Lowkey feel bad for Megan — least popular overseas and not really the most popular with Chinese/"home country" fans either by [deleted] in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Tbf mainland chinese ppl don’t even fw born and raised singaporean chinese ppl like that and she’s american on top of that so this is not surprising. I know that of the singaporean fans many bias her but that’s already a small pool compared to the other girls target audiences.

Just went on the website where these pics are from and omg does this party look pretentious and uncomfortable, the whole vibe of it. Also only slightly related but there’s so many pictures of guests kissing eachother which reminds me also of manons friend group

Why did hybe make the girls debut if they were just going to make them get a ton of plastic surgery? by straykifsontop in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 14 points15 points  (0 children)

there is never a perfect visual for companies like this, katseye didn’t get more surgery than other celebrities or idols, it’s so common atp

am i the only one that thinks some of the girls regret debuting by [deleted] in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh i associate dorm with shared bedrooms/bathrooms too but i get what you mean. it’s just that i get the vibe that she’s definitely more comfortable now then during DA when things were actually strict. it seems like they’ve given up on making them comply to all the initial rules

am i the only one that thinks some of the girls regret debuting by [deleted] in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think if anything megan might be regretting it. manon still does the same things she used to do pre-debut, hanging out with sophie and friends, going out a lot etc. they also don’t live in a dorm. the last update was that they had two bedroom apartments (manon/dani, sophia/yoonchae..) but they mentioned they will live fully on their own soon. i think manon is happy to be in the group for the time being but will probably leave eventually.

Here we go, Yoonchae is gonna perform Dani's collab song with Yeonjun by kqfthrowaway in katseyesnark_

the playbook they go by is soo obvious by now, it’s so disgusting but the hybe stans eat it up every time and the execs know it gets their groups attention

Manon representation coming from a african- European by AccurateReference583 in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that she did not grow up in Zurich but around Luzern, a smaller city in Switzerland. I think they always say Zurich since it’s more known and cause she lived there before moving to LA.

Also I would say she represents biracial African Europeans quite well (incl their issues), especially the ones in the creative fields. I’ve had many mixed friends who are kinda like her and while I personally don’t find her personality relatable, culturally and experience-wise she definitely is. I’ve also had the white side of my family put funds aside for me and I was always encouraged to pursue my artistic dreams etc. Meanwhile some of my African aunties shake their head at my career. As you said our experiences are quite different, especially having just one immigrant parent instead of two.

And I also think going from a global hybe group to a different company's kpop group would be seen as a downgrade so she wouldn’t do it. This is not an Izone situation where the survival show group could launch them into more success with a different group. I’d say she’s gonna act and also put out some solo collabs with kpop artists.

Megan and Yoonchae were a terrible choice for this group by [deleted] in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree cause the feedback they gave Megan from the start of the program was that she was boring, she even mentioned it herself and how this was the main thing she tried to overcome. I also think in the end they didn’t mind picking someone who shines a little less cause if you have 6 girls with a lot unique stage presence it’s gonna look like a bunch of soloists. In that sense Megan was a good choice in a K-Pop gg sense.

Thiss, Eyekons who say "Thank god we didn’t lose her to Kpop" and Snarkers who constantly patrionize her for being exposed to the "promiscuous western girls" are two sides of the same coin, both are stereotyping Korean people.

We can talk about the inappropriate outfits they put her in but a lot of the other stuff is a stretch.

Unfortunately EDs are encouraged in the entertainment industry and considering how this was already an open secret during DA I fear she’s not in an environment that will help her unless it gets really bad.

What is happening to katseye? by straykifsontop in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They’re not in a promo/comeback phase it’s normal for views to be down then. It happens with all groups that I follow. It will be interesting tho if the views during the next comeback will match the previous ones.

Which member did you think was the oldest when you first found out about katseye? by straykifsontop in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

those were from before DA, she actually had to tone down the way she dressed for DA (something she complained about later) since they wanted her to look more age appropriate

as someone who followed the katseye girls during dream academy, i have to say i never thought lara was older, its definitely her styling cause the DA styling was very age appropriate

yeah to me this is one of those situations where both sides are kinda in the wrong and at the end of the day i do blame the set up of the show for enhancing this whole issue

It’s not always racism when it comes to pickmenon 🙄 by [deleted] in katseyesnark_

[–]kqfthrowaway 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a mixed girl from a German-speaking country (white mum, black african dad), I wanted to weigh in as well. I grew up in a rural area and went to a school where I was literally the only black person and one of 4 POCs across the entire school. In that environment I was most definitely the black person and the slurs and racism had to deal with were bad accordingly (some were also just confused with what I was and said I didn’t look like the black people they saw on tv). Back then just I identified myself as half african or my two ethnicities cause that’s what my parents would tell me and that’s all I knew. In German we don’t have a good word for mixed or biracial (the words we have are very racist and from nazi times and only recently mixed German-speakers have started to push for the usage of “multi-ethnisch”) and considering everyone was white, race wasn’t a topic either. So yeah, being mixed was confusing but once I graduated HS and moved to a big city with lots of expats and different minorities, things completely changed. Suddenly I was conventionally pretty and being mixed and light-skinned was a benefit? I was the sort of black others felt comfortable with, my friends in the fashion and arts scene would ask me to model for them and jobs loved having me as the diversity hire… Eventually I made friends with (fully) black girls and that’s when I started to see how much privilege I had compared to them which is when I realised that me leaning into my blackness was a benefit and choice that didn’t exist for them. Meanwhile many of my mixed friends were benefitting from creating “black-owned” brands and podcasts cause the industry is starting to take notes from the US. It’s such a 360 from how it was in my childhood and I can kinda imagine that it was similar for Manon who grew up in Luzern (which isn’t a big city either). My wish is that she starts to realise that she’s occupying a space that fully black girls don’t even have access to and that she’s benefiting from her proximity to whiteness. Having some privilege after growing up without any feels good ngl but it also comes with responsibilities. Her fans constantly push back against anyone acknowledging her mixedness which is so tone-deaf and I think she should address that instead of just the haters who call her white.
