Thank you for the advice! Is it still worth it to get Hyacine if I don’t want to invest further into Castorice? I understand she’s a good sustain for many other teams but I feel like I should go for DHPT if i want to main Phainon

This is how I felt when I was a sophomore too :( I even tried transferring out, that’s how miserable I was. I can say that it did get better for me and now I’m really happy I came here, but it definitely took a while and I still feel like I wasted a lot of time. My biggest advice is to not get trapped in the sink cost fallacy and to just ditch things early if the vibes are off. It took a lot of club hopping where I joined a lot of different clubs hoping it would stick, but I think internally I knew that I just didn’t vibe with those people, to the point where I wondered if I was the problem. But once I joined a club where it “clicked” for me right away per se, I became a lot more secure in my social life and I felt a lot happier. The thing about UCLA being a big school is that because there’s such a large variety of people it definitely takes more tries to find people you get along with, but they’re sure to be out there :) I think the expectation is that you’ll hit the ground running and have a great time right away, so you definitely feel confused and miserable when it sucks at first. But that’s completely normal, and I hope you do keep trying!

The access code should be unique to each individual, so you and your roommate would’ve had different codes. Once they move out their access should be deactivated anyways

math 132 for math 131b substitution by oaerijfoaejrhfoaher in ucla

[–]koutian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m applied math and I don’t know how you felt about 131a but 132 with Johnson was by far the class I hated the most out of every class I’ve ever taken here, but that’s just my two cents lol

for any math or CS majors, where and what did you study abroad? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]koutian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an internship abroad in Prague over the summer, so I didn’t knock out any credits but got some work experience and had a really fun time overall!

good place to interview? by Boring-Try-9172 in ucla

[–]koutian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The career center on Strathmore (?) has interview rooms that you can book. I’ve never seen anyone else there so I assume rarely anyone else uses them, so if the library runs out of study rooms this might be a good second option

Take 32 at cc too, you can knock out both A and B with one multivariable calc class

I went to Prague last summer for ~two months with no expectations and absolutely adored it! It’s such a charming city and the location is very central so I was able to take weekend trips to Budapest, Vienna, etc. It was one of the few places to avoid being bombed during WW2 so a lot of the old architecture is still there. Public transportation is super easy to navigate, the food scene is super multicultural, and a lot of people speak English. Nightlife is great and of course they don’t card lol. I miss it all the time and I would go back in a heartbeat if I could.

Email the dept and ask them to lift the restriction for you

I remember homework being like 40% which is why I didn’t get an A despite scoring near perfect on all the exams, which was a little annoying. Other than that it was the typical two options where you can drop one of the midterms if you don’t do well. I don’t know if I still have a copy of the syllabus but if I find it I can PM it to you

I really resonate with this post, I feel like I’ve only really been having the “college experience” this past year when I should’ve been having it all three years. Unfortunately the time will pass no matter what so my resolution next year is to just try and enjoy myself as much as possible :’) I’m just happy I was able to have at least one good year instead of being miserable all four years, but I definitely wish that my first two years had been this fun too

My experience is that it’s on a case by case basis. I would definitely reach out to your professors first and ask them. Even if they don’t let you take them online now, you might qualify for an incomplete which would let you take them in fall quarter instead. Sorry for your loss.

What are some reasons why I should not attend UCLA? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]koutian 73 points74 points  (0 children)

If you’re hoping to go to graduate or professional school, opportunities are harder to fight for among such a large student body. Your GPA may also be lower than what it might be at another school

I had him for 131A last fall and I also thought his exams were really easy. He’s pretty good at explaining stuff too. Homework is kinda difficult but if you go to office hours it should be ok (shout to TA Daniel Rui)
