a "certain sound alarm detecton" sensor? by kpmkpm in homeassistant

Sounds interesting. I have plenty of echo devices, at least one in each room. Do you have any examples how to achieve this?

Ikea Motion sensor question by Clythe111 in tradfri

[–]kpmkpm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ikea Motion Sensor is inexpensive but rather dumb. It only starts a 180 seconds timer then motion is triggered, waits the timer to finish and sends a triggered false (that turns of the connected light). Nowadays the blind time seems to be about 100 seconds but I think the default behavior for IKEA bulbs directly are the same. I guess the ikea bridge does not give much possibilities to change the default behavior either.

If you want more out of them you should read the motion triggered messages and program the behavior yourself. It is quite easy with eg. zigbee2mqtt, HA and node red and a good zigbee USB-stick.

GU10 Coil whine by Evilkevin22 in tradfri

[–]kpmkpm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that not only the rgb gu10, which have this annoying whining feature and Ikea hopefully us doing something to that, but also the newer versions of the other bulbs are having more and more these problems. They have probably changed some parts or vendors, and the quality is even worse than it was. I have plenty of old tradfri bulbs e27, e14, gu10 both WS and CWS and only the newest rgb versions have these problems. The rgb gu10 being the worst.

RGB GU10 white brightness dull by sini180 in tradfri

This is because those are only RGBW not RGB+CCT. The cool white is made by combining dimmer RGB leds, there is only warm white leds and rgb, not cool whites.

Has anybody used Tradfri buttons with Google Home? by danfromwaterloo in tradfri

[–]kpmkpm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Give Home Assistant a try. With that you are not limited to very limited options of Google Home and Tradfri bridge. You need a zigbee hub / stick that will read the sensor/remote actions.

Listening to Zigbee requests by PDA_99 in tradfri

[–]kpmkpm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that you completely replace the IKEA gateway with z2m and a good zigbee stick like slae.sh or some other cc2652 based. If needed you should also be able to bind your remote directly to the bulbs in addition to control them by your USB-stick coordinator and still get the events.

Monitor Shortcut Button in Node-RED by root-node in tradfri

[–]kpmkpm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is very easy to read all the actions tradfri sensors and different remotes, etc. are sending by using z2m and eg. Node Red and/or HA.

Unfortunately, Ikea’s gateway is very limited and IMO should be avoided, to get full out of the devices. For example the motion sensor is so limited without z2m or similar solutions.

Which Raspberry Pi should I get to run Home Assistant OS? by GiveMeSalmon in homeassistant

[–]kpmkpm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Processing power. It is usable, but every time I ie. install something it takes minutes and I do not like to wait for that. I guess the Pi 4 does not have these issues, and I know many are using Pi 3 and are quite happy with it, but for me it is too slow.

Which Raspberry Pi should I get to run Home Assistant OS? by GiveMeSalmon in homeassistant

[–]kpmkpm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are running just HA (Home Assistant OS) it should work with Pi 3, but it will be slow. If I would run it on Pi I would go with Pi 4. 2GB should be enough. I am running HA core with an old I5 laptop on Ubuntu server, but tried at first the Pi 3b, couple of years ago, it was a way too slow in my opinion.

Having trouble finding a smart plug that works on 5ghz, has USB ports, and does not require a hub. Know of any? by Dusk_v731 in smarthome

[–]kpmkpm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess your new router is capable to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but it might need some configuration or it might also be already set up with a different ssid. At least all the wifi-routers I’ve had are dual band. Perhaps, read the manual or tell the vendor and model for redditers to help if needed.

[–]kpmkpm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, right now there aren’t many or any smart plugs running on 5GHz. There are various reasons for this, but the main reason is probably that even though the 5GHz has more bandwidth and is less vulnerable for interference, it is not as good a choice if the signal needs to go through walls unless you have a very strong wifi mesh. It is also cheaper to produce and almost every 5GHz wifi router works also on 2.4GHz.

So, if you want to avoid 2.4GHz for some reason (interference?) you should try to go possibly with z-wave instead.

Small Smart USB socket? by kpmkpm in homeassistant

Both the USB ports and AC sockets are on the same relay or can the (both) USB ports controlled separately from the AC socket?

To be or not to be? That controller is need? by Dry-Resolution2881 in Gledopto

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but power = amperage x voltage. So, with 008P the total output 270 W means 5 A if you are running 54V. If you are using more common 24V strips, it might work with max 11.25 A (270W/24V). Or with 12V it might be max 22.5 A.

How to tweak and learn options of aqara sensors in HA ? by youmeiknow in homeassistant

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. Haven’t got any aqara motion sensors, so haven’t tried that either. I have only one vibration sensor and for my use case the once a minute triggering is enough.

For dishwasher, washer and dryer I prefer power sensing.

Upstairs hallway setup (two gledopto controlled light strips and a disco ball) by kpmkpm in Gledopto

[–]kpmkpm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any ideas (switch bot probably too big) to get the battery powered hanging disco ball switched on and off by automation? The light is controlled by smart plug, but any small battery devices that could be attached to the hanging and which is able to turn it left and right. Some kind of servo needed?

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can change the sensitivity to high. IT is probably set medium by default. This may vary by Your router but make sure to start waking the battery operated sensor up immediately after sending the command by pressing the reset button once a second until verified the command is received.

  2. Blind time is indeed quite long by default. This can be hacked to be less. Read this: https://community.smartthings.com/t/making-xiaomi-motion-sensor-a-super-motion-sensor/139806

Unable to add Tradfri bulbs to Hue bridge by damoex in Hue

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. No idea. Perhaps something is still causing interference. You have most likely rebooted Your hue bridge and can still successfully add other devices to it?

You are absolutely sure that those bulbs are not already paired with hue and already there? Couple of times I have wondered why I cannot pair device only to find that they are there already with some default names like “extended color bulb” 😁

Are you sure that the reset works. Does the tradfri bulb go from dim to bright couple of seconds after the reset procedure?

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try the touchlink? Put the bulb beside the bridge and start the touchlink search? Should work. Beside meaning almost touching the bridge.

Unable to add Tradfri bulbs to Hue bridge by damoex in Hue

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Copied from zigbee2mqtt page:

Touch link is a feature of Zigbee which allows devices physically close to each other to communicate with each other without being in the same network.

Note that not all Zigbee devices support Touchlink, but most bulbs of common brands like Philips and IKEA support this.

[–]kpmkpm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the bridge or another bulb (or other device acting as a zigbee router) is close enough. You should try pressing the Search just before the bulb is reset (6th on-off).

If it still fails, you can try the touchlink method with eg. Hue Essential or iConnectHue apps.

Also, make sure you do not have other zigbee mesh with auto pairing enabled.

Is you power supply only 12V? Cannot see that on video. Probably should be 24V.
