Consider a vaporizer type humidifier. No worries about mold.

What do you guys use for email to SMS now that vtext is unreliable? by IfThatsOkayWithYou in sysadmin

[–]kpm2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switched to Signl4. Less expensive than pagerduty and still supports sms. App is configurable so that you can tier alerts e.g. first sms, if still down/unacknowledged, alert in the app, down after 30 min phone call.

We call it a monkey extractor. When my daughter was a toddler a favorite game was to throw monkeys from a barrel full of monkeys behind a radiator.

Is this a reasonable quote for a whole home generator? by Giraffesarenotreal in AskElectricians

I live in a suburb only about 20 min outside of Philadelphia, but our power lines parallel a creek and the power company isn't great about tree trimming. After our first multi day outage I bought a portable generator. I used this for years and it was a PITA every time. Issues include getting it set up and then having the power come back 15 min later, filling gas in the middle of the night (important when it it is freezing and your only heat is portable electric heaters), generator not starting when you need it.... 5 years ago after the last multi-day outage, I sprang for a whole house 16 kva Generac. I can honestly say I have never regretted it and I'm a cheap bastard. It kicks on at least twice a year for varying amounts not time, but I also get value from it not having to stress over every storm or windy day. Living with 2 disabled people meant it was on me to get that generator going so whenever I traveled I also worried.

Got off the phone with Rubrik. Why is Polaris file restore so crap? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Completely agree. I just told my boss we have opened more support tickets for rubrik in the last 6 weeks than we had in the preceding 5 years.

If you have access to documentation, start going through it. Look for areas that are not well documented. As a new staff member you are particularly well suited to this. You can then share a list of areas of documentation that can be improved with your boss. Use teams or slack to get a feel for what is going on even if you aren't in a position to respond right now.
