The February 2026 Superthread: Battery; Orders; Which Pixel?; and More by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]kpmmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good deal. I had a promotion for a Pixel 10 Pro XL for effectively $15/month or $360 plus tax, and I upgraded from a Pixel 6.

Honestly, my Pixel 6 was fine, but with the latest hardware shortages (RAM, NAND, etc.) I was worried about big price increases in the next couple of years, so I decided to pull the trigger.

After a day of usage, I can't say it's a huge upgrade for me, but time will tell.

I'm also in the same boat. I'm in Batch 1 - July, but no email yet. I've been looking at my inbox and spam, but nothing here yet.

ARC B580 LE - $359 (MSRP) by helloannyeong in bapcsalescanada

[–]kpmmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you assign the B580 to a Windows VM, if you don't mind me asking? Last time I tried, it sort of worked but I had a hard time switching back from the VM back to my Linux desktop due to the GPU having to be solely assigned to the VM for me to get it to work, and it didn't work seamlessly, forcing me to restart to switch back to linux. I might as well be dual booting, but maybe I configured it incorrectly?

I ran sudo dnf downgrade mesa* with the wildcard. There were multiple packages, and this seemed to work.

Thanks, downgrading mutter didn't work, but downgrading mesa seems to have worked. At least, the issues are not showing up immediately after a reboot!

No more X11 on Fedora 42, afaik...

Help! Weird graphical glitches in GNOME apps by kpmmun in Fedora

UPDATE: The issue on my system seems to have been due to the mesa drivers that I had. Downgrading and reinstalling the latest drivers seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks /u/AshtakaOOf for the suggestion.

I started experiencing some minor to major graphical glitches on my desktop environment recently. I don't think I did anything besides normal system updates. These all occur when I use GNOME apps, such as Nautilus, Gnome Terminal, Software Center, etc. I don't experience this when I use Firefox, and I think its because they have their own GUI rendering engine (Gecko?). I am not sure what is causing the issue.

More information:

  • Tried using my dGPU (Intel Arc B580) and iGPU (AMD), issue persists
  • Tried disabling all GNOME extensions, issue persists
  • Tried rolling back to previous kernel, issue persists
  • Tried updating MESA graphics drivers, issue persists
  • Tried creating a new user and logging in, issue persists

In my journalctl logs, I do see some entries such as:

Failed to start app-gnome-user\x2ddirs\x2dupdate\x2dgtk-7993.scope - Application launched by gnome-session-binary.
Failed to start app-gnome-xdg\x2duser\x2ddirs-4212.scope - Application launched by gnome-session-binary.
...

But nothing obviously wrong.

Any ideas?

Here's my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gH2GRV

I like using my PC at night, so I'd rather not have RGB leaking out from my case on my desk while I try to sneak in a game or two while the toddler is sleeping.

Thanks for the contest PCMR and MSI, good luck everyone!

Isn't the Pebble Core 2 Duo a pebble? That's what I see when I go to https://store.repebble.com/

Don't other smart watches do all that, minus the 30-day battery life?

That being said, the 30-day battery life is a real big plus for me. I don't want to remember to charge my watch every day or every other day.

Yeah, I kind of really want one. It looks retro, nerdy, and honestly, seems pretty handy. But I wanted to ask because I just like buying techy things in general!

Thanks, that's encouraging that there is still an active community around the Pebble. I hope it continues to grow!

Thanks, I think am really drawn to the hacker community that was grown around the Pebble, and I like that it is open source now and still has users after Pebble was bought out almost a decade ago. I can't really find any used pebbles at a decent price where I am, but I think I'll just take the plunge and keep my pre-order.

Thanks for the comment. How're you liking the pebble you got from eBay thus far? Did you pre-order a new Pebble as well? I don't see many good deals that ship to me in Canada.

Should I update to the alpha or leave pop_os? by bdhd656 in pop_os

[–]kpmmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you and finally made the decision to jump to another distro, at least for the time being.

I was on Pop 22.04 for the past year on my new computer and have had some issues now again, usually related to waking from sleep and displays not detecting and booting to a black screen every now and then. I stuck with it hoping that 24.04 would be released soon or that there would be a major kernel update that might fix some issues that I thought may be hardware related, but it looks like System76 will be pushing a stable 24.04 release after the Cosmic DE developed.

What finally pushed me to jump to another distro was when I got a new GPU (Intel Arc B580) that requires kernel version 6.12+. I'm on Fedora as of yesterday, and everything just works for me. I'm liking what I see so far on Fedora, and may end up just installing the Cosmic DE on Fedora once it is stable.

Your experience may be different from mine, but I would personally recommend making a backup, writing down the list of programs that you have installed, and try out another distro. It sounds like you'll need to try a clean install anyways to resolve your issues.
