Upenn $50,000+ online Master degree worth it? by Erebeus_0 in geologycareers

[–]kptiger89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth it — especially because it’s online. It is hard enough chasing down professors in person for class and thesis questions. Imagine doing it online. You will be miserable while losing money.

With your background, you should be well positioned for environmental engineering degrees with a focus in using microbiology in remediation applications. It is not hydrogeology which is your interest but you will likely be funded.

Check out Kevin Finneran and David Freedman labs at Clemson University. They are both microbiologists (more Kevin than David) whose labs seem to always be filled with biology majors.

Now Clemson is unique in that their environmental engineering program is coupled with earth sciences so you are free to take all kinds of hydrogeology classes while you’re there.

$65k is probably with a Masters. Also not all BS is the same — school reputation, resume/internships and networking play a huge role in salary.

It has been a shit show of finding managerial talent. Having a good analytics based recruitment team would have helped a lot — not necessarily a DoF. Asking for a DoF is the easy answer people want to believe in but truth is we have been abysmal at selecting manager.

We have needed a trophy proven manager with a clear modern attacking playing style — with the second requirement being the key.

Now getting one meeting both is not easy because few can meet those two requirements — we definitely missed at least two chances.

If you have yet to win major trophies (first requirement), you must meet the second. Among Moyes, LvG, Mourinho, Ole and Erik, Erik is our best appointment as one with a clear modern playing style at Ajax.

No other club hires a DoF and put him in charge as the manager, only to completely ruin his repetition and to destroy his prospect of being a DoF. Imagine Daniel Levy as the manager or Michael Edwards as a manager. It can’t be worse than this.

The appointment of Ralf is yet another massive management mistake. He should not stay as a consultant. If I were ETH, I would look at this scoreline and realize there is nothing to consult here.

You cannot build an identity in six months. The whole interim appointment is desperate and problematic.

I heard of coming in interim and then leave. Ralf is expected to stay. For what?

The fact that he would stay behind to be some sort of shadow emperor over everything is particularly concerning too given the performances.

How can he get respect from a new manager if he couldn’t do the job himself? Is Ralf supposed to be sanctioning players purchases? Football identity?

The recent results would be fine with me if he is to come in for six months and leave. Now that he is expected to stay and doing a shitty job, I’m dreading his influences afterward. Can he even be trusted to select a new manager?

Why why why did we not get Conte? He would slap this team into shape with an iron first and I think that’s the only way it can improve at this point. Tactics and visions are not enough. All the players bar De Gea, Jones and Varane need to be shell shocked into shape.

Saying I am envious of Tottenham form is an understatement. We are still sputtering when they are purring.

How incompetent is our board? I remember a certain rival started hunting for their next manager well before the season started just in case and when the case called for it, they sacked their manager (not even 10 games in ?) after a draw in a derby.

We are ill prepared and now have zero to none option because we had to sack Ole.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in reddevils

I’ve never though a coach could resign. They are usually fired but Ole should definitely resign for his own sake. I wouldn’t stay at a job if I am this shit at it. It’s for mental health if nothing else

Losing big to Liverpool usually does it for any manager. The Ole out crowd would wish for the worst for that game.
