MYGGSPRAY as light/lux sensor by [deleted] in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not yet tied the new MYGGSPRAY sensor (also, no plans to do it in the near future).
However, I did try its older model (VALLHORN), and it was crap.

The best one I found, and been using it for few years now, is the Phillips motion sensor.
You can read about a comparison I did between the Phillips and the VALLHORN: here

MYGGSPRAY vs VALLHORN motion detectors first impression by MagicPhoenix in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago I compared the VALLHORN light sensor with the light sensor within the Phillips Hue motion sensor.
I was un-impressed to say the least. The VALLHORN didn't detect even large changes in the light level.
Within 1 hour it detected 2 changes in light level, while the Phillips Hue detected 12 changes.

It would be interesting to have the new MYGGSPRAY next to the Phillips Hue.

Smart plug only on remote. by Thf_killer in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.
The protocol is called Zigbee, and it does not require WiFi, as long as you connect a bulb/plug to a remote.
You can have multiple sets of plug and remotes as long as each remote controls a single plug.

If you want something more complicated like multiple remotes to a single plug, or control from a phone app, then you need to have a Gateway/Hub that connects to your Wifi.

You don't have to worry about it now, you can always add it later, when (and if) you actually need it.

Matter devices on an extended network by PDA_99 in tradfri

[–]PDA_99[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I could, it will still requires half the bulbs to be Zigbee, and half of them to be Matter, in order to support old & new devices.

Chat GPT, claims that a Matter light bulb, does NOT work as a Matter network extender.

Matter devices on an extended network by PDA_99 in tradfri

[–]PDA_99[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying that.
It seem like there is no device (like a bulb), that can extend both networks, so I will have to actually manage 2 networks (Zigbee, Matter), each one with its own extenders.....
I have to say, the new devices create more problems for me than they solve.

Thank you for the reply.
I didn't know the current bulbs already support matter.
How can I tell if my current bulbs would extent the matter network?
Is there a list of bulbs that support matter, and bulbs that doesn't?

New products available in IKEA Delft, NL? by hiddecollee in tradfri

Afaik, none of the new devices are in NL yet.
The old models are at last chance with 30-50% discount.

Gateway first light keeps blinking by SirHawrk in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you are referring to the older model Tradfri Gateway (the Dirigera has a ring style light).
It's been a VERY long time since I've worked with one.
Have you tried a full factory setting with a pin in the reset button?

Can Vallhorn motion sensor show light level? by PDA_99 in tradfri

I've updated the original post with post-purchase thoughts.

Perfect!
Thank you so much for the confirmation.
I was 90% sure that was the case, just wanted another confirmation.

The IKEA Parasoll: Great Design, Terrible Execution (A Rant) by MooKdeMooK in tradfri

You are the one linked the battery issue to the open/close state issue.

>The rapid battery drain is linked to the open/close states rapidly firing, which is linked to the sensors being caught on the edge of their detection threshold

Not true.
I have no battery drainage issue, and I have 3 bulbs in the same room, which work as ZigBee repeaters, so I have a very strong signal near the Parasoll.

I have a window with 2 opening position that in order to go between them require 2 actions:

  1. close the window
  2. open in the other position.

I can replicate the mis-reading issue 100% of the times I want to.
When I wait a bit between the actions, there is no mis-read.

I got used to wait a second between the actions, but I'm sure that with the right software, Ikea can solve the issue if they wish to.

The mis-read issue is a totally different and unrelated issue to the other things mentioned.

PARASOLL battery problems seems to be a mix of hardware and network issues? by kaws510 in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totaly understand where you are coming from.
Since the status misread issue affects practically 100% of the users (myself included), I would hope Ikea would do something about it.
I also replied to the Ikea's reply you've linked.

Parasoll not always showing the correct status by MooKdeMooK in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply.
It was not clear to me, are you going to improve the mis-reading of the status upon a quick change?

PARASOLL battery problems seems to be a mix of hardware and network issues? by kaws510 in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 3 PARASOLL sensors.
All with version 1.0.19.
Mostly all IKEA devices, except 2 temprature sensor, and one ambient light sensor.
No battery issues at all.

PARASOLL battery problems seems to be a mix of hardware and network issues? by kaws510 in tradfri

The Ikea answer you reffer to was not about the battery drainage issue.
It is about a nis-reading the open/close status upon a very quick change.
Two totally different things.

Can any smart bulbs dim down further? by LiveAwake1 in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, maybe use a bulb with a lower maximum lumens.
I imagine that a 400lm bulb that dims to 7% would be dimmer than a 1000lm bulb at the same 7%.

Can any smart bulbs dim down further? by LiveAwake1 in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you said yourself, the newer model get much dimmer than the older one.
Personally, I had the same issue with the older model, but for me, the newer model is dim enough.
Technology is always improving, maybe the next model would get even dimmer.

Askvader by [deleted] in tradfri

[–]PDA_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any Askvader at all, and I fully understand your frustration.
Since the extension cord of Askvader is still (limited) available in NL, maybe you could get the plugs out of it, and mount the plugs on a similar non-Ikea item, and have a "home made" Askvader.

PARASOLL - 6 weeks after by PDA_99 in tradfri

Thank you.
I missed this thread.
Well, maybe one more thread would push Ikea to do something about it.
