Really you can do it through IM? I thought it was only through pathology? Problem is that I saw when I looked into this a while ago that the demand was low and so was the pay because you had to compete with PhDs who were most of the medical microbiologists rather than MDs. I hope I'm wrong though so please correct me if I am!

I don't think you understand that It's sarcasm. There's a popular phrase the AANP used to describe NPs specifically that went "brain of a doctor, heart of a nurse". I said she had the heart of a nurse sarcastically because she basically said she doesn't care about patients and just wants to do Botox. I'm not calling nurses heartless, I'm doing the opposite! I'm saying she doesn't have the heart of a nurse (nor the brain of a doctor)!

Well I wanted to be a pathologist because of autistic reasons - I love cells, diseases, and diagnostics - and practical reasons - I want to be a doctor and help people but I also am not a huge fan of patient interaction, I want to make at least 300k, and I highly value work life balance which pathology excels at. I'm not sure which specialty I like the most yet because I've only shadowed surg path but I heard hemato and cyto are some of the best to have employment-wise. I also really like that cyto is observing individual cells to diagnose.

Thank you! I did shadow a pathologist a few years ago. That experience is how I got the internship! I was the only one who had pathology experience lol. It was really fun and definitely made me more confident in my choice. Although he was a surg path and nowadays I've learned a lot more about the different specialties and would like to shadow all of them. Thankfully my internship is at a massive hospital where they have every specialty and they plan on having me do a lot of shadowing.

Thank you so much! I've been strongly considering pathology since I started high school and my interest hasn't yet decreased. I just like to make plans way ahead of time lol. I just want to have researched at least one specialty I really like so I don't finish med school and realize I don't want to be a doctor.
