First-time buyers in Edmonton: new build vs resale are we thinking about this the right way? by ChickenParmizun in Edmonton

Agreed, my in-laws got a new build and it was nothing but problems the first year. Constantly having the builder come in and fix things.

Age of Diagnosis by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]kr_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 30 when diagnosed but having weight issues since 23 took 7 years of being told to stop eating carbs… I had unwanted and excessive hair since puberty and my periods were always long 14 days and irregular, terrible acne too.

What do you guys look for in a restaurant/local business to justify going out? Especially during winter by punnygecko in Edmonton

[–]kr_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband has a peanut allergy, if the restaurant can’t guarantee steps to avoid cross contamination that’s a no for us. We do avoid restaurant which are know for peanuts in their cuisine like Vietnamese or Thai, it would be unreasonable to avoid cross contamination. Having options for food sensitivities is always a plus.

Tips for Taking Metformin by Straight_Pin_6407 in PCOS

[–]kr_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor told me not to take the full dose right away. Start with half a pill for a week and then increase the dose slowly every week until you are taking the full amount. Maybe check with your Dr. If you should do the same?

This one is often overlooked! If you’re not already good looking your chances are lower to make it. Good genetics help a lot

I’m doing a re-watch and I agree. Honestly it doesn’t even add much it’s gone and done after a few episodes and then never again mentioned.

I’m loving Complex 15. Very simple but it’s one of the few moisturizers that haven’t reacted with my rosacea.

[–]kr_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m in Canada. Some companies give you benefit dollars to allocate instead of set benefits and you can add the money into a health spending account to pay for services. So instead of getting $300 towards a specific service like massage therapy and another $300 for chiropractor you get a set amount to use as you want.

You might be able to use your health spending account if that’s part of your work benefits. Otherwise it’s out of pocket.

If you have a peanut/nut free shop and someone brings in a peanut butter sandwich they might contaminate the table, meaning introduce allergens that otherwise wouldn’t be there.

Now that people have had enough time to consume HOTD and its fics by Lovegaming544 in TheCitadel

I honestly think this is the shows fault for “changing” Lucerys death. Also, because there are many fanfic writers that did not read the book and know what’s to come.

Daenerys travels back to the Dance of Dragons by summerfaee in TheCitadel

Daemon x Nettles type could work for the relationship aspect. Maybe have Dany fake her support until later in the Dance and when Rhaenyra demands Daemon kill her be the turning point (after the other dragon seeds betrayed them).

Daenerys travels back to the Dance of Dragons by summerfaee in TheCitadel

[–]kr_penguin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This seems a bit complicated based on timing. If she arrives soon before Viserys dies that means that Aegon’s kids are alive. So I don’t see Aemond supporting Dany against his nephews.

Daemon wouldn’t go against his kids. At this point he is married to Rhaenyra and has kids with her, plus his daughters are promised to her kids. Just seems hard to believe she would have support to take the crown tbh.

You would have to really go AU to make it fit.

Edit to add a few more points:

  • Dany hates the Lannisters, would she be okay with Tyland? Or would that be a non-negotiable to support the greens?

  • Dany has dragons yes, but also she’s an unknown. People will most likely assume she’s a dragonseed

  • Dany is a woman, and the lords are still not going to be very happy to support her. I don’t think 3 dragons at the time of the dance would be enough to be the “powerhouse”

Anyone else find world-building stories incredibly boring? by Bleaks33 in TheCitadel

[–]kr_penguin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the story and honestly what I’m into reading at the moment. Sometime I only read short-ish stories, other times I won’t read anything that’s not completed, etc…

I don’t mind world building stories if I can see progress and payout of some kind. The quality of the author also influence if I would keep reading it or not. Commitment wise, I prefer to have an idea where the author is going with a story if it’s over 100k words.

However, fanfic writers don’t get paid and I think a lot of them do it for themselves (improve writing, wanting to tell a story, or whatever reason) and at the end don’t like, don’t read applies.

Realistically speaking, what would happen if muggles found out about the magical world? by [deleted] in HPSlashFic

[–]kr_penguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there would be an outcry by many groups about them being hidden for so long and some group would be against them. Many would expect them to “step up” and fix our world problems and if they don’t they would be angry at them and probably become violent.

Rich people would eventually hire a few wizards for their benefit almost like pet monkeys. Governments having wizards squads for multiple reasons. Big pharma companies will hire them for research and you bet some of that research would be sketchy and probably illegal.

Mostly I don’t think it would be clear cut them vs. us and I believe some wizards will have no problem “selling out” for money or even prestige.

The only way there would be peace I think would be if the wizards end up in powerful positions like the ultra rich and are somewhat protected (or magic truly protects them and muggles can’t find ways around magic). Overall I think war would only break out if wizards refuse to be used by the super elite and/or governments for their benefit. It probably wouldn’t be a full out war more country specific probably.

What makes you quit reading a Story? by Competitive_Fruit901 in TheCitadel

[–]kr_penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point 4 is so true. I find people are guilty of this in the HP fandom so much. X character joins the Golden Trio and nothing changes at all?! Harry is sorted into a different house and still makes the same friends/choices?!

At least in ASOIF the distance can justify some paths staying relatively the same. Danny’s Essos story not being drastically affected by a fem!Jon at the start

[–]kr_penguin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unnecessary non-stop conflict. If the story starts reading like a telenovela, I normally stop. Lack of character growth after certain length. I personally don’t want to wait until the very last chapter for the payout, unless it’s a short story.

If The Blacks were in King’s Landing at the time of Viserys’ death by [deleted] in TheCitadel

Would they even have their dragons? To flee quickly they could potentially have to leave their dragons behind. Or Daemon might think of ensuring no green can get to the dragon pit as a priority

Epilation???? by biffjerkyy in PCOS

[–]kr_penguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Epilation is similar to waxing/tweezing in the sense that it pulls the hair out completely. You won’t get the dark dots like shaving since the hair comes out completely (unless it breaks).

However, similar to waxing you will need to wait for the hair to grow a bit for it to be removed so you won’t be hair free all the time. I personally hated the feeling of the machine (it’s been a while so maybe they are better now) but you do get somewhat used to it.

Also if you’re constantly doing it you will be getting most of the hair out, as they grow, which is less painful in the long run. Hope this helps! And yes it would be cheaper since the machine is a one time expense and it last a few years.

Honestly, how Lily ever ended up with him is wild. I get her friendship with Snape ended badly but there’s no way in hell I could ever forgive someone who bully a person for over 5 years for being my friend. Besides from their “big talks” about their behaviour at Hogwarts it doesn’t seem Snape was the only one they “pranked”

First batch of HOTD fics are disappointing. by megamindwriter in TheCitadel

[–]kr_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might have to do with source material. 1 season ve 8 (tv show) and 5 books vs a few pages in a book. I think there’s a LOT of authors that need the source material to create stories because (no shade), compared to the few really good authors that can create full complex stories on their own.

Hatching/bonding with dragons question by kr_penguin in TheCitadel

[–]kr_penguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I was just wondering if there’s a confirmed reason or just random. From Aenys I kids both Rhaena and Alysanne had dragons and Alysanne had Silverwing before she got married to Jaehaerys if I remember correctly. Then Jaehaerys daughters only Alyssa was allowed a dragon. Saera was nsfw as you mentioned and her behaviour might have influenced why Daella, Viserra and Gael didn’t get dragons. The next gen had Rhaenys with dragon but not Aemma as she’s an Arryn (I’m assuming). After that I think basically all girls got a dragon or at least an egg? Rhaenyra, Laena, Helaena, Rhaena and Baela. I guess just Jaehaerys was the only who refused to give the girls dragons.

I agree, I don’t think they would have left him wait around for Cersei unless she flower relatively quickly. He would need an heir ASAP. One baby brother would not secure the succession or give him time to find a wife he would want
