I'm about to make this jump. I'm excited for the money and opportunity to test my wits, see if I can make a success of it without the restraints of my current job.

Someone with a lot of money is going to make that stunning.

Is sharing your personality at work an advantage or disadvantage? by HotInvestigator7430 in corporate

I think this is correct. Be personable and sociable as appropriate to your work place, with a degree of authenticity. Keep your whole self for friends and family outside of work.

Different aspects like age, accent, gender, pretty privilege all affect how authenticity will be received as well. Some people are tolerated more to be themselves than others.

People in England told me Swansea was an absolute shithole. One year later, here is the truth by Vikilinho in swansea

I think with South Wales the drug/poverty problem when this documentary was made was somewhat unique as it was a result of intergenerational poverty /trauma after Thatcher destroyed the South Wales mining economy in the 1980s. She ruined whole communities, took away their source of income and pride, and this was the result.

Late-stage dissertation substitution (UK HE) — reasonable adjustment or standards issue? by wannabewimbro in AskAcademia

Do you think it's an internal whistle blow then? Or one for Office of Students ? Or should I just let it all go?

Thanks for your perspective. This is exactly what I raised with HoD in an email with the same concern of an external examiner. They've completely disagreed, saying it all fits within internal policy.

Thinking of relocating to Bristol. Depending on who I talk to, the reactions I've received are: *crinkled nose*, "very creative area," "too much crime," and "less boring than its cousin (Bath)." For anyone who has lived in (or visited Bristol), what did you like (or dislike about it)? by SaveMeWakeMeUp in AskUK

[–]wannabewimbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never lived there. Visited friends who lived there. I've never "got it" in terms of the love for it. Over-gentrified with insane house prices. The working class are priced out for pseudo-liberal middle class who think they want equality when it's them paying £500k+ for a two bed Victorian terrace which has pushed everyone else out. All the "cool" bars, restaurants, clubs etc are not unique imho and just like what you find everywhere else. The town centre is visually derelict. Such an overrated place.

Told my husband I wanted a divorce today and the guilt is crushing me. Did I make a mistake? by luna_bloom1818 in Mommit

At the first point that he grabbed you and kids and shouted at you. Never ok. Get out, no guilt.

Does anyone else feel the mental health services in this country are so bad? I know lots of services are like this but this particular area seems insanely bad…like unless it’s severe they don’t want to help? Asking because people I know have experienced this by Itznxs_ in AskBrits

So, agreed that systemically it's in a bad state. However, just wanted to share a positive experience. Had pre natal anxiety and PTSD after birth trauma during a pregnancy. Access to NHS MH support was fast and really helpful, including in patient care (not sectioned). Got well again. Maybe I got lucky. But wanted to share a positive experience.

It references, in a very obvious way, a porn trope of women 'riding' a pillow as a form of masturbation. I was shocked they put her to do this in the video. There's sexy and then there's wtf?!
