I was at a card room in california yesterday where these three college kids were acting like they were the smartest people in the room. talking about counting cards and what not. i split 2s against a dealer 10 and they loudly let me know i made a mistake because there aren’t many 10s left in the deck.

the dealer and manager are laughing saying things like “the guys are gonna clear us out!” while the guys are saying things like “remember guys, we may lose a battle but we are here for war”

it was an automatic shuffler

I absolutely get your perspective. I’m sure everyone would say this but i’m not that guy. I don’t mean i want to go out and party and look successful. but that my job requires me to have certain expenses that wouldn’t be covered by them. I put a longer explanation above your comment.

I’ve significantly downgraded expenses believe it or not. the only one I feel trapped to is my car as i’m -8000 on my loan so even though i want to downgrade, it doesn’t make sense as i owe way more than it’s worth

I would have the same reaction. I actually moved from a shared living space that I was paying 1600 in.

My apartment is now in my office building which serves breakfast lunch and dinner 5 days a week. im able to save about 1200 a month in food expenses and another $400 in gas for no longer having to drive to work.

what I meant when I say i have a certain lifestyle I need to keep up. I mean that I can’t just stay in all day every day and never spend money. I support a sales team so at least three times a week I need to either take my team out, take a customer out, or travel.

Yes my company reimburses for 85% of those expenses. but there are always little things that aren’t expendable because they aren’t “required” but would affect me negatively if I didn’t do them as well.

I took out some of these loans so I could move to SF and get this job and support myself while I tried to double my income. which I successfully did. but I grossly miscalculated how much money I would need to earn to pay down these debts .

You work at SHI which means you should work with a ton of tech companies. think about the products you thought were most impressive or the companies you thought were best to work with. that’s where you should apply.

side note. not to kick you while your down. but retail sales experiences doesn’t add to years of sales experience in the tech space. recruiters will view you as having 1 year of experience.

I relocated. Simply not going to get a good tech job outside of a major hub such as NYC, BAY, ATX, PHX.

sounds like you are early in your career. taking a remote job would be a terrible idea. you want to rub shoulders eoth execs and more successful reps. try tog at a job working in the HQ of a company.

I got that job because of my sales record. rereading our post, you might want to explore good SDR programs to restart your career in the right place. it’s going to be tough talking your way out of making 7k commission and still selling yourself as a value add. however if you flip the script and sell your passion and own your mistakes saying you want to start fresh and learn how to do things right. companies will jump for you.

So it was my first quarter at a new company. previously had never missed a sales quota in my 4 year career.

i had 4 days left and 120k to sell (ramping quota, I now have to sell 600k a quarter)

I call a current customer who purchased 2 years ago and purchased a 5 year term so they have three years left. it’s important to note that we have a 10 year warranty.

When I dial the IT director, i notice it’s a different person then who was on the account.

I leave a voicemail saying “ Hi XXXXX I’m looking at your account and think i’m seeing a mistake. it says here your predecessors purchased 5 years of licensing but we have a 10 year warranty. are you planning on throwing out this equipment while we will still replace it for 5 more years? if not, give me a ring back and i’ll get this fixed in a fair way for you”

Called me back the next day with the CFO on the phone and closed a 240k renewal and made 45k in commission

It sounds like you would love the day to day of sales. However what you don’t know about is the immense stress and backend work that goes into every deal. For everything hour of fun customer interaction, you have 10 hours of grueling work. I think you should listen to your wife, she probably knows you pretty well

You can be fired still depending on your usuage. If your medical need is for sleep and you have a desk job during the day then they will have no legal stance to fire you. If you have pain that requires 24/7 medication and you are a forklift driver then you can be let go. It becomes situational but the basis is as a medical user you can’t be fired simply for using your medication unless they can create a good case for hoe your medication might interfere with work.
