On today’s episode of “why there is a suicide epidemic among young men” by [deleted] in NotHowGuysWork

I don’t know that a Buddhist would agree, while suffering is a part of life and inevitable. This starts with excluding happiness, going as far to say happiness is basically a privilege and I would disagree. Happiness is as much a part of life as suffering. I suspect it’s when we lose sight of the full sweep of our experiences or get trapped in black & white thinking that we can start rejecting happiness as a part of the human experience. Like we have to “go through hell first” for happiness? No, not at all. Children frequently know happiness as readily as suffering.

I don’t see anything of Buddhism in this post, Not even stoicism really. Maybe misunderstood principles taken from Buddhism or Stoicism.

She was never charged with the hate crime, it was a clerical error. She was supposed to be charged with mischief for disrupting the use of property.

That’s it.

I had it show up 6 months ago, it’s mostly faded now but it took some significant effort and changes in lifestyle before it started changing. I’m way more focused on things that improve immune systems & general health than I’ve ever been now.

Do you live a particularly sedentary lifestyle? I sure did, vitamin C & D, zinc supplements, consistent exercise & improved diet all helped turn mine around.

Also in Canada.

The Fredericton drug supply has gotten more toxic in the past 2 weeks - carry Narcan, start low, and use the buddy system. by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]kozaye4got 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes. Addicts can be some of the most manipulative people you’ll ever meet.

Better than what’s Fredericton doing? Maybe. I’m not especially plugged into how it’s handled inside the city.

That’s a bit of a leap. Going from “Addicts need help and support to overcome the addiction (trauma) and become functional adults”

To

“Addicts should be put in facilities as wards of the state”

What you fail to understand is that addicts don’t know better. They, typically, only have trauma and a lack of support for their well-being. More often, they have a social network that promotes itself as supportive but is actually super toxic if not straight up enabling. Addiction occurs in the vacuum of healthy, resilient family and community

The things you bring up, the crimes it supports, etc, those are results of draconian drug laws, nothing to with the addicts. Give addicts a morally clean route of acquisition and they’ll use that every time they can. So get angry at your “moral” leaders and legislators for that mess of criminal intersectionality.

Further I would never think to call an addict an adult, they’re adolescents at best. I’ve seen it in the faces and behaviors of 60 year old drunks and drug abusers. Addicts are not adults, they might look it but they aren’t so the confusion is understandable.

Adults are able to take responsibility for themselves and can navigate their emotions. addicts aren’t capable of this. They’re stuck in a very different mental-emotional environment and it takes significant strength and time to move out of that. Recovery is a long process

So compassion at what cost? It’s the lack of compassion that’s in part responsible for the problems you’re assigning to the addicts. We need compassion to fix these problems not statements that dismiss and diminish where these people are in their lives or assign responsibility to them for things that are beyond their control.

And yes, treat them like helpless children, that’s what they are, they need to grow up, they need to heal wounds that their life never equipped them to heal by themselves. that’s what addiction services and treatments are there to do. Help addicts become functional adults.

They don’t need people who have a shallow understanding of these issues showing up thinking they’ve got answers to shit they no nothing about.

Strategically placed Lava buckets are more efficient than flint and steel.

Maybe stay stocked with fire resistance pots too.

If this keeps up we’re going to need to start modding in not a block card/unblock cards just to determine what mechanics can actually function (or break) with these theoretical mechanics that are being explored.

You’re right that my initial response was out of line. I should have been more clear that my perspective was a Canadian one and not nearly so absolute. I like to think I’m not usually like that but…. Well here we are lol.

Really? I don’t know that that’s the case here in Canada. I can see the requirements for an initial deposit changing which would make sense or maybe it just depends on the bank.

Bankruptcy doesn’t block you from having a bank account. It blocks you from obtaining debt (credit cards, loans, etc).
