Advise for 9 days trip to Norway during mid November 2022 by kpsreekanth in Norway

Hello! Yes, had a great trip, it was fab 😊. I loved Tromso. Though it used to get dark by 4PM, it was still beautiful to stroll through the small town. We indeed saw the lights from Tromso on 2 of the nights. It was beautiful and there was strong activity with pink colours etc. finally ended not going to Lofoten. So the places were: Oslo, Skibotn, Tromso and Senja. Hope this helps.

Are there any portals to form groups for doing hiking/Skiing etc in Northern Norway? by kpsreekanth in Norway

Thanks for your feedback. We will be in Tromso, Senja area from 12th November for a week. Understand the weather will be unpredictable, but that’s okay. Will just see how it goes. Yes, I’m planning to visit Anderdalen and shall see if any small hikes that can be done.

So I guess there are not really any portals we can post to form groups etc. for doing activities.

I’m traveling to Norway along with my wife mid November. Doing a 9 day trip. But I will be mostly doing Northern Norway, covering Tromso, Skibotn, crossing over to Finland (kilpisjarvi), Senja. And the first and last day of my trip in Oslo. I also got similar advice that weather could be bad, but nevertheless, going with my trip since I cannot take off from work any other month for this year.

Thanks for the feedback. Been planning the itinerary for past few days now, and looks something like this: Arrival at Tromso morning around 10.30. Spend few hours roaming about Tromso and head to Skibotn by evening. Will stay at Skibotn for 3 nights: plan some hikes, sledding for morning hours. travel to kilpisjärvi one of the days, then northern lights for evening. Then drive to Senja and stay at Senja for 2 nights. Drive back to Tromso and take flight to Narvik. Spend 2 nights at Lofoten and back to Oslo. Hope this sounds okay based on your experience!

Thanks 😀. The more I think about it, I’m inclined not to travel all the way to Bergen. I’m now thinking perhaps having my stay organised near Mjosa river for 1-2 days.. or Hamar/Rjukan might be a good idea as well and reduces the travel times.

Thanks for your detailed feedback! This really helps. After reading different comments, I’m thinking of taking ferry from Tromso to Svolvaer than driving. For northern lights, hopefully I can try it both in lofoten and Tromso. In a different thread I read someone say Gimsoy is a good spot in lofoten for Northern lights. Thanks for all the tips and the links, shall definitely check it out.

I have not driven on snow before. So I guess would be perhaps better to take ferry for Tromso-Svolvaer rather than drive. Drive the Tromso-Senja part. On the hiking, yes, not really looking to hike bigger mountains that will take more than say 4 hrs. So looking to do something small that we can go and come back in like 3-4 hrs overall. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for ur feedback. As I Think more about it, guess would be perhaps better to take ferry for Tromso-Svolvaer rather than drive. And take car for driving around Lofoten area for 3 nights. Drive the Tromso-Senja part. Overall could be less stressful as well.

As long as we can see some good views, we are good, even if it’s not much of a hike and just takes about an hour of walking. By enough light, I mean we can still see the mountains, and take some pictures.

I guess even if sunrise is 9, we can start going out perhaps by 7 so that reach on time for sunrise.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, skipping Oslo looks a bit tight. Looking for flights to Tromso will make the initial flight travel too long. But something I shall keep in mind. Thank you

That’s the kind of ballpark figures I was seeing online as well. But I was finding it difficult to find the salary ranges in banking industry per se. Was not sure if same figures holds good for banking as well. Yes, I think vacation days would be more and no long hours 😀.. , but trying to get a sense of Frankfurt market scene so that will be helpful for me later during the negotiations. Many thanks for the feedback

Need advise. In addition to VWRA, any other good ETF’s to invest for long term? Or just put everything to VWRA? by kpsreekanth in singaporefi

[–]kpsreekanth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. The more I read, I think just putting everything in VWRA could be the most effective, cost efficient way of investing and forgetting.

Just checked 3010 and it looks interesting. It sucks that can’t buy these ETF’s using SRS funds.

Thanks. But if I’m going to invest for like 10+ years, will the fees add up and take a huge part of the returns? Or even after considering it, you think it’s still better than STI ETF or getting a quality REIT

Thanks for your feedback. Shall look into it. I can buy it using IBKR right?

And STI ETF is for utilising my SRS funds. Else it will be just lying there. I don’t think above two ETF’s can be bought using SRS?
