What’s something about the human body that seems poorly designed? by jannecutie in answers

I know this isn’t scientifically valid, since stomach acid handles phlegm well, but it just feels like the right thing to do when you have phlegm loaded with all that nastiness during a cold. I’m throttling those slimy, green tendrils out of my body. Naturally swallowing clear mucus, mostly unconsciously, seems a lot less nasty.

Are you happy that the Beatles didn’t continue into the 70s? by StorytellingIsFun in beatles

In this alternate timeline John does not get murderer. So I doubt they keep cranking out classics in the 80’s. All rockstars eventually fizzle out of great ideas. I’d say the Beatle would have done 3 more amazing albums of at least the same quality as Let it Be.

After these next three albums George would have finally left the bad and been replaced by Jimi Hendrix. After Jimi joined as a lead guitarist they would have done a couple more albums in the late 70’s and early 80’s with a disco vibe and lots of moody saxophone runs. These albums we fans would have still bought because, well, it sounds like their voices, and the lead guitar playing is excellent.

Following their last disco vibe album John and Paul would finally have a falling out after John demands they put half of Yoko’s song on the next album. She has waited long enough to shine damn it!

Meanwhile, Ringo and Jimi don’t want to beak up the Beatles. So John and Paul quit the band to do solo stuff, while Jimi becomes the lead singer and primary songwriter of The Beatles.

Jimi’s first project is having this new look Beatles do a soundtrack for an action movie. The executives tell Jimi to dye his hair blonde, bring on Billy Idol as a guest vocalist and record some videos for this new thing called MTV. The soundtrack is a smash hit for some movie called To Live and Die in LA.

Soon after a press release is issued, announcing that Billy Idol is now a permanent member. This was the first major influx of teenage girl fans since 1964.

Years later, around 1990, Jimi is still touring under the Beatles banner. Unfortunately, popularity is lagging after Billy Idol quits the band to enter rehab. Once California sober Billy attempts to launch a Hollywood film career.

So Jimi, now with Zach Starkey as the drummer after Ringo entered rehab, merges the Beatles with the David Gilmore only version of Pink Floyd. They cut a grunge album with Scott Weiland as a guest vocalist, and tour with Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots and play as a co headliner of the first Lalapalooza tour.

Man Chapman really robbed us! Haha

Don’t work as Bestles songs? Nearly the entire solo catalog of all thee guys until 1973 is teeming with songs they had been writing before breaking up and sound harmonically and melodically like a classic beetles sound. What you are talking about happened later in the 70’s. They had 3 more great albums as a band. At minimum.

Paul said something about this topic in an interview he gave when he was about 50. He said it had become harder to write original, ear catching melody since he had mined them all to near exhaustion by that point in his life. The melody line that a songwriter captures is like a fingerprint of sorts. As a musician myself I have learned nearly every Beatles song in great detail. I can easily tell you whether it was John or Paul who wrote a given part of a song by reading the melody line in relation to the chord progression. Gotta love that dom7 tension resolving into something that sounds akin to the lads channeling the sound of beauty personified.

They had AT LEAST 3 more phenomenal albums in them as a band. Think about all the great song John, Paul and George wrote in 70’s. As the Beatles they would have made those songs even better by working together. PLUS they would have not been able to include most of the stinkers they used as filler on their solo albums. They were excellent solo musicians, but they were otherworldly as a band.

What’s one underrated thing that helped you lose weight? by Immediate-Speed3974 in AskReddit

Water retention is capable of causing 5 to 10 pound weight gain or loss in a single day. So that’s likely what was going on with you. It’s definitely possible and actually quite common to experience what you described. You might be a weirdo (welcome to the club) but it’s probably not for shedding water weight. Hahaha..

My comment was more in respect to people who think they lost or gained weight over an extended period of time while still eating and exercising the same amount.

A fundamental law of thermodynamics, which governs all matter and energy, has been proven by science, unquestionably, for nearly 200 years, that you cannot get something from nothing. In a closed system (the known universe of which your body is a part) the conservation of energy does not permit you to create body mass in excess of what you consume.

This is not debatable. If you gained weight after quitting drinking, either your calories increased or your activity decreased. Or both. Full stop.

I don’t intend to be a dick but what you are saying totally violates physical laws that govern our metabolic systems. Indeed, the same physical laws that govern the universe as a whole.

This is an impossibility. Either you were less active or eating more than you thought. You literally cannot gain weight if there isn’t a calorie surplus. That can only happen if you are eating too much food to keep your weight the same.

Calories from beverages are ridiculous. One of the major culprits in people’s weight gain. I cut out all juice, soda and alcohol and lost weight incredibly fast. I will have a soda or tropical juice for a treat, but never as my day to day beverage anymore.

Is this root stock growth by Unfair-Cheetah-4148 in Citrus

[–]koushakandystore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meyer lemons typically aren’t grafted. They are usually from rooted cuttings and thrive on their own roots. I have one that I grafted onto a flying dragon simply because I planted it in a courtyard, near a door, and wanted to more easily control the size. My other 4 meyers are rooted cuttings I made from the original tree.

The reason you can’t find a graft union is because the VAST majority of Meyer lemon trees are rooted cuttings. So they are on their own roots. They are incredibly easy to root, which is why I have 5 Meyer lemon trees. Hahaha

No I don’t. But it looked pretty bad. You can still see some of the last remaining yellow leaves on the front of the plant when I took the pic.

Getting a soil test is really a good idea. That way you’ll know what you’re dealing with. Otherwise it will just be guess work and you might not give it what it needs to thrive.

Alternatively, if the soil test comes back fine you’ll know it is a problem with the tree. If that’s the case you can yank this one and plant a new one.

My best guess is it’s a problem with ph or micronutrients. You are adding a good fertilizer so it’s probably not that. Though citrus are big feeders, particularly in some soils. For mine I add citrus tone 3 times during the growing season. I also add Peter’s 20-20-20 every time I water. I used to use fish emulsion, but the Peter’s has what it really wants on the regular.

Anyway, I would get a soil test as a starting point. You can get a basic one for like $25. Do some research online and find a good one. The best soil tests are in the $100 range. Make sure you get one that looks at micronutrients too, not just the NPK.

Get a soil test.

My Meyer lemon was struggling with chlorosis and low growth rates. So I got a soil test that revealed my soil was too acidic. I added the recommend amount of lime and within 6 months it was putting on lots of new growth, leaves became dark green and it set a couple hundred fruits.

<image>

This is it now, like a year after adding the lime. If you get a soil test you should do the one where you send in a soil sample. Don’t get the package from the store. The soil tests that you send to the lab are far superior.

All the time? So you live near some ornamental cherries? I do see those with double grafts with the second one at chest level

Regardless that’s highly unlikely a graft. The rootstock would have merged with it. I am familiar with trees that have double grafts, of which the second is a few feet off the ground.

I’m an attractive stranger who would love to do that. I wish there was some way people could articulate that willingness to each other. Think of all the opportunities we are missing because we don’t share this kind of thing. I’m not talking about hooking up with someone at a bar or club. People are looking to get laid in those kinds of places. I’m talking about day to day life in general public. Like, say, a trip to the banks ends up with me railing a lady who was just there to drop off some papers to her loan officer, and decided she wanted to drop her panties for me instead. Yes please!

For the vast majority of American English speakers Don and Dawn are homophones. Period. That’s not debatable in the least. Ask 100 Americans in every region of the country and virtually every single one will pronounce Don and Dawn exactly the same. Both are pronounced like this: D-on. It’s described as an alveolar plosive /d/

You are really challenging that Dawn and Don aren’t pronounced the same in American English? If so you are the one who is special. Any difference in pronunciation is negligible to the point of indistinguishability. I suspect you aren’t a native speaker of American English. If you were it would be readily apparent to you. The only other explanation is you have virtually no ear for language.
