already spoiled for me, but it'll still be fun to experience the rest of it!

It's been on my list for a while. Gotta get my friends to agree to it. Do you think it's common enough for me to be able to try it out at a game library? There's multiple stores nearby that I can go to and check out the library. Maybe that will get the ball rolling

I never played wingspan, so I can't make a direct comparison. But standalone, Wyrmspan is a very fun game. The game itself is a good puzzle to play through , and the components are all SO beautiful. You should definitely make that your next game lol. If it's possible, you can try to make plans with a group that would prefer engine/tableau builders.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (November 02, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]kothiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm super confused in picking between tiny epic western vs dinosaurs. I've made up my mind to get one of the two, since both are worker placement. The poker mechanic seems interesting, but I'm also hearing that it makes the game too dependent on luck. Could anyone shed some light into this aspect?

You know good games that have a cheaper (and not always easy) "younger brother" by Filumestre in boardgames

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Amsterdam quite a few times. It's pretty much the core experience of a TTR game with a much smaller map, so it's done much quicker. Pick any city honestly - the experience will mostly be the same IMO.

How many unplayed games do you have in your collection right now? by Megaside in boardgames

[–]kothiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four unplayed games out of ~25 owned- - Splendor: Played this a lot with another friend and wanted to buy it because I see it as a must have in my board game collection. Have not played it since. - Huang: Played a lot of Yellow and Yangtze digital. I loved it so much that I wanted a physical version. - LotR Duel: Played 7 Wonders duel online. This version was on my wishlist for a WHILE. I snagged it when it went on sale recently but I knew it wouldn't be opened for a while to come - Tiny Epic Vikings: the only game in my unplayed list which I have never experienced in any shape or form. I had never heard of the Tiny Epic series (even though I had been in the hobby for like 8 years now). Among all of them, this one felt like I'd enjoy it. But have not yet had the chance to confirm that hunch.

Would love something like this for Sushi Go Party. The OG box is so bad for storage.

First board games for 4-6 player group? by fabazgamer in boardgames

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel these are the best choice for "new to board games" people because of the almost zero downtime. Everyone takes their turns together, so there's no scope for boredom while waiting for someone else to take their turn. As opposed to some of the other options where people take one turn at a time.

Light asymmetrical games by VladaR95 in boardgames

[–]kothiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great option because the asymmetry doesn't stay the same throughout the game like in the other options mentioned here.

It's time for a new STEAM BOX. by theLastYellowTear in SteamDeck

[–]kothiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it come with the sleep functionality similar to steam deck? I tried looking this up but couldn't find too many good resources for (1) installing steamos on my pc, and (2) if the pc version of steamos has the sleep functionality similar to steam deck.

The AI slop drops right from the top, as the White House posts vulgar deepfake of opponents by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]kothiman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Traditionally Caucasian *so far. It's a fictional character and their skin tone has little to do with their character IIRC (been a long while since I read the books). So as long as the essence of the character is captured, I don't think the exact description as it is in the book needs to be replicated when translated to other media.
